As soon as you get them, or last thing on Christmas Eve? or somewhere in between?

Me and all of my girls make a night of it at home. We wrap, laugh, have a wee drink and a nice dinner - last night it was a Sushi takeaway.

Somewhere in the middle. I did the majority last week. I'm doing the stocking stuff tonight then DHs presents tomorrow or Friday then I'm done.

irregularegular · 21/12/2016 15:44

I'm starting today. Hopefully will be mostly today and tomorrow and I am busy the evening of the 23rd and family arrive on the 24th. I used to to a lot on Xmas Eve but try to avoid that now and let Xmas Eve be more relaxed - plus I cook Christmas dinner these days so there is enough to do.

I would have quite liked to start a little earlier but this fine. Couldn't do it as I go. Everything arrives in dribs and drabs so it would be terrribly inefficient. Plus I quite like wrapping - it's nice and Christmassy - starting too early would just be wrong. Whereas as I get older I've gone off the shopping bit and quite like to have it done pretty early. I don't buy a massive amount so two or three sessions is perfectly manageable.

Lookinatu · 21/12/2016 15:48

Done mine 2 weeks ago I wouldn't recommend it though as I have been twitching since.

oobedobe · 21/12/2016 20:59

I used to have a romantic cozy idea about wrapping on Christmas Eve, with a baileys and Christmas music or a movie on. This was ok years ago before kids and stockings etc, but now the reality is never like that. Also it is a bit of a chore after the first couple.

But I can't do it too soon as I might forget what's what and were I have put them. So I have been chipping away at it the last few days and hour here or there. Mostly done now and definitely not leaving any for Christmas eve!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 21/12/2016 21:06

Definitely not as I buy, buying starts around the end of September and ends around now and I don't want wrapping paper etc lying around for three months. They might get ripped as I add new things to the hiding place and even if I keep lists I still like to look at it all together for one person to make sure it's enough/right. Start wrapping around the start of Dec, get the DCs done before the last week of school (got caught once as they were off sick the last week) and do the others in small bursts as and when. I've still got a few to do but very little planned for next couple of days so plenty of time.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 21/12/2016 21:18

Things to be posted get wrapped in early December. The rest, once I've finished or nearly finished, so that I can see what I've got for each person.

belleandsnowwhite · 21/12/2016 22:12

I hate wrapping, so have been doing it as I buy. I couldn't do it christmas eve as my oldest will be down stairs most of the night watching tv and my youngest wakes up a lot.

MummyIsAFreeElf · 22/12/2016 03:22

I'm normally finished wrapping everything at this stage. This year my lovely helpful other half decided to move everything into one place. Then putting a really big heavy box, that has to be built rather than wrapped, in front of the little boxes that I can't reach. He's been on night shift the last two weeks and has gone to work before kids have gone to bed. So it will probably end up being a frantic wrapping breakdown on xmas eve instead of curling up with hot chocolate and it's a wonderful life! Angry

73kittycat73 · 22/12/2016 03:39

I've done most of mine, about 6 to go. I don't wrap as I buy. I have wrapped some a few weeks ago and will be wrapping the last few on Friday. Doing a food hamper for my brother and the food shop is (Hopefully.) coming Friday. I don't love wrapping but don't hate it per se.

Bearsnumberonefan · 22/12/2016 06:41

Used to be wrap as I buy but this year is my first year of working full time so that's not always possible. Done 2 big evening stints, about 3 more to wrap but there will always be wrapping to be done on Christmas Eve! If nothing else when all have been brought down from the loft and you find that one awkward shaped present with a rip in the paper

Groovee · 22/12/2016 06:42

We did a big shopping day in November and wrapped then.

Sierra259 · 22/12/2016 07:00

I do an hour or so each evening from 19th/20th. I enjoy it as long as I'm not doing it for hours at a time, or panicking about getting it all done. I like to have the bulk of it done (bar maybe a few stocking bits) by Christmas eve. Like another poster, I don't start wrapping for someone until I have all their gifts and starting early-ish gives me a few days to pop out for other needs if needed/forgotten.

I also like having lots of different colours/designs of wrapping paper rather than all the same. And the "Santa presents" are always done in completely different paper to everything else Xmas Smile

Sierra259 · 22/12/2016 07:01

Sorry that should be before Christmas eve Xmas Blush

mnistooaddictive · 22/12/2016 07:26

I'll do a couple of hours tonight, tomorrow night and then anything left Christmas Eve. Dh cuts the sellotape as I wrap.

ChristmasEvePJs · 22/12/2016 07:50

I wrapped for 5hrs on Monday and 2hrs on Tuesday night. That's it all including stockings.

Hulababy · 22/12/2016 09:11

Somewhere in between. Normally after I break up from school in first couple of full days off. All done bar one now, and under tree. Some been delivered to family and friends in last couple of days as well

cantfindausername2 · 22/12/2016 09:22

I used to leave it but the stress was too much. I have finished all my wrapping and the for the first time in years I am not hurrying the kids to bed or wrapping until the early hours.

trixymalixy · 22/12/2016 09:29

We used to wrap on Xmas eve until one year the kids just would not go to sleep and DH and I were up until 3am wrapping while both suffering with a fluey type thing. Never again!!

I now do a day wrapping while the kids are at school. I don't work a Friday so I do it then.

Luttrell · 22/12/2016 09:29

In the evenings. I store neatly in boxes so no wrinkling/tearing.

I don't like doing it on Christmas Eve, I like to lay them out and then have a drink.

mummydawn07 · 22/12/2016 10:05

I have always done my wrapping on xmas eve, I like to get a nice alcoholic drink and nibbles Xmas Grin sit and wrap all the presents with a xmas film on tv, my dds go to bed with nothing under the tree and when they wake up xmas day they are shouting look mummy look daddy! father Christmas has been their faces light up, it is the best feeling in the world.

Chasingsquirrels · 22/12/2016 10:09

Used to be Christmas eve, but as the kids get older that gets later and later.
This year I was going to do it on Monday night as my kids were with their dad, got everything out and discovered I only had 1 roll of wrapping paper plus some bits. Do ds2 is done but I need more paper for ds1 and other family. Must get out of bed and go shopping!

mummydawn07 · 22/12/2016 10:16

Chasingsquirrels I too need to get more paper, but can't stomach the thought of going into town with the kids, every shopping trip is a nightmare and it is just TOO busy at this time of year especially now the schools have finished for the hols... I am breaking tradition this year now as I have my dad come over for drinks on xmas eve and last year by the time they left I was so tired and had to wrap the presents, so this year I can just chill when they leave and enjoy my drink with a film Xmas Grin
