I know it's early but I'm thinking of doing mine today. I usually do them on the first Sunday in advent but I'll be busy then, plus I need DD's help as I'm recovering from a broken foot and today is the only time she can help. A few neighbours have theirs up so I won't be the first in the street at least! But am I the first on MN?! Xmas Grin

Probably not. I find decorations going up before December really sad and depressing. I saw two Facebook photos recently where people had them up... I judged. It's like there's nothing else in your life to look forward to.

firstdirect · 27/11/2015 14:37

Dear god no.........

SauvignonBlanche · 27/11/2015 14:38

No, I haven't, it's still November. Confused

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 27/11/2015 14:39

Two lots were put up in my road last week. Wierdos.

🎄

LineyReborn · 27/11/2015 14:40

I think if you get a chance to do them now, and it would be difficult on any other weekend, go for it.

It's not a crime.

Varya · 27/11/2015 14:43

Oooooh No not yet but each to their own.

FromthePinkGlitterySide · 27/11/2015 14:55

We are doing ours this weekend, I normally work Friday, Saturday and Sunday but have this weekend off so I'm taking my opportunity to all do it together. Instead of DH and the DC doing it and ending up with all the decs wonky!

chanelfreak · 27/11/2015 15:00

Ours are up two weeks Shock

We put them up because the DNieces were coming over to us for the Christmas markets. And also because I am a big, fat, glittery Christmas freak. And possibly a weirdo.

So I say go for it OP

hippoherostandinghere · 27/11/2015 15:06

Ours are up and tbh I couldn't give 2 shiny shits what anyone else thinks or does. It's our house, we live here and people rarely visit! There are no rules, you can put them up whenever you want. And if this is a good opportunity with your DD available then do it, you'll not regret it.

BrandNewAndImproved · 27/11/2015 15:08

Two lots on my road and 3 Facebook friends.

No I wouldn't do it, I have put them up the 1st before when the dc were little and I would be excited as I was still a teenager myself.

Now I can't be bothered, they cluttered up my flat and annoyed me last year. For some strange reason I started a traditional on always buying them a snow globe every year and it's not even like I have a fireplace or windowsill that they could be shown off properly. Instead they were all around my TV annoying the shit out of me.

I do have fairy lights in my twiggy vase, and some more on a shelf. That's nice and will do until the kids nag me into getting the decs up.

No not yet ours usually go up 12 days before so around the weekend of the 12th but we are away that weekend this year so will be the weekend afterwards!

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 27/11/2015 15:58

Ours are going up this weekend. We usually wait until the first weekend in dec but we are mad busy next weekend so its now or never. Ours come down new years eve as DD has a birthday in early Jan and they are seriously getting in the way of cleaning by then. I dont like starting the new year with the xmas decs up.

Each to their own i say.

Sparklycat · 27/11/2015 16:00

Tomorrow!!! I can't wait!!!

FromthePinkGlitterySide · 27/11/2015 16:07

I agree with others points about taking them down earlier. Mine go away the day after Boxing Day!

LegoRuinedMyFinances · 27/11/2015 16:11

I know someone who put them up last week - the same person takes them down on boxing day as they are annoying by that point.

Have to admit I love christmas, but only in December, and I put mine up the first or second weekend in, but I feel christmas doesn't start and end on christmas day, it covers the week of christmas up to New Year. Taking them down in that week seems like ending christmas early.

mmgirish · 27/11/2015 16:13

We're putting a ours up this Sunday because we are away for 9 days before Christmas and only get back on the 23rd. So, I want to make the most of it.

SymphonyofShadows · 27/11/2015 17:41

No, because the tree goes in the corner at the bottom of the stairs and we have rashly decided to pull up the stair carpet and paint the stairs. This means lots of sanding, filling, undercoating and painting before the tree can go up. I have bought some nice decs to hang in the window though, including a large led bauble from Habitat that was nearly half price.

curriegirl · 27/11/2015 17:46

Yes but work ones! I put them up this afternoon.

0pheliaSnowBalls · 27/11/2015 18:55

Don't judge but... I did it.

And I'm so glad I did and I am completely without remorse Xmas Grin

We all love to have them up for the whole of December and until twelfth night. It's a long time to have them up but isn't that what Christmas lights are for, to light the darkest days?! Besides, the next time I'd be able to do them would've been well into December, and I would've felt sad without them by then!

They look absolutely lovely. DD and I are sitting here with hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and a stack of syrup waffles, candles lit, and I feel so cosy and festive I could burst!

Ours went up today🎄

Our house is now sporting 4 Christmas treesXmas Grin The dses have mini trees in their bedrooms that I got in the sales, and there is one in the lounge and one in our back room.

By the end of the weekend dh will festoon the place with naff garlands too. Nothing is too tacky for this house.

firstdirect · 28/11/2015 09:32

Don't all the trees die by about the 12th of Dec though?

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 29/11/2015 13:16

Tree is up and beautifully decorated by DH ( i dont have the patience), fireplaces done, candle xmas jar thingys done, bannister garland up. Yay. Depressingly still not feeling very christmassy.

Might make some mince pies with the DC and wrap some presents tonight whilst drinking sherry - that should get the xmas spirit going. And yes i know its still November!

RedToothBrush · 29/11/2015 13:48

I would normally say, not before 1st Dec. However we've put up today as we normally get real tree the first weekend in Dec but we are away next weekend and with a 1 year old toddler we decided to go with a £10 fake affair we had in the loft.

DS loves it. That's all that matters this year.

meditrina · 29/11/2015 14:00

It's Advent Sunday today, so open season.

I won't have decorations up until much later on (after a family birthday) but DD is downstairs making paper chains.
