Who brings Advent Calender's?

DD is nearly 5 so fully into Christmas this year. She is asking about the advent calenders. I am tempted to bring them out tomorrow ready to open on Thursday but OH says no they just appear on the 1st. Is that the general thing to do? and if so, who brings / buys the Advent Calender's and do your LO see them before the 1st?

They used to magically appear on the kitchen table on the morning of the 1st, but no pretence that anyone other than us provided them. The DCs are older now (10 and 12) and we choose them for each other now.

Justmuddlingalong · 29/11/2016 19:10

My kids picked there own, no one brings them AFAIK.

bigredfireengine · 29/11/2016 21:33

Traditionally god parents send them.

In our house it is Ocado.

OSETmum · 29/11/2016 21:34

Grandma!

AuntieStella · 29/11/2016 21:37

They just appear, during the day on 1st Dec, so they come home from school and find them on the sofa.

It's magic, of course.

NancyJoan · 29/11/2016 21:37

Me!

Last year "Crispy" the Elf on the Shelf brought them and the kids think he will this year too. They are presents from GPs so I will make sure the kids know this and just say Crispy is delivering. I enjoy making up this sort of crap.

Whisky2014 · 29/11/2016 21:42

When we were little it was our granny who brought us ours.

OldJoseph · 29/11/2016 22:03

Jack Frost brings them. Doesn't seem quite right if it's not as cold as it should be (like last year)

IneedAqueenMortificadoNickname · 29/11/2016 22:05

Grandad buys them. Always has ever since ds1s second Christmas (he was too young the year before)

PotteringAlong · 29/11/2016 22:08

I buy them. No one brings them

ChristmasEvePJs · 29/11/2016 22:30

Grandparents buy them for our DC's every year.

MsHybridFanGirl · 29/11/2016 22:39

I make sure DD knows I bloody well buy them as her dairy free one cost me £4.75 Hmm

elQuintoConyo · 29/11/2016 22:42

DS just helped me put up ours as he had a shit day at school. There are 25 mini stockings that i wind down the bannister on gold ribbon. He helped me count and tie them in the correct order (he is 5yo). It was fun.

The 'arrival of the calendar' isn't built up to anything, just a simple 'let's put it up' type thing.

Pinkvici22 · 29/11/2016 23:01

Elf brings ours. And then reappears each morning until she brings the Christmas Eve box.

MyPatronusIsABadger · 29/11/2016 23:29

Me, we pick them out in the shops so it's not secret or special. However I guess we all go shopping together and calendars are in amongst everything else we so so couldn't really be made exactly the same in a Workshop in the North Pole!

attheendoftheday · 30/11/2016 00:38

They come from me! No way is some crummy elf taking the credit for sourcing 48 tiny presents that fit in the sodding thing.

HemlockStarglimmer · 30/11/2016 06:04

Shit! We have a chest of drawers one and haven't got it it out to fill yet. The Christmas stuff is under the bed in the spare room and there's an Airbnb guest in there until Thursday. Oops.

PoldarksBreeches · 30/11/2016 06:07

I do. Really no need for the arrival of the advent calendars to become an event IMO.

We do, although they tried to create a myth that the elves fill it overnight. The elves only had to start filling it every night because dd1 had a chocolate fest one year and opened many doors when chief elf's back was turned and sat there with a chocolatey grin.

TheInternetIsForPorn · 30/11/2016 06:59

I got them down from the loft yesterday. They're waiting on the landing so I don't forget to do it

SVJAA · 30/11/2016 07:06

Thanks for reminding me! Can't believe I forgot to buy advent calendars this year

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/11/2016 07:08
