Oh dear, think I may be way off the mark with gift for 10 year old girl

I asked DH to pick up two small gifts for children of friends, we usually do token gifts rather than anything big or expensive.

He's done well for the teenaged boy but for the 10 year old girl he's bought a lamp that's a cross between a plasma ball and a lava lamp. Now I would have loved it at that age but I'm not sure whether most girls that age would.

I don't know the girl that well, she's not overly girly and I know she's just had her room redecorated so she might be happy to have a new lamp for it.

Those of you with DDs around that age- what do you think?

I'd say he's done well. DD would have loved one at 10 - still would now at nearly 13 :)

berylbainbridge · 08/12/2015 15:18

Sounds good to me. My non-girly 10 y o dd has 2 lava lamps.

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 08/12/2015 15:18

Sounds good to me too!

babyiwantabump · 08/12/2015 15:19

Would be a big hit here with 11 year old DD !

missmargot · 08/12/2015 15:42

Phew! I am so out of the loop with that age group having a 15yo DSS and a 2yo DS. Thanks for putting my mind at rest Smile

Would be a hit here too Smile

thedevilinside · 08/12/2015 16:03

My ten year old DD would love that, in fact she wants one for Christmas

tassisssss · 08/12/2015 16:05

My 9 year old girl would love that!

RB68 · 08/12/2015 16:21

I would keep the receipt and let Mum know you have it if needs be and not get too precious if she decides to exchange/refund it etc

thebestfurchinchilla · 08/12/2015 16:36

Sounds good. My 11 year old asked for a lava lamp 2 years ago. Still has it. Well done him.

Jw35 · 08/12/2015 16:44

Yes great! My 12 year old wants a disco ball

TheoriginalLEM · 08/12/2015 16:47

Well done that man, my DD would love it and she is very non girly

Grumpyoldblonde · 08/12/2015 17:59

Perfect I reckon, worry not.

Heavenscent86 · 08/12/2015 18:57

I think my nearly 9 year old would love that too. She has butterfly and Swarovski wall stickers for her room for Christmas this year!

cuntycowfacemonkey · 08/12/2015 19:03

DH bought me one for my 23rd birthday. I was a little Hmm but if I'd been 10 I would probably have loved it Grin. To be fair I think he just ran into Woolworths on his way over and grabbed the first thing he found.

In all seriousness I think your DH has chosen well. 10 is a real in between age I know I'm struggling for 10 year old ds

wigglesrock · 08/12/2015 19:24

My 10.5 year old has one on her Christmas list Grin

triceratops1066 · 08/12/2015 19:25

My dd about that age has taken to staring at them when we go into shops!

R0nJ0n · 08/12/2015 19:29

From the tile I thought you were going to say you'd bought something like a singing Elsa doll. A lava lamp would be a great gift for a ten year old girl, full marks to your DH.

missmargot · 08/12/2015 21:04

DH is really pleased with himself now, this might encourage him to take a more active role in Christmas shopping going forwards Grin

Yeah I think that's a great gift and something pretty different and unexpected my ten year old says she'd love it.

OSETmum · 08/12/2015 21:15

Sounds fab to me!

Potterwolfie · 08/12/2015 21:18

Top of 9yo DS' wishlist is a plasma ball, sounds like a popular choice this year!

gleam · 08/12/2015 21:23

That sounds interesting missmargot - do you know where he bought it?

coffeeisnectar · 08/12/2015 21:26

Another owner of a 10 year old dd who would adore this.

GColdtimer · 08/12/2015 21:30

Actually has given me a great idea for my nearly 10 year old!
