I'm ready for Christmas now.

That glint of the winter sun early in a morning. You can see your breath but the sunshine makes everything sparkle.

The feeling in the air as shoppers wander home, it's already dark and everywhere glows with lights and candles.

The sound of schoolchildren singing carols at our local church.

The look on faces when they open gifts, cooking as a family. The drive between houses to see other family. Hot chocolate, warm slippers, tinsel.

My first Christmas as a mother. Waking up with my daughter every day.

Just me? It's probably just me.

To be fair, there is a Christmas board.

I'm left feeling genuinely unsettled after reading this thread as I have birthdays and Christmas to pay for in the next few months, and no money. My focus was purely on getting through the first few days/weeks of back to school/new job etc without having to worry about all of that!

But I'll just hide the thread now and shut up!

WhatamessIgotinto · 04/09/2016 09:35

Aw I feel sorry for the OP, it's her first Christmas with her DD ya miserable fuckers! Grin

CuppaSarah · 04/09/2016 09:35

Last Christmas I was on labour ward Hooked up to two drips and had a catheter in abd up to my eyeballs in drugs(severe pre eclampsia). But I did have a snuggly newborn.

So this year I am so ready for Christmas. Sorted the kids minus stockings already. Started on gifts for family too. This is going to be the most stress free, magical Christmas ever.

Dowser · 04/09/2016 09:37

Christmas. Bah humbug!

I've got two summer holidays to fit in before then and a short break in November.
Then and only then ( after my grandsons birthday late November) can you drag me into Christmas!

ShelaghTurner · 04/09/2016 09:40

This is heading for my favourite time of the year now. Was ridiculously pleased when the car was covered in dew yesterday morning! Unfortunately this year afuckinggain we're skint and am worrying about kids' Christmas and birthdays in early Jan but otherwise I love it.

OiWithThePoodlesAlready · 04/09/2016 09:44

No money here either and 3 birthday's before Christmas plus two a few days after it. So really I shouldn't love it but I can't help myself.

PepsiPenguin · 04/09/2016 09:45

You grinches Wink may also like to remember the more you come on here to moan about it the more it appears in active... Just hide it if it's that annoying or upsetting. Lots of threads trigger upsetting things for others

I love Christmas, I love the Christmas board I like seeing them pop up in chat, mostly they are happy posts which is welcome relief from all the, lets face it, pretty depressing ones that populate chat most of the time.

Some of the Christmas threads for people getting prepared are amazing for bargains! Some pretty savvy people on those threads who send links to amazing deals and offers.

CatNip2 · 04/09/2016 09:50

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I do like the Autumn, those sometimes warm sunny days in September with a the low sun and a few falling leaves and berries on the hedgerows and apples in the tree BUT the C word is BANNED, BANNED, BANNED I say, until 1st December and is all over and put away on the 27th.

MintyGlint · 04/09/2016 09:53

You can all moan at me if you like but you can just hide the thread without telling me you know? This isn't AIBU!

Last Christmas I was heavily pregnant and it wasn't a good pregnancy. This year I have my DD and I thought I would never have a child. So I'm going to look forward to all the twee things I've mentioned.

WaitrosePigeon · 04/09/2016 09:54

I love September onwards Smile

OiWithThePoodlesAlready · 04/09/2016 09:56

I just had a look at the chat board and pretty much every thread could be sorted into one of the many topic specific boards.

There are ones that could be in relationships, health, holidays, education, telly addicts etc.

Report it to mnhq if you want it moved.

thecatsmiaow · 04/09/2016 09:56

hehehe mintyglint.

I know lots of people who are already excited about xmas! My friend was playing carols on Friday!

I personally am so over summer, not sure I want xmas to come quite yet as I love september so much.

Imchangingmyname · 04/09/2016 10:02

Your OP reads like a script from Xmas24. It's only like that in the movies but looking back I was exactly the same in the run up to Christmas the year my first child was born.

You'll learn, with time Grin

PepsiPenguin · 04/09/2016 10:02

I don't actually let anyone talk about Christmas at home until after my birthday (so do get the let's not talk about Christmas people a little bit) but as I craft and make all sorts of lovely things I do start early 😊😊 and love a Christmas thread on mumsnet don't care where it is!

You crack on minty but think your love some of the ideas that appear on the Christmas board loads of ideas for all sorts of things

🎅🏻 Ho Ho Ho 🎅🏻

CheerfulYank · 04/09/2016 10:02

Oh yes, I HATE summer. I do want a nice lovely autumn first though.

And then thissssss :o Can't wait for snow and snow and more snow!

I'm just going to say it.
mummytofourbabies · 04/09/2016 10:04

Really don't get it when you all get so pissy about Christmas..
I totally get some people don't like that time of year for genuine reasons, but is it really the end of the world if you open a thread about Christmas and have to close it again?

Do you really need to give it a second thought after that? Is it really the end of the world?

But yet you are all taking the time to moan about it?
Drama queens GrinGrin

Sagethyme · 04/09/2016 10:06

No no no...Halloweeeeeeeeen first. And then Christmas!

Flufflepuff · 04/09/2016 10:06

Can't wait Smile Congrats on being able to share it with your little girl too!

pasic · 04/09/2016 10:09

Roll on winter, it's been horrific in the SE, day after day of warm weather and more to come this week.

Coats and scarves, yippee.

BlueberrySky · 04/09/2016 10:17

Dreading winter and Christmas, I hate it. I find it miserable when the clocks go back, I count the time till they go forward again and we can have some light, warmth and sunshine.

Would love to live somewhere where it was always summer.

MyCatIsSparticus · 04/09/2016 10:18

I think the problem in the UK is that you have nothing to get you excited in autumn so the Christmas preparations start in September and then it's just aaaages away.

You need to start celebrating Halloween (yes, I said it that awful American holiday that's not American at all but people love to complain that it is)

And then pick up Thanksgiving. It's lovely.

MyCatIsSparticus · 04/09/2016 10:20

also if you don't like a thread don't post on it. Very easy, you are not obliged. It also keeps the thread out of active so you're less likely to be "tricked" in to reading it .

NoCapes · 04/09/2016 10:20

Yes I love it!
The Ber months are my absolute favourite
DP was moaning about the weather the other day and I said it felt like Christmas shopping weather, he looked at me like I was crackers but I know what I meant
You can just smell it can't you Grin
I've started making Christmas lists already

I've had a shit summer and I'm glad to see the back of it so I'm throwing myself into Christmas
I have DS2's 1st birthday in November though so trying to focus on that for the time being and failing miserably

OP this place is full of grinches, I love to dance through twirling my tinsel ever now and again to piss them all off 🎄 Ho Ho fucking Ho!

NoCapes · 04/09/2016 10:22

MyCat we do! Halloween is getting bigger every year, my kids love it
And we have bonfire night, which is probably my favourite night of the year
Lots to look forward to Smile

Glastokitty · 04/09/2016 10:22

Well I'm looking forward to it because I get two weeks off and as I'm in Oz it's going to be lovely and hot, mid 30s hopefully. I live my the beach so intend to spend the time pottering between pool and beach, on Xmas day we will wear our Santa hats to the beach as is traditional. Can't say I miss cold masers at all ( although many people do). Chilled champers and some seafood on the barbie though, bring it on! Grin
