Is now in store! They have the usual offerings (Gluhwein, stollen, epic fudge) and a few new bits - chocolate covered stollen bites, and flavoured nuts. For everyone on MN's benefit I have done some taste testing and can confirm that the salted caramel almonds are extremely delicious, although the bags they're sold in could be a LOT bigger. You're all welcome.

I love Aldi, I really do but don't think that the Christmas stuff is up to much to be honest. Seem's to be overpriced even compared to other Supermarkets stuff.

The "poultry" gravy last year being a note in point.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/10/2016 12:44

Really? It's amazing!

The Florentines are delicious!

LBOCS2 · 05/10/2016 12:50

I think that their gifty nibbly bits are very good (and extremely good value). I don't know about their 'fresh' Christmas range - I don't use it as our joint comes from the butcher and I make my own sauces and gravies. Except brandy butter because that's a faff.

Chocolate covered stollen bites you say?

I may have to try those very soon, don't want to get some in for Christmas and find that they're a disappointment. That'd never do!

NapQueen · 05/10/2016 13:01

Mmmm dh and I adore those little soft gingerbread rounds covered in chocolate. We go through bags and bags of then.

LBOCS2 · 05/10/2016 13:05

The leibkuchen, nap? They're my favourite too - none of those in yet but I'm keeping my eye out!

OP posts:
NapQueen · 05/10/2016 13:29

Yes those!

StubbleTurnips · 05/10/2016 15:25

Mince pies??

LBOCS2 · 05/10/2016 15:38

Yep!

Thank You for the taste testing op Grin

StubbleTurnips · 05/10/2016 15:47

That is the best news I've had all day, and it's been a good day!!

SpringerS · 05/10/2016 15:52

Their florentines really are the best. I first had them two years ago when they were selling them off after Christmas and after my first box, I went back down to Aldi and pretty much bought the lot. Last year, I was bying them regularly from October onwards but finished off my last ones a few days before Christmas. I went down on the 23rd planning to buy a good few boxes to see me through the main part of Christmas only to find them all gone. I was gutted. 3yo DS saw my face and asked what was wrong and I sadly told him Christmas was ruined.

DH reacted with panic that I'd freak out DS but he didn't realise that DS loved saying "Christmas is ruined" as it's a theme on just about all kid's Christmas specials. Drop a piece of pasta, "Christmas is ruined," stub your toe, "Christmas is ruined," have to wear your second favourite sock as your very favourite is in the wash, "Christmas is ruined." So DS went around Aldi chuckling about mummy not getting her biscuits and Christmas being ruined. And I didn't have to hide the fact that I was so sad that my nightly Christmas treat of hot chocolate with Baileys wouldn't have it's perfect florentine compliment.

My work has just moved offices and I now drive past an Aldi on the way home, I popped in today for grapes and found the Christmas range was in.
Aldi Christmas fudge takes some beating for me, this year they have Belgium chocolate & sea salt, Maple salt (which I have just had a piece of and is delicious) and I think a plain one which I didn't get.

Chasingsquirrels · 05/10/2016 16:47

I didn't see florentines - maybe I'll have to go again on Friday :)

LBOCS2 · 05/10/2016 17:43

You're very welcome wobbly. I live basically opposite an Aldi. It's both a blessing and a curse.

Their Champagne Christmas pudding is absolutely fantastic. I have bought one for several years running now.

OpheIiaBaIIs · 05/10/2016 18:49

We currently have the fancy mince pies and lebkuchen on taste test. I can confirm that both are divine Smile

Last year I forgot to buy a Christmas cake (I know) so on Christmas eve I ran into Aldi and bought one from their Specially Selected range - reduced to half price due to the late purchase Smile Well bugger me if it wasn't the best shop-bought Christmas cake I've ever tried. I'll be buying again this year, but I won't leave it so late!

The frozen Christmas meats are good, too - they have some in our local store already. Good for those days in between Christmas and new year when you're making a smaller dinner. The five bird roast was gorgeous last year, and they've got it in again this year.

namechangingagainagain · 05/10/2016 18:51

Can I also confirm the chocolate covered stollen bites are very very good (and my diet is now fecked for the next 3 months)

HungryHorace · 05/10/2016 18:58

The lebkuchen are amazing! We had some last year and they didn't last very long at all. :-)

HerestoyouMrsRobinson · 05/10/2016 19:01

Could someone tell me if the Florentines are gluten free please?

ImperialBlether · 05/10/2016 19:09

The selflessness on this thread is heartwarming.

Ooooh DH loves the butter fudge (he doesn't eat chocolate - weird Xmas Grin ) I'll sneak in and buy a few boxes for him.

TheHighPriestessOfTinsel · 05/10/2016 20:17

oh, I wonder if the chocolate coffee truffle things are back in?
I must check if they're up to the usual standard...

smellylittleorange · 05/10/2016 20:28

well thank you all for being so adorably selfless...any alcohol offerings? they had some glasses of alcoholic coffee before I've kept the glasses but only got two...need moreBlush

LBOCS2 · 05/10/2016 20:55

They had their faux-Baileys but nothing else yet, IIRC.
