Christmas

What have you bought DH/DP as a main present?

I'm having a mild panic about DH, I've bought a couple of books, an LP, a back magic exerciser thing and will be getting a few small gifts - shave foam, chocs etc. I've also got two joint presents for him and DS (lovely Maps book that was recommended on here, and a rocket launcher toy).

But that's it, and I have no clue what to get as a main gift. He's just had his birthday which doesn't help, and he really doesn't need anything. I don't want to get anything too novelty that won't actually be useful, eg he loves star wars and I assumed it would be easy to get something this year but haven't found anything that grabs me.

He also likes film generally (already has Empire subscription that I renew annually), running, DIY. I'd thought about getting some lovely photos of the kids done but have now left it stupidly late so think that's out.

So, anyone had any brainwaves for their DPs that might inspire me?

We don't go mad at Christmas as we have everything we need at our age but I saw a lovely brown waxed jacket and a leather 'indie ' hat. He's been wearing them since the end of November.

He got me 3 pairs of beautiful shoes.

Then, in less than a month, two weeks in Spain!

( actually since he drew my attention to a black line running down the front of the tv screen that matches the white one at the side, I think we are going to have to shop for a new tv!)

myotherusername thanks for the suggestion, but yes, he does have an iPod classic. And a Spottify account.

I may buy him a massage voucher for his birthday. He gave me a coffee subscription last year, or I would have done that.

Lego train set. Although sadly he found it so won't be a surprise. He said his dad always said no and he has been desperate for one since he was a kid! Was really looking forward to giving it him as a surprise

DP's main present was shared between Christmas and his (recent) birthday. He got an Xbox One with a couple of spare controllers/docking stations / games / live access etc.

I'm only working part time this year (back at uni) so he understands my disposable cash is limited!

So on top pf that I've bought slippers, wacky socks, pjs, dressing gown, a couple of little jokey things, and a stocking (he's never had one! We've just moved in together so I thought it was the perfect time to get one, even if it's a few years too late!)

Traviata, does he have an iPod classic? I got one of the 160GB ones for DPs birthday last year and he has scanned all his cds into iTunes plus whatever he has bought since and therefore has his entire music collection on tap for the car etc. He has masses of music but is still only at 40gb ish full..

Oh and I've got DP

  • series 1-8 of red dwarf
  • a big hooded jacket
  • shaving smellies from DD
  • a framed photo of his DD from previous relationship as he only has digital ones and he lost a few when his phone broke which I know upset him a bit

I know this isn't main present material (was going to suggest fitbit but see you're already considering it) but of he likes star wars and diy/building then in hmv there's a book with all the structural/engineering side of one of the ships (think its the death star but cant remember)

I am so out of ideas. And it's DH's birthday in January.

I've got;
2 books
a birdfeeder
a notebook and pen.

Whoop, how exciting these gifts are not

He doesn't want anything.
He loves music, but buys himself gig tickets and music all year round, and says he has too many CDs.
Clothes come from Mountain Warehouse.
He only eats small amounts of chocolate and has self discipline unlike me
we have too many books already.
we have Netflix, more DVDs than we'll ever watch, and keep having to delete unwatched films and TV shows.

DH is incredibly difficult. So far over the last two months he's bought himself clothes, shoes, trainers, the latest golf stuff that he wants, he doesn't wear pyjamas, there's really nothing on his list.

I've bought him Carcassone because he lines board games, a jedi lounge robe, and made a hamper up of his favourite coffee beans, wines, whiskey, and chocolates complete with a new coffee cup, travel cup & crystal whiskey decanter and matching glasses. It's not a lot but I can't think of anything else.

Oh and just because I thought he won't get excited about anything he's opening, I've just twitched and ordered him an Apple Watch strap, as he mentioned he wanted one and I pooh-poohed him that I didn't like the sports bands, and I wasn't paying the ridiculous price for a metal one (the only one I liked). Hopefully that'll be a nice surprise for him, and a bit more fun than pants and socks!!

I haven't got DP anything. I suspect we will probably end up giving each other a day/afternoon off, sometime (time is the main thing we can't buy).

Hmm. Maybe I should book a cleaner for January and give that as a gift? Or something similarly timesaving - laundry service vouchers?

Not particularly romantic Grin

One of the updated Apple TVs. Contemplating some Bose headphones too but not sure if he'll use them enough to justify it.

I have bought mine a one off sports massage (£45). Also an official polo shirt from football club we support and are going to see Boxing Day. Not regular go-ers so now we'll fit in!

A bureau, in the hope he'll stop leaving piles of crap receipts and letters all over the house.

I'll be storing up some of these suggestions for his birthday though.

Mine's a pain to buy for as he is the man who has everything and wants nothing.

If there's anything he'd like is a stress free year at work but that's unlikely...

He'll take himself for a massage if feels like it, has no definitive hobbies like running or cycling (due to above job & young children). He does miss playing golf but can only book a specific tee, no gift vouchers to pay for one. I've got him a Q magazine subscription from the kids, but that's it...

Thanks all, I'm leaning towards the fitbit now. He uses endomondo and it seems to link with that which is great.

Does anyone know about the wrist version vs the clip on one? Is there much difference in functionality?
