Is anyone disappointed with their advent calendar?

I've never had an advent calendar before apart from the odd cadburys one, but this year, for some reason best known to himself, husband bought me a Schleich farm one. Obviously I'm an adult, but I'm wondering if children get a bit disappointed with this type of calendar? On Wednesday I had a sticker, yesterday a cabbage, and today a pitchfork. Hopefully tomorrow will be good, as I can tell by the shape that Sunday's going to be another bit of fence.

I made my teen daughters advent calendars for the first time this year after being inspired by mumsnet, and stuck to a £25 each budget. I wish someone would make one for me.

I just wondered if anyone else was a bit disappointed, or if not, suggestions of a good one (to buy myself) next year.

Is anyone disappointed with their advent calendar?

Get the Thorntons Continental one next year - it's lovely Xmas Grin

The farm one does sound a bit Xmas Hmm...

AppleAndBlackberry · 09/12/2016 18:29

I don't have one at all, although I think that may be preferable to the farm one! Are you a farmer/vet/person with an interest in livestock?

costababe · 09/12/2016 18:47

Dear friends bought/ made my advent calendar this year, countdown to Christmas with 25 bottles of cava, yeah, no disappointment in this house!

Shock full size bottles? Fun!

(Much more fun than fence piecesConfused)

monsterbookofty · 09/12/2016 19:36

I have a Yankee candle one. Its ok but only the Christmas eve scent seems to fill my living room. The others are a bit meh.
On a side note the dc ate all their chocs this morning!

TalkingofMichaelAngel0 · 09/12/2016 19:39

Nobody got me one.

Goandplay · 09/12/2016 20:44

My sister follows a blogger who is a fully grown adult and her mum still does her an advent calendar. Sometimes it will be a expensive gift and sometimes it will be Zoflora. I am jealous...

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 09/12/2016 21:16

Last year I treated myself to the Yankee Candle one...it was rubbish!! Just three scents on a rota. I had been hoping for 25 different fragrant candles but nope....three!!! And none of them were particularly nice.

Bearsnumberonefan · 10/12/2016 07:25

I have two - no7 and benefit cosmetics. Benefit one is pants. I've never used their stuff before and I've decided I won't use again. I'm loving my no7 one though. Makes me happy to get up each morning.

I8toys · 10/12/2016 07:32

I've got 4!!! M&S - love. Thorntons Continental - love. H&M - crap but was in sale. Yankee Candle - meh! Although I got a special Christmas holder to go with it so makes me light a candle each day.

We need some sort of calendar for January - such a rubbish month.

Tangoandcreditcards · 10/12/2016 07:35

Not so much disappointed, more frustrated.

Got a gorgeous family nativity scene with little fabric characters with Velcro that come out of the pockets and stick on the stable to make up the scene.

Every day I get one out and add it to the scene. Every day I come home from work and my order-obsessed DS (2.10) has tidied them all back into their pockets.

It's getting a bit tedious now we're on day 10. Grin

Ilovenannyplum · 10/12/2016 07:43

I've got a Shopkins one from the 99p shop so I'm clearly winning at life

Blush
QODRestYeMerryGentlemen · 10/12/2016 07:47

Yes! ALDI Cuvee boring as hell
Glass tube of serum ever day. Every 6th day is a special treat. A tube of serum ... load of shit

Dd has the Boots No 7 and she's thrilled daily
Dh has the WEGA tools advent. It's feckin brilliant!

Rachie1986 · 10/12/2016 07:56

I have a picture one. All good.

Yankee candle. Knew it was only 6 on repeat (+Christmas eve) as we read the box, but enjoying.

And a tea one I made myself - a different twinings tea in each pocket. It's great :-)

Rachie1986 · 10/12/2016 07:56

I really wanted m&s but out of our price range ESP as we'd already bought Yankee candle.

Carneddai · 10/12/2016 08:33

My friend made one last year for her dh using random cut out clippings frim the local newspaper. You know weird headlines that make you laugh. She did 24, hidding under a postit for each day.
Such a fab idea!

Carneddai · 10/12/2016 08:33

ILikeyourHairyHands · 10/12/2016 08:37

DD had the Schleich farm one, she's been thrilled, maybe you need to be eight to appreciate it!

lookingforbaubles · 10/12/2016 09:35

i was then presented with 25 fingers of fudge with ribbons on by my dd for my advent calendar

best thing ever!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/12/2016 09:38

That's very sweet Tango :)

The more complicated we make things, the more we are setting ourselves up for disappointment. I'm slightly startled that my dds paper advent calander seems to have a bible verse under each flap, but that's what I get for buying it from the christian book shop and it does give us all the giggles slightly at being such an austere advent calendar.

ClashCityRocker · 10/12/2016 09:44

I've just got a cadburys one this year. I think the chocolate tastes nicer than their usual chocolate. Maybe coz it's so little.

Had a Yankee candle one last year and was distinctly underwhelmed. They didn't even smell particularly Christmassy.

MelchettsTinslyMoustache · 10/12/2016 10:38

DH and I have Cadburys ones which are fine, if a little small. DS(12) however has the Lego Star Wars one which he seems happy with (obviously he's not that cool yet!) and I'm just a teensy bit in love with Xmas Grin

harderandharder2breathe · 10/12/2016 17:32

I have a hobby craft one that I filled myself earlier in the year... badly as it happens! So far 4 days have been empty! The doors must've got knocked closed Angry next year I will buy 25 things and then fill it up.

PrettySophisticated · 10/12/2016 17:43

I am genuinely excited by my calendar this year. It's a paper one with a (cracker quality) joke per day.

I have it at work and work comes to a halt momentarily while we all have a good groan, then I get to make dc roll their eyes by repeating it when I get home.

Enkopkaffetak · 10/12/2016 18:53

The children all seem happy with theirs though DD3 (13) perhaps a bit sad hers is similar each day (she has lush bathbombs most days)

DD1 (18) loves hers Agatha Christie books or Tsum Tsums (as the AC books got EXPENSIVE so threw some cheaper ones in too)

DD2 (16) has Japaneese sweets or Kawaii stuff she loves it.

DS (15) Rugby /exercise stuff he likes it a lot.

Dh has coffee I don't think he likes it much. (odd as he loves coffee and I thought he would be thrilled) Last year we did a photo one from " not on the high street" That was great and worth doing again,

I have well scents / essential oils DD1 and dh did it together It is a lovely thought however I just don't get it. Dh gave me the defuser last year for Christmas. I have NEVER expressed interest in having a defuser nor am i particular interested in essential oils.. So I am puzzled. However I open one each day and duly tell them what I got. Not used one yet. (Will admit i had hoped for the Jo malone one or a nice make up one. _ promised myself I will do that next year)
