Aldi Xmas Food

Is now in store! They have the usual offerings (Gluhwein, stollen, epic fudge) and a few new bits - chocolate covered stollen bites, and flavoured nuts. For everyone on MN's benefit I have done some taste testing and can confirm that the salted caramel almonds are extremely delicious, although the bags they're sold in could be a LOT bigger. You're all welcome.

We haven't got an aldi nearby, but Lidl is a short drive. Has anyone done a taste test on their Christmas food?

Dh and I 'accidentally' shared a box of Aldi stollen on the way home from our shop this week. We'll probably be sharing a box each week for the foreseeable. We feel it's essential to taste test ( multiple times) before giving to the kids at Christmas.

I might have to go back to Aldi and see if they were just hiding. I love them so much.

The Liebkuchen are in my local Aldi, they are my favourite Christmassy snack in the whole world Grin

I made a platter of the lebkuchen, stolen bites, Florentines, and mini mince pies for our Xmas party at playgroup. I was overrun with people wanting to know where it was all from. If I start buying now I will eat it all I bloody love Xmas Aldi food!

My DH is dairy-free so unfortunately it sounds like all of these things will be purchased purely for meeeeee! Xmas Grin

the Florentines!
They didn't even last the car journey home (I had a run of red lights) and now all I can think of is getting back to aldi to buy more.

Will have to road test the salted maple fudge later to avoid lapsing into a diabetic coma.

Ooh yes the Irish coffees....mmmmm I can't make them myself so we always get these (but only at Xmas)

Failing that M&S sometimes do them as part of the dine in for 2 offer

I'd forgotten about the gingerbread ice-cream. I think I bought one tub out of curiosity and then had a small bowl every day for the rest of December.

Is the gingerbread ice cream in yet?

I thought the butter fudge was nicer than the salted fudge last year.

JasperDamerel · 05/10/2016 21:35

They don't have the salted fudge this year. I think the maple syrup one looks the closest. The salted one was unspeakably good.

They did proper caviar a couple of years ago. I'd like it if they did that again.

They had their faux-Baileys but nothing else yet, IIRC.

oh, I wonder if the chocolate coffee truffle things are back in?
I must check if they're up to the usual standard...

Ooooh DH loves the butter fudge (he doesn't eat chocolate - weird Xmas Grin ) I'll sneak in and buy a few boxes for him.

The selflessness on this thread is heartwarming.

Could someone tell me if the Florentines are gluten free please?

The lebkuchen are amazing! We had some last year and they didn't last very long at all. :-)

Can I also confirm the chocolate covered stollen bites are very very good (and my diet is now fecked for the next 3 months)

We currently have the fancy mince pies and lebkuchen on taste test. I can confirm that both are divine Smile

Last year I forgot to buy a Christmas cake (I know) so on Christmas eve I ran into Aldi and bought one from their Specially Selected range - reduced to half price due to the late purchase Smile Well bugger me if it wasn't the best shop-bought Christmas cake I've ever tried. I'll be buying again this year, but I won't leave it so late!

The frozen Christmas meats are good, too - they have some in our local store already. Good for those days in between Christmas and new year when you're making a smaller dinner. The five bird roast was gorgeous last year, and they've got it in again this year.

Their Champagne Christmas pudding is absolutely fantastic. I have bought one for several years running now.

You're very welcome wobbly. I live basically opposite an Aldi. It's both a blessing and a curse.

I didn't see florentines - maybe I'll have to go again on Friday :)

My work has just moved offices and I now drive past an Aldi on the way home, I popped in today for grapes and found the Christmas range was in.
Aldi Christmas fudge takes some beating for me, this year they have Belgium chocolate & sea salt, Maple salt (which I have just had a piece of and is delicious) and I think a plain one which I didn't get.
