Rubbish title but I'm off to bed in a min (it's been one of those days).

As usual links are on post two.

If I've missed anything good (which could be very likely as I'm getting back to work mode atm) let me know.

We have had Sylvanians and Playmobil, and I would go for Playmobil every time. Except for houses. Get a Sylvanian House for them to live in, as the Playmobil ones keep breaking apart. Everything else though, vehicles, figures etc are pretty fragile in the Sylvanians range.

Some bits of Playmobil have broken as my youngest is far from gentle, but they are much more sturdy IMO.

LikeSilver · 18/09/2016 09:46

I too got a giant unicorn. It'll be fine when it's here/opened but I have no idea where I am going to hide it until the big day!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 18/09/2016 09:50

My dds at almost 8 and 4 still chooses to play with the happyland over playmobil and sylvannians. However not the happyland people - normally shopkins, paw patrol or disney characters!

Could u buy a second hand sylvannian set and a small playmobil and see which she enjoys most then buy more of which she likes for her next birthday :)

CandyMcJingles · 18/09/2016 09:57

Playmobil people are great, the moving arms and legs means more imaginative play.
I'm dithering above what house to get - that's an interesting point about Playmobil houses coming apart - we have the small shopping centre and it is in bits.
I don't know whether to go for a sylvanian one now or a barber sized one for bigger dolls. DD is 3 and plays with Playmobil Pepe everyday and has lots of peppa pig fairground stuff which is fairly sturdy.
But if she gets into Barbour size dolls they won't fit in a sylvanian.
It's so complicated!

Last year I got my at the time 3 yr and 5 yr old playmobil and Sylvanian. I would say they prefer the Sylvanian stuff I think just cause it's cuter. A lot of the tiny stuff is kept in a tub. But they play away with it for hours. I bought them both a second hand house and decorated it then furnished with Sylvanian furniture, and since then they've had other various sets to add to their village. My now 6yr doesn't play with her playmobil but my almost 4yr still does. She got the unicorn advent calendar last year and a zoo and loves them. So she will get more playmobil stuff this Xmas.
I'd say it really depends on ur kid, get a set of both maybe and see what she likes playing with best. You could show her a YouTube clip of both of kids playing and see how she reacts to both?

I really want the new Asda kitchen for DS but can't decide to go with the £20 off £100 nd get £20 worth of free stuff that we don't need or wait for another deal?!

As it's not dispatched till October, do they take money now or when it's despatched?!

I'm not sure whether a waking up to find a giant unicorn staring at you would be a pleasant experience or not... I think just because of the scale it might freak me them out! And I've not even seen the Godfather... Wink

Agree with whoever said the Happyland got far more play than Sylvanians or Playmobil. Neither of the other two got much traction here.

Xmas Angry even

TheImprobableGirl · 18/09/2016 10:57

ickle the free bits always sell on quite well- we managed to get the costs down by selling furniture that came with the dolls house- although lots will tell you to forgoe the asda kitchen and buy an ikea one !!

WuTangFlan · 18/09/2016 10:59

You know your kids, Improbable, you'll be a better judge than I of whether it would go down well with them! I didn't know the festive icons were working already... 98 sleeps to go!! Xmas Grin

confuugled1 · 18/09/2016 11:01

I've just been looking for Sunny's robots and managed to find a 5 pack for £2.73 here which is only a pound more than the cheapest price for a two set.

While looking I also found these foam earth balls The link is for 2 for £1.04 although there are lots of single ones for 99p, seems a better deal to pay 5p more and get two. Or there was a pack of 12 globe balls for £4.37 Just thought that at less than 40p each they might be good for party bags or for teachers wanting to give a little gift without having to resort to chocolate.

And indeed for anyone that's got a difficult person to buy a present for - one of these and a box of chocolate/bottle of wine/etc... And then you have given them 'the world and chocolate/etc too' so how can they complain! Xmas Grin

Redken24 · 18/09/2016 11:05

stil waiting on shark bed :(

ShoppingBasket · 18/09/2016 11:10

I've heard a well known toy store put up their prices before 20% sale and so when you buy in the sale it ends up being the same if not dearer! Not sure how true this is as I've been reading it on Facebook and obviously everything you read on there is true...Hmm

TheImprobableGirl · 18/09/2016 11:12

cafe rouge have 40% off all Mains for the week any money saved can go towards more unicorns bargains

winewolfhowls · 18/09/2016 11:14

Ickle, we bought ds at age 2 the aldi kitchen. I liked it better than the asda one, and it is very sturdy for what was approx twenty five quid. Aldi also did some good accessories like a toaster set. It is a bit smaller than the ikea one. Perhaps they might do them again this year?

FeelingSmurfy · 18/09/2016 11:18

I had sylvanian when I was a child, but even though I love it I would go for playmobil. It has a bigger range so it can be played with by everyone whereas you have to like cutesy things to use sylvanian. So any friends playing over are more likely to join in, or any future siblings if they are more rough and tumble

I think there is more scope for making stories etc up with it too, and you can buy certain sets to go with what they are in to at the time (studying dinosaurs at school, dinosaur set. Going to farm for their birthday, farm set etc)

As long as you remove the tiny bits it's suitable from a young age, hard-wearing and washable

FeelingSmurfy · 18/09/2016 11:19

Banoffee can you tell me a few things you are trying to order? Will try it and show you. There are no codes though

FeelingSmurfy · 18/09/2016 11:23

Thanks confuugled I have just got 5 packs of those earth balls for £5.05 as it's 5% off if you buy more than one pack of two. They will be great in the shoeboxes I fill each year, I always put a ball in and this is a ball plus they get the globe so it's like something extra without taking up extra room

confuugled1 · 18/09/2016 11:38

Sorry, didn't make it very clear in my previous post that the foam earth balls (2 for £1.05) and the pack of 12 globe balls for £4.37 were the same sort of balls - all similar sized, all balls that look like they have a little globe printed on. Not sure why I called one earth balls and the other globe balls, they were interchangable in my mind.

Sorry FeelingSmurfy if you'd gone for the pack of 12 you'd have got more balls and paid less Xmas Sad

woodwaj · 18/09/2016 11:40

Any recommendations on train tracks/sets please? We've had happy land (and the train broke), and I'm trying to decide what to replace it with ...
