I asked earlier about about everyone's favourite Christmas books, so thought I'd start a thread asking everyone what theirs and their children's favourite Christmas movies are.
Mine in the Santa Claus. So many good memories of watching it with my nan, all cosy at Christmas time. My 3 y/o dd became obsessed with home alone last Christmas.
I love being able to talk Christmas and not have eyes rolling Smile

Ilikegin · 06/09/2016 22:53

Home alone 1&2
Elf
It's a wonderful life

Christmas bliss right there.. Ooh I feel festive just thinking about it!

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 06/09/2016 22:56

National lampoon
Meet me in St Louis
A Christmas Carol, any version but preferably the Muppets'

I also have a mind to start a tradition of rewatching modern classics:
Frozen (with the kids)
The Gavin and Stacey Christmas special (after kids go to bed, with a drink)

Can't wait Grin

OliviaStabler · 06/09/2016 22:59

Mine's an oldie but a goodie, The Bishop's Wife. Just love a bit of Cary Grant.

elQuintoConyo · 06/09/2016 23:04

The Snowman
Elf
Die Hard

DS only has Polar Express so far. It has its moments- i love the CARIBOU! - but it also annoys me: Hanks when he says "the ice has frozen over the tracksssssss" is so fake, and i really don't like the creepy elves. Or the arse-clenchingly bad song the kids sing Angry yuck! And the hobo is shit. However, it is played on average twice a month in the elQ house.

This year DS will be getting Muppets. Is 5yo too young for Home Alone? He would possibly get a bit wibbly at the thought of being abandoned, but would love the violence! If Christmas With The Minions existed he'd be one happy child!

elQuintoConyo · 06/09/2016 23:06

Oh, Meet Me in St Louis is great! I'll buy it for my own stocking Grin

SanityClause · 06/09/2016 23:11

Meet me in St Louis has great music, but the message that one of the daughters won't need to go to college, if she gets engaged really made me cringe, when watching it with DDs, recently.

ILikeThatSong123 · 06/09/2016 23:16

I love, love, love Christmas with the Kranks. It so reminds me of my own parents, the way things were in my family years ago when I started living abroad (UK) and went home with hubby for holidays. Sadly my dear dad passed away few years ago and dear mum is very old and fragile now and everything has changed but this film warms my heart. Its a bit sad, a bit funny and so much familiar.
I also love The Holiday, and like Home Alone series and the Polar Express.

Turntopage394 · 06/09/2016 23:20

Elf
Nightmare before Christmas
Polar express
Muppets christmas carol
Arthur christmas
Oh and grinch lol

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 06/09/2016 23:21

Sanity it is a very old-fashioned film but it has something for everyone:

DD loves Tootie's violent outburst when she destroys the snow family Shock

DP identifies with the outnumbered, grumpy father

Personally I watch it for the music, the incredible dresses and the impossibly huge, ornate cakes they eat at family celebrations Grin

Mummyto2bubs · 06/09/2016 23:31

The Muppet's Christmas Carol! I have it on in the background almost daily for the whole of December!

Havingkittens04 · 07/09/2016 04:17

Up being sick with morning sickness (20 weeks pg) and looking forward to Christmas is helping me through Xmas Grin

I have faves that are compulsory viewing with my DD (3.5) every Christmas, but I've got my own list as long as my arm of films I've watched year after year.

Here are mine in the order I usually watch them -
National Lampoons Christmas vacation (as soon as tree and decorations are up with mince pies and egg nog)
Deck the halls
Home Alone
home Alone 2 Lost in New York
Santa Claus the Movie (the real Santa is in this Xmas Wink)
A Christmas Story (I love Ralphie)
muppets Christmas Carol (after visiting our local Christmas Market)
Scrooge (Albert Finney version)
Nativity! (Martin Freeman) (after DDs nursery nativity)
elf
bad Santa (usually with DH when he gets in from his work Chrustmas do Xmas Grin)
Christmas with the Kranks
holiday inn
White Christmas
It's A Wonderful Life (on Christmas Eve)

For some reason we watch The holiday annually on New Years Eve, as opposed to at Christmas Xmas Confused

I watch Meet Me In St Louis all year round x

Mamatallica · 07/09/2016 04:36

Gremlins is my favourite. Loads of fun and makes me feel all Christmassy without being sickly sweet and soppy like most Christmas films.

Ladybirdturd · 07/09/2016 08:53

Oh yes I love Christmas with the kranks!

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 07/09/2016 09:01

I love all the cheesy made for tv Xmas films. My favourite being Holiday in handcuffs.

I need to get in to some classics as there's loads I haven't seen. This thread is giving me lots of ideas.

CheeseandGherkins · 07/09/2016 09:10

Family man is one of my favourite christmas films, I also really love Elf.

originalmavis · 07/09/2016 09:12

Elf. Or the nightmare before Christmas.

Bubblebloodypop · 07/09/2016 09:18

The Grinch Grin

derryjojo · 07/09/2016 10:34

Mine are Muppets Christmas Carol, It's a wonderful life and Scrooged.

Ladybird333 · 07/09/2016 10:46

Miracle on 34th St.... no, Elf.... no, Home Alone..... no, The Velveteen Rabbit...... Oh I can't decide!

Kittykatmacbill · 07/09/2016 15:07

I can't believe no one has said Scrooged! Definitely part of mine and dh's Christmas warm up! Also love it's a wonderful life, but normally byself (and a stack of ironing). Dd1 loved mickeys cams last year, hopefully we will find more things this year...

originalmavis · 07/09/2016 15:30

The minister's wife (may have been a Bishop or Reverend I forget). The one with David Niven and Cary Grant.

RJnomore1 · 07/09/2016 15:44

I've just ordered a Christmas story on DVD on the back of this thread. 😀

My favourite is national lampoon.

Followed by Christmas with the kranks, deck the halls, and the one with arnie it whose name I always forget!
