And for how many people?

We spent about £100 in Costco, and £250 in sainsburys. That was everything for two 'fake-mas' Christmas dinners that we hosted for 8 and 10 people respectively including all food and booze. That also includes the food and drink that I'm taking to my sister's house for Christmas itself.

WiryElevator · 22/12/2015 16:28

....but am hosting for 11 on NYD and 14 the day after, I haven't bought any of the food for that yet. I'm thinking some curries and chilli.

kansasmum · 22/12/2015 16:29

I have £200 of Sainsburys vouchers so am hoping to get everything for about 10-12 days for that including the turkey and ham I've ordered. Already bought booze cos we host an annual cocktail party and I always over cater!
They are 7 of us here on Christmas Day and 8 on Boxing Day.

Fluffy24 · 22/12/2015 16:33

About £250, includes some store cupboard things too though.

10 for a buffet, 2 at Xmas dinner, 4 on boxing day and nibbles the day after.

It seems alot but there's actually nothing very extravagant, it'll last us a week or two then it's back to eating out of the freezer all January!

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 22/12/2015 16:37

£200 in Waitrose, £300 from butcher's, deli and Marks, £280 on booze, probably another £50 in odds and sods.

Not hosting this year other than a few people on Boxing day (and off to my Mum's for Christmas lunch, so have spent £100 on seafood for a starter there for 10, and £140 for six bottles of good wine and champagne) so it's just lots and lots of piggery for us over Christmas week. Usually make everything including pickles and pork pies but have given myself a year off after fifteen years' hard kitchen graft and bought lots of stuff in, am feeling quite gleeful about it.

I had 10 people staying from overseas for a week last year and spent over 2k, I have no idea how people manage to do it so cheaply. I've spent over £80 on cheese alone...(loosens trousers).

Am impressed.

TheFear · 22/12/2015 16:37

Spent 400 Euro this week, so about £300.
That includes food and alcohol and soft drinks for 12 on Christmas day, non perishables such as washing powder and loo roll, nibbles for a small drinks party and my family of four's food for at least a week. Don't expect to need to shop again until maybe the 2nd of Jan.
I usually spend about 100 euro a week anyway so an extra 200 for a lot of booze, a giant turkey etc isn't too bad. Think food and drink in Ireland are a bit pricey compared to the UK though.

Lavent · 22/12/2015 16:44

£60 - £25 Christmas food £35 regular food until 29th. Have £10 for milk/ bread in between too.
1 adult & 3 children.
Hoping the Christmas food will do 2/3 meals Xmas Grin

rainbowstardrops · 22/12/2015 16:47

I've just come back from the supermarket and spent about £230. That's for 6 of us Christmas Day and another 6 popping in for drinks Christmas morning.

Have already bought Prosecco last week (with my online shop so DH wouldn't notice Grin)

That also includes dinners up until next Monday.

I also have a list for DH that I couldn't get today that'll probably total £20. Bloody ridiculous. We also hosted a family Christmas gathering a couple of weeks ago that cost us about £150.

It's once a year though.

ChristmasHousewife · 22/12/2015 16:48

£175, that's to feed 6 of us for 10 days (hopefully) as well as having my parents on Boxing Day and booze for everything. Happy with that.

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 22/12/2015 16:49

TheFear, I lived in the Republic for five years, is your NN related to the feeling you get whenever you approach a checkout?

TheFear · 22/12/2015 16:51

Ha hound, no it's actually an Irish expression for that Sunday evening feeling before Monday morning work..

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 22/12/2015 16:53

Ohh, I know all about that Fear too.

TheFear · 22/12/2015 16:54

The Fear may also involve a hangover!

Sallystyle · 22/12/2015 18:08

My thread made FB.

I'm very excited about that Grin

Nothing yet! The turkey is ordered and we are away from boxing day so only need to buy Christmas dinner accessories for 6. Everything was reduced by this time last year so I am hoping we can get some of the premium range things at bargain prices.

If I leave it until tomorrow afternoon will there be anything left I wonder?
(desperately hoping there is no national shortage of sprouts or pigs in blankets)

VodkaKnockers · 22/12/2015 18:17

I'm currently about £250 but that also includes my normal monthly shop which is usually around the £150 mark. So just an extra £100 this year.

Donge13 · 22/12/2015 18:18

Congratulations ThanksWine

VodkaKnockers · 22/12/2015 18:18

Sorry should say that we are at family on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day and it will only be the 4 of us on Christmas Day.

Don't really bother too much about New Year

LittleBearPad · 22/12/2015 18:29

About £480 with Ocado assuming it all turns up tomorrow. Plus another £100 odd already in the house.

LittleBearPad · 22/12/2015 18:31

That's for 5 adults and 2 small children until after the weekend

Bonkerz · 22/12/2015 18:34

Tesco shop £120
Asda shop £140
Meat £60

That will feed 6 of us Christmas and until 3rd Jan and also 12 on Boxing Day and New Year's Eve for 18!

cathpip · 22/12/2015 18:38

£1.28 that's shopping for 5 for a week :). The bill actually came too £161.28 but I've been saving my morrisons match and more vouchers and had £160 saved, I'm a little happy smug with myself!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 22/12/2015 18:40

The thread has made me calculate what I have spent and am planning to spend. Spent a bit more than I thought.
Christmas eve doing buffet and 2 meals for family (8 people)
Christmas day just us (4)
Then lots of yummy snacks/nibbles for between now and new year for us and if people pop in.

Total is £150 including some alcohol (dont drink much) but not the meat as im still undecided what to cook. Then a normal shop on top (£60 is budget but doubt I will spend that)

CharliesMouse · 22/12/2015 18:47

I spent £120 in Tesco this morning which is a bit over my weekly shop amount but included the turkey. I've been adding the odd Christmas thing to the weekly shop for a few weeks (a box of After Eights & tin of Celebrations one week, couple of tubes of Pringles the next, etc).

There will be 7 of us Christmas Eve through to Boxing Day (5 adults, a teen and a tween). Parents bring ham, cheese, cake, mince pies and some wine which helps. Christmas Eve is always ham egg and chips (nice and cheap!) and Boxing Day is bubble & squeak and leftovers. It's really only Christmas Day I push the boat out. I can't cram anymore in my fridge so really can't buy anything else!

I'm hoping I won't have to go near a supermarket until after the New Year but will have to pop to the local shop for salad, milk etc.

fourquenelles · 22/12/2015 18:50

I have been squirrelling away bits and pieces for a couple of months so already have all the booze, soft drinks, chocolates and meat. The rest of Christmas was delivered earlier today for £100 but that included big bag of dog food, their treats and some toiletries. We are being fed on Christmas Day but the delivery should do two of us and any drop ins for Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and up to and including the New Year.
