Christmas bedding - yay or nay?

PopcornFiend · 29/10/2016 22:47

I am undecided on Christmas bedding. DH thinks tacky & unnecessary but is willing to go along with as he knows how hopelessly excited I get about Christmas.

What do you think.. Jazzy kids christmas duvets, and then maybe a tasteful fairisle for our bed? What do you all have, if any (and where to buy?)

I absolutely resisted this until last year, gave in (children's rooms only!) and they absolutely loved it. My plan is to put them on on December 1st each year.
I'm all in favour of a bit of cheese at Christmas.

SpringerS · 30/10/2016 09:55

I got them last year. A 100% cotton cartoonish Santa one for DS and a huuuge fleece for my bed, it's read with a white reindeer and snowflake pattern. I jazz it up with a few Christmas cushions. I also have Christmas cushions in my livingroom and porch.

BeaLola · 30/10/2016 12:17

I did this for my son 4 years ago - his first Christmas with us. I got a lovely 100% cotton cover from H&M - it was bright red with Santa and polar bears on it . About 2 days before Christmas I snuck his summer duvet into the duvet cover on his bed and had his winter duvet hidden in the spare room. On Christmas Eve I put the new Santa duvet cover on his winter duvet and whilst he was asleep and Santa delivered his gifts he also put the new duvet on his bed with a tag attached saying HO HO HO BEALOLA SONSNAME Thank you for my drink and the carrots, love Santa Claus xxx

When my son woke up all excited to see if Santa had been his face was a picture when he saw the new duvet over him - he kept pinching it and looked amazed ! Now every year since we put the duvet cover on 1/12 (and wash in between) - I did look at getting a new one but he loves the tradition of this one.

Do not do Christmas duvet cover for me/DH

ErrolTheDragon · 30/10/2016 12:21

Good god, no. Unless you're actually going to use it the rest of the time (as DD does with xmas PJs) then having a complete extra set to store would be ridiculous.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/10/2016 12:24

We use ours nov/dec/jan so I'd say it gets a fair whack of use. It's our only brushed cotton set and I love it.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 30/10/2016 12:41

But when you are using your Christmas set you are not using your non Christmas bedding. Therefore by using it for 1/12th of the year you save 1/12th of usage on your other bedding.

Greydog · 30/10/2016 12:47

Yes! Did it for the first time last year - just me and DH (no children at home) and we loved it! Made us laugh!

Flowerpower321 · 30/10/2016 12:49

We have brushed cotton tartan 'Christmas' bedding that actually gets used all year. Wouldn't buy sets with Santas/ Christmas trees on but tartan is inoffensive enough in June!

Kel1234 · 30/10/2016 12:53

I wouldn't, just because I wouldn't spend money on bedding I won't use the rest of the year. I'd sooner make sure the tree and decorations downstairs look nice instead, because they are what people will see.
But each to their own

OvOntToSuckYourBlood · 30/10/2016 13:48

I have Christmas duvets covers for my DC. Put them on on the 1st of December. They get stored with the decorations and take up very little room.

I don't have anything on my bed but that's because I haven't found The One. Xmas Grin

guffaux · 30/10/2016 19:37

We have two sets that we use alternate bed changes from dec 1st - both red and white, one is 'spirit of Christmas' pattern (beautiful imo) the other is a scandi affair, not too in your face. we use a red throw , which looks good with both sets. Bedroom decor is neutral so it lends itself to the change from 'ordinary' bedding to Christmas colours. Easy to store with the other Christmas soft furnishings (cushion covers, throws, table cloth and napkins, ) all in a box, in the loft, with other Christmas decs.
we decorate the bedroom, downstairs loo, kitchen/dining as well as the sitting room, otherwise dp says we'd 'just leave Christmas behind' when we leave the sitting room. Beyond love Advent and Christmas, Smile

Makemineacabsauv · 30/10/2016 20:40

Dd has just got a similar one to yours wenchelda! From home bargains for £5!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/10/2016 21:08

When they were little, I bought Christmas fleeces to go on the beds on Christmas Eve (otherwise they'd have got over hyped with excitement)

We have Christmas bedding , goes on 1st Dec ( but DD tries to get hers on 1st Nov). It's more "Winter" though.
DD has woodland animal/ fir trees
DS has red/white snowflake
DH and I have a grey Nordic print but I want stags'n'tartan this year.

Starlight2345 · 30/10/2016 21:46

I bought my DS one it will be its 3rd Christmas out this year... He loves it.. One single quilt and pillow case really doesn't take up that much space.

Anything Christmassy tends to only get used for a month a year at most..

AlwaysInTheMiddle · 30/10/2016 21:53

not a Christmas one but, DD sleeps like a log so on Christmas Eve I change her bedding whilst she is asleep and then she wakes on Christmas morning to a new duvet and pillow case.

Last year it was a wolf one and this year it's a snow leopard one Smile

Cagliostro · 30/10/2016 23:57

Nay for me but mainly because we have no more room to store something that is unused for most of the year!

DCs are getting new duvet covers on Christmas Eve this year because they need some anyway but they are a t-Rex and space theme so errrm not very festive :o

WhisperingLoudly · 31/10/2016 00:09

Where do you buy it from?

I noticed last year that Next had done nice ones but they don't seem to be doing them this year

GobbolinoCat · 31/10/2016 09:22

I dont have any yet but want some, I have a set from next for dd but its not xmassy enough, I have not found good set for us yet.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/10/2016 09:28

This is mine. Excuse crumpleness, it's been on the bed a few days. Last years m and s.

Christmas bedding - yay or nay?
Ineedmorelemonpledge · 31/10/2016 09:39

YAY, YAY and thrice YAY!

You can find Skandi ones on eBay. But also you could compromise on the adult bed and go warm plaid? Then chuck on a few festive cushions?

For kids I bought a fab penguin print from H&M home last year. They have lovely ones each year.

MackerelOfFact · 31/10/2016 14:54

I quite like the idea but red (which most of them contain) would clash horrendously with all our bedroom colours, and the photo ones are a bit freaky. If there are less tacky tasteful pastel or silver ones I could be tempted...

roseteapot101 · 31/10/2016 15:08

i think its fun and you can get tasteful Christmas duvets just shop around

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 31/10/2016 16:26

Always in the middle

DD sleeps like a log so on Christmas Eve I change her bedding whilst she is asleep and then she wakes on Christmas morning to a new duvet and pillow case

That is the most Christmassy thing I've read for a long time! I love it! Xmas Grin

oldlaundbooth · 31/10/2016 16:29

Feeling the Christmas lurve on this thread 🎄Grin

Pagerty · 31/10/2016 21:32

This will be the first year that we have done it for DC, if I bother for our room it will only be because I have come across a gorgeous throw or cushion for the bed.
