So Lapland... 7&5 or 8&6

What's going to be the best age? Will dd no longer believer at 8.5? I've read loads and loads of threads but there's differing opinions. Ds is very hardy and his birthday is in the November (lots saying the younger ones don't like the cold?).

It's such a lot of money, if we do it we will only be doing it once.

Please can you also all tell me how much you loved it Grin

Totally following! I think we planned for 4 and 6 or 5 and 7. I would be afraid 8 and 6 is too late.

I would say 8 & 6. We took our children last year 10,9,6&5. They all loved it equally. It was amazing!

I went last year and DD at 5 was comfortably the youngest there. To my surprise, kids up to 11/12 still loved it.

8 and 6. It doesn't even matter if they don't believe anymore. DS1 was 8 and he didn't believe but had the time of his life. It is really exhausting and there were some younger ones on our trip not enjoying it because of the cold and tiredness.

I worked a few seasons out there and 7 & 5 are both in the "magic" age

We did 8 (+1 month) and 6 (+4 months) and it was brilliant. There were some 4/5 year olds and they suffered with the cold (-32) and the evenings (we were in bed by about 9.30) but as it is dark early the nights feel longer iyswim.

We were staying on a reindeer farm though so no streetlights etc and evening activities were a firepit by the lake watching the northern lights

Was amazing Smile

Summersazz we are going to the reindeer farm this Christmas. My DCs are 8 and 4. I am hoping I can keep my 4 yr old warm enough with several layers and hand warmers.

Ooh exciting Running - does it begin with T?

The weather was exceptionally cold when we were there v normal temps. It had been -5/-10 for most of Dec and then turned just before Xmas. We were never cold as the clothes they give you are fab - its just the time the littlies spend on the snowmobile ride or husky ride as they are just sat down doing nothing. They had rugs which would normally be ok but it was so perishingly cold. However one of the tour ladies took all the kids back for a hot choc and we went back out on the snowmobiles Grin

7&5 will be fine as you have the right clothing the children will be fine. My DD went at just turned four and didn't complain about the cold once. We went again when it was even colder and she didn't complain.

We are going on a day trip from our local airport with 6.3 year old DGS and 4.3 year old DGD. 4.3 is a very sturdy little girl, I hope it will magical for them .
We decided on day trip as , although it is a long day they can sleep on the plane home and we live 10 mins from airport.
Plan to pack onesies for journey home and a bag of little treats .
I am getting nervous as the time approaches !

Yes we are going to a place that begins with 'T'. Love your photos. I am really hoping we see the northern lights.
For DC I will buy long sleeved base layers, fleeces, joggers, fluffy socks, hats and mittens. I have some hand warmers - the type that are reactivated by boiling them. I have also found some fleece snoods that I thought would protect face and neck from cold wind.
Do you think we should take skiing goggles?

We went when my DD was 5. In retrospect, I would've waited another year. Also know people who have taken teens, who thoroughly enjoyed the trip!

We took merino wool long sleeved tops and 'long johns' - mountain warehouse did these very reasonably. We also took goggles and snoods and socks and thin fleeces. The outer clothes, boots, balaclavas and mittens they give you are fab so you don't need any of these.
We saw the Northern lights 3 or 4 times in 5 days. Feel free to pm me if you want

I didn't want to disclose where Running is going Autumn - its pretty small and could be 'outed' in the Northern Hemisphere Grin

That is is similar to the price we paid on a per night basis - we went for 5 days though and actually over Xmas which really made the trip an extra notch more special. We also had full board and many activities (range of yours aren't mentioned)

We also didn't want to stay in a ski resort in a large hotel but out in the countryside where we found Father Christmas across the lake in a wooden cabin.

Many people do enjoy the resort option so you need to work out your preference?

Right I've Dh decided 8&6. So I'll probably be posting again next year Grin need to know the best time to book....I can't do last minute because of work so I'm guessing the earlier the better...
