He arrives back from Malaysia on Saturday and will be looking after the boys while I go. We could ask someone to have them but it means telling his family and I don't want to until I know something. I may well be in and out with a quick scan and on my way. I'm a HCP (well I was my registration has lapsed) so hospitals don't phase me.

HungryHorace · 17/11/2016 21:47

That makes sense. And at least you don't suffer 'white coat syndrome', as it were.

I really do hope that all is OK.

Totes Do-able.

Now going to watch him out of QVC whitter on about pies...........though I need to get to sleep, Christmas Shopping Planned for Friday.

Mummyshortlegz · 18/11/2016 09:33

I put on Christmas music this morning. Wilf demanded it and Gabriel sat in his high chair shouting along. It won't go on again till December :-)

HairsprayBabe · 18/11/2016 09:42

Morning all,
Hope you are doing ok Mummy
I bought some new crimbo CD's at the weekend, despos trying to hold off till the first but I have wrapping to do this weekend so i may stick one on to "test it out" and motivate my wrapping marathon.

Going shopping with DM saturday and I am determined to finish the christmas shopping, I got paid today so am feeling flash with then cash !

BiddyPop · 18/11/2016 10:02

DD has decided that she can legitimately watch Christmas movies on Netflix as much as she can! We are getting home to find she's stuck into one most evenings (she gets in about 20 minutes before me). And this morning, we were about 30 minutes into "Home Alone" before I turned it off to go to school/work (she was watching the iPad in the kitchen, while eating breakfast).

I posted my first card yesterday - as it is going to Canada and the recipients are travelling here in about 3 weeks, so I wanted them to get it before travelling. I have 1 more business trip to make, so will write the last cards on that, and post the overseas ones on my return and the local ones a week later.

Mummyshortlegz · 18/11/2016 10:14

I had a thread about not allowing Christmas movies till December. People called me all sorts!

Wrapping will be done with a large baileys and carols.

HairsprayBabe · 18/11/2016 10:50

Mummy I saw that you got absolutely roasted! FWIW I don't think you are mean, there are only so many good chrimbo films if you watch them all before December then they lose their magic!

The shite on C5 in the afternoon is different, e.g."Horse for Christmas" or "Christmas Angels" etc. and allowable as it is so bad Xmas Grin

Mummyshortlegz · 18/11/2016 10:54

I'm a control freak who controls her husband. I do just like to keep them special and they have more impact.

Mummyshortlegz · 18/11/2016 10:55

Almost there though! Two weeks to go Xmas Grin

HairsprayBabe · 18/11/2016 11:03

Are you always so controlling?

I don't think I ever rolled my eyes so hard, some people on here take things vvv seriously.

Although I am much more polite on the chrimbo boards than I am on some of the others Xmas Wink

BiddyPop · 18/11/2016 11:06

Mummy I don't disagree with you! (Except for similarly bad movies on True Christmas to those on C5!). The Christmas movies we own (dvds) and books will stay in storage until next weekend, (as 1st December is midweek), and I'll be getting the advent calendar out then too.

DD though would watch Home Alone 365 days a year if she was allowed - we lost it on the (recording box decoder thing) with the tv, so hadn't had it since last Christmas but she had already seen it so often that she can quote chunks from it!

I am saving them for me though, until I have a chance to do my wrapping in peace - which will also be in December.

I've just realized, DH is going to get the credit for the Lego advent calendar, as I will be away on 1st December Xmas Envy - unless I am really mean and only leave the chocolates (which DD has already spotted as DH is rubbish at hiding!) for him to sort, and I put out the lego when I get home late on 1st. Is that really mean??

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you Mummy as well, and it sounds like you have a plan that suits you on Monday.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/11/2016 00:11

Five weeks will be Christmas Eve Xmas Grin

Biddy , let your DH put the Lego advent calander out, let him have than the glory (because chances are, if he's anything like 90% of the blokes out there, it'll be the only moment of glory for Christmas shopping)

I went out today (shopping centre) then Sainsburys later (food) and tomorrow I'm taking DD out (shopping and cinema)

Plan: to avoid weekend shopping in December as much as possible Xmas Wink. But there's Black Friday..........................

VanillaSpiceCandle · 19/11/2016 00:29

70 - I hadn't cottoned on it was Saturday. I actually think I only very slightly might like Christmas Eve more than the big day itself. Is that awful? Don't kick me off the thread!

Handbag, sorry to hear you've been off too. Do you have any idea of when you get to back yet? I had a back to work review meeting and one of the first things I checked was that my name was in the Secret Santa hat. I mean priorities, right.

I haven't cooked anything in a long time because I couldn't lift things etc. But I was inspired by the fudge recipe. Sorry I've forgotten who posted it. I've never made it before and it was so simple. It makes lots though and it's very moreish. Think it would make a lovely gift wrapped in cellophane bags or similar.

Is anyone making any home made gifts this year?

nickdrakeslovechild · 19/11/2016 08:07

This is the first year I haven't made any homemade gifts. Just about to start on lots of homemade decorations but they are just for us.

