What have you bought DH/DP as a main present?

I'm having a mild panic about DH, I've bought a couple of books, an LP, a back magic exerciser thing and will be getting a few small gifts - shave foam, chocs etc. I've also got two joint presents for him and DS (lovely Maps book that was recommended on here, and a rocket launcher toy).

But that's it, and I have no clue what to get as a main gift. He's just had his birthday which doesn't help, and he really doesn't need anything. I don't want to get anything too novelty that won't actually be useful, eg he loves star wars and I assumed it would be easy to get something this year but haven't found anything that grabs me.

He also likes film generally (already has Empire subscription that I renew annually), running, DIY. I'd thought about getting some lovely photos of the kids done but have now left it stupidly late so think that's out.

So, anyone had any brainwaves for their DPs that might inspire me?

Some boots that he has been hankering after for ages but putting off buying as they're expensive. He never buys himself nice things and I don't often manage a surprise so I'm quite excited since I don't think he knows I've got them.

Tickets for a night with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Edinburgh, DH is a massive, lifelong fan. Originally priced tickets were super expensive but I managed to get them cheaper with a Group On deal. DH has no idea :) I'm dying to tell him but will keep it a surprise for Christmas Day.

Thank you all for your input, lots to look into although I haven't had that moment of inspiration yet. I'm hoping the smaller things will keep him amused enough that I won't need anything too amazing.

DH and I don't usually go too crazy on each other at Christmas but I am starting a new job in the new year which is a much bigger salary than I was already on and he has been so helpful and supportive I thought j would treat him.

So I have bought him a really expensive designer watch that I know he really wanted but he would never buy for himself. I also bought him tickets to see Dave Gorman because he likes him (I bought them as his original gift before I applied for new job) and I have also bought him Game of Thrones monopoly.

I haven't got a 'big' pressie this year just 3 medium ones. A pod coffee machine which was down to £30 in tesco, a remote control car from our son and a mature bottle of his favourite rum I found on some Spanish site at a discount price.

Other than that a new tshirt, hat, book and DVD.

Hubby does archery, so his main present was a new fancy-schmancy bow and some arrows (I have no idea about type etc)

It was a joint birthday/xmas present as it was quite expensive.

I've also wrapped up some of his favourite chocolate, a couple of books and a CD...

Gah! snowgirl1 you made me twitch - though I just bought DH a Moov Now as better for both cycling and swimming.

Up until this point DH's main present was a coffee pod machine.

A smoker box to use on our gas bbq plus some wood chips, silicone gloves and a thermometer. Also a tennis racquet that he asked for, afunky urban style lamp for his desk from etsy, books, calendar, shave stuff from Liz Earle .... Not very inspired this year. Last year I bought him an outdoor cinema screen and projector that we use a lot.

I got DH a PS4 with an extra controller and game (it came with 3 games) as a main gift and a Ford Mustang hand watch..

And he surprised me with an all inclusive trip to Cuba for 7 nights (we are leaving Christmas Eve) and our kids (age 2 & 1) will be staying with my parents... (Kind of anxious, as this will be the first time leaving the kids)

And he got me a new printer as mine broke.

Some expensive scotch and some fancy tumblers to drink it out of, and a new wallet.

DH is a bugger to buy presents for because if he ever wants something he just goes out and buys it for himself. For example, we're a bit skint this month to begin with because he's just ordered a new bespoke suit. Yesterday he bought a Sega Classic console and today a vinyl box set arrived for him in the post. You see my problem?
