Anyone started to buy Christmas presents yet?

I'm very excited for Christmas this year and have started to pick up presents for my dd (2.8)

Nothing that will date and nothing character branded as she changes her mind like the wind.

Mainly board games, play doh, wooden toys and jigsaw puzzles at the minute.

My dh thinks I'm mad for starting this early (normally July) has any one else started?

Oh I get it now re advent calendars, I was thinking about the ones you hang on your wall for the whole year!
I haven't started yet, but I did pick up some reduced Minecraft figures in Sainsbury's yesterday. I put them back though as Dd is so fickle she probably won't be in to them come Christmas!!

FoofFighter · 16/05/2017 17:16

Yes but only as I bought stuff last Xmas that ended up being too old for her, so it'll be for her birthday or Xmas as some was season stuff

Whoops, scuse the double post, stupid phone.

PutThatPomBearBack · 16/05/2017 17:19

I haven't thought about what's for dinner tonight, let alone Christmas!Shock

Shutupanddance1 · 16/05/2017 17:22

I've only a 10 month old in the house but my mum always said to buy one good present every month and leave it under the bed. So far we have 2 playmobil sets (reduced in Argos), 1 tea cup set and 1 Christmas book. It'll just be some nice bits to have wrapped for Christmas (not that she needs much) and we won't be panicking nearer the time. I've obviously to go get something for this month Smile

imip · 16/05/2017 17:24

I have 4 primary aged dds. I've spied some nice unicorn onsies in m&s, so I hope to buy 4 in the sales in July. That is when my Christmas shopping will start!

MusicToMyEars800 · 16/05/2017 17:27

Not yet, but I will make a start in July, I'm normally really bad and leave things til last minute December

MusicToMyEars800 · 16/05/2017 17:29

Nicpem1982 · 16/05/2017 17:29

I worked in a department store for years. People would bring back unwanted gifts from Boxing Day. Stuff would get marked down by anything up to 70%. If it was something that would make a good gift for someone the following Christmas I'd put it to one side and buy it during my break or end of shift. It was usually stuff I'd end up buying anyway but I had a massive discount plus staff discount ontop.

I did get caught out one year having stashed stuff and forgotten what I'd bought and ended up spending 3x the amount I normally would have. Blush The following year I started making lists then a couple of years later moved onto spreadsheets.

Didn't start as early this year though as we knew we were moving so didn't want extra stuff to cart around. We've moved now so shall start shortly!

DrWhooves · 16/05/2017 17:35

I have. I've got pokemon monopoly and a monster high doll that was cheap in b&m stashed in a cupboard already. My DC is a December birthday too so I pick bargains up through the year when I see them. She wants a Nintendo ds so I'm keeping an eye out for deals on those.

Whileweareonthesubject · 16/05/2017 17:36

Yes, if I see something I think someone would like, at a reasonable price, I buy it. I've had so many times when I've seen something and made a mental note to return later and then have either not retired or the products have sold out. So now I buy when I see something. I've got several gifts for this year already, including my sister , dm, MIL, dils and a couple of other relatives. I tend to buy a household item for us and dil and although I haven't bought it yet, I know exactly what I'm buying - just waiting for it to go on offer. We have a lot of winter birthdays in the family, so I like to buy something 'summery'for those people if I can. I'm a winter birthday and there are only so many scarf and glove sets I need!

FuglyBitch · 16/05/2017 17:36

Yep, I saw a sale at Argos on dressing up clothes so got some

Nicpem1982 · 16/05/2017 17:40

I picked up my dn pair in pairs, a spelling game from the entertainer for 3.00 reduced from 15.00 she'll love it and my bil is chuffed

Why is everyone being so
Pissy? This is the Christmas board...

MarklahMarklah · 16/05/2017 18:42

Just a couple of stocking fillers. I tend to pick up bits through the year (I sometimes forget I've got them) as it saves me spending loads in one go at the end of the year when funds are tight.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/05/2017 18:51

I haven't but I won't rule it out if I see something I like.

I do buy crockery/cutlery type things when I see them, especially in HomeSense / TKMaxx because I never will see them again (and they start Christmas as soon as Hallowe'en is over)

My DD is a June birthday DS is December, both teenagers.
I ask them for lists nearer the time but if I see something I know they'd like and I'm pretty sure they won't buy for themselves then yes.

And , Christmas starts in July - QVC Christmas in July Xmas Grin

Nicpem1982 · 16/05/2017 18:53

I'm going to start decanting the presents into storage boxes soon

nellifurtardo · 16/05/2017 18:57

I've started, I always start in the Christmas sales and buy bits as and when I see them through out the year, it helps me budget better, also I'm self employed and my busiest time of year is at Christmas so I really haven't got time to shop then. I tend to buy stuff that I know will still be wanted such as craft materials, books, lego board games and main presents closer to the season. I can't wait for Christmas this year.

YoloSwaggins · 16/05/2017 19:00

What?! I start on the 23rd December!

weddingopinionsplease · 16/05/2017 19:02

I buy from now because I have 2DC - 1 is an October birthday, 1 is a November birthday and then Christmas. Plus all my nephews are November and December birthdays! If I left it I'd be so skint! Nothing wrong with planning ahead OP Smile
I tend to buy them 1 or 2 things each per month from now.

Bumbumtaloo · 16/05/2017 19:04

Yep started in March which is quite late for me. We only have 2 DD's but one of them has her birthday just after Christmas so I get her birthday presents too.

I also have chronic illnesses and my DH is my carer so money is tight and shopping is online.

I have one of my DD's advent calendars - a trolls one that was massively reduced.

We are lucky that grandparents etc ask me what to get so we don't get duplicates.

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 16/05/2017 19:07

Yep I have too. They are also wrapped and labelled. Spreadsheet updated whenever a new one is brought so I can keep track of everything.

Not normally this organised but my Dd is 2 on the 22 December and I'm expecting dc 2 the beginning of November so money and time will be in short supply. I don't want to be running around last minute if I can help it.

Unicorn81 · 16/05/2017 19:07

Not mad i shop boxing day sales for the following year, why pay full price? Thats the daft thing imho