Do I dare admit we watched Nativity yesterday Xmas Blush my DD loves them and is so excited as she is in her first Nativity this year

I have sorted out all the presents so I know who is having what and started to wrap the family & friends ones, I already wrapped and delivered my DM presents to her, for her family and friends as I do all her Christmas shopping as she cant get out anymore.

I need to write the Christmas cards but that is one job I really don't enjoy, luckily we have cut down drastically over the last few years so its an easier job than it was.

Cant wait to put the decorations up on the 1st Dec and the tree that weekend. Eeek its getting so close Xmas Grin

Mummyshortlegz · 19/11/2016 08:23

I'm going to lift the Christmas movie embargo next Sunday. Saturday im going Christmas shopping with my sister and step mum. It's an annual thing. Then Sunday we are going to the garden centre grotto with my mum so it will be very seasonal.

I am making fudge, truffles, soap, scarves, gingerbread syrup, bramble gin, personalised wooden spoons and personalised blankets.

HungryHorace · 19/11/2016 08:42

I finish work for Christmas 4 weeks yesterday! Xmas Shock I'm not quite sure how that's possible!

I'm avoiding RL shopping as much as possible as I hate crowds. We are going to see the lights in George Square next weekend which I think the kids will love.

I'm planning on wrapping the rest of the presents this weekend, so that'll be another
job done. Xmas Smile

I'm envious of all you crafty types as I'm rubbish at that kind of thing.

Mummyshortlegz · 19/11/2016 09:15

Dh is taking every Friday off until Christmas. Preschool isn't open on a Friday so it can be a long day.

I'm planning some days where he'll take the boys out and I'll have a couple of hours for me... to embroider blankets.

lollyj84 · 19/11/2016 10:09

Morning all. I've already watched home alone and santa paws this week with ds 1. I agree about xmas eve, best day of the year
Today i'm going xmas shopping with two frienda of mine, one doesn't live in London and wanted to go to westfield, slightly dreading it

VanillaSpiceCandle · 19/11/2016 10:15

Mummy, that sounds amazing. I'd love to see your embroidery in particular. Will you post a photo when they're finished? I'm good at baking but anything to do with seeing or wool or material just ends in disaster so I'm really jealous of your skills. I can make pom poms and am trying to make a hanging garland for the hall. Even though I love doing it it's really time consuming - for me anyway!

I went through all my wrapping paper and only have one roll left. I used up most of my odds and ends stash last year so am excited about picking some nice stuff. Where has everyone been buying from this year?

I need a few cheaper/children's type rolls too. It seems each gift wrapped is half a roll when they're really young. I love wrapping whilst drinking a Bailey's though.

HandbagCrazy · 19/11/2016 20:18

Biddy I would let your DH put the calendar out. I remember giving my dad loads of undeserved credit for things until I was about 8/9 and realised he was as surprised by my presents etc as I was so it won't last long!

Vanilla - I've been off for 6 weeks and have another 2 before I go back. It was unexpected (I had no idea how ill I was) but I think I've needed the rest.

I'm making homemade crochet gifts if they count? I've done a hat for my dad, DH and Dsis will have blankets and most people are getting some form of Christmas decoration.

Mummy - you must upload pics of your embroidery. I am very jealous of anyone that can do something so intricate and detailed as I am very slapdash.

I am giving in and watching Christmas movies / listening to Christmas music as it's helping me relax and keeping me focused on planning / making rather than being bored.
I can't wait to get my decs up though!

Mummyshortlegz · 19/11/2016 20:34

Ahhhhh it's machine embroidery so it's cheating. I wish I was clever and talented. I'm hoping they'll look nice. I'm just planning to machine embroider their name and some snowflakes on to a red fleece blanket from IKEA. It will be my first go with my computerised embroidery machine! I'll need lots of luck I think.

Got lots off my (numerous [fgrn] ) lists this past couple of days and doing an eBay order at the moment.

Anyone got anything in mind for Black Friday? I know DH looks for Games/Computer things.

Need to think about my DS birthday presents (he'll be 17- Xmas Shock doesn't seem that long ago I was sporting a huge PG Bump )

DD and I went to see "A Street Cat Named Bob" - smchaltzy, funny, bit sad, you know there's going to be a happy ending.

lollyj84 · 20/11/2016 07:08

Have you read the book 70?

ConstantlyCooking · 20/11/2016 08:30

I have an embargo on Christmas films and music until December 1st of first Sunday of Advent if that is sooner. For me those things are part of Christmas not a reminder of it through the year. However this year I started my Christmas reading early so cheated Blush
I need to do a final check of what I have bought and what is left to buy regarding presents and nice food.
I have advent calendars for DD and DS's girlfriend (because she loves Christmas too). DS doesn't like the chocolate in calendars very much so I haven't bought one for him, plus we have a"proper" calendar with pictures.

I had an M&S spree yesterday- used the 20% off and 3 for 2 and bought lovely candles etc for my Christmas mantelpiece.
