I know it's early but I'm thinking of doing mine today. I usually do them on the first Sunday in advent but I'll be busy then, plus I need DD's help as I'm recovering from a broken foot and today is the only time she can help. A few neighbours have theirs up so I won't be the first in the street at least! But am I the first on MN?! Xmas Grin

I let dd put ours up. She was really down and it cheered her up.

Ours usually go up first week in December.. But dd1 is back from uni just for this weekend, she then goes back, and we won't see her until right near Christmas.. So we had a lovely day yesterday putting them up, with us all together. Dh dd1 , dd2. The house feels really Christmassy and warm [santa] Star

MTWTFSS · 29/11/2015 15:28

Mine are going up this week when the kids are at school Grin So excited Grin

FellOffMyUnicorn · 29/11/2015 15:30

nope - its still november, putting mine up around the 12/13th weekend

FellOffMyUnicorn · 29/11/2015 15:31

(i love tack though on Christmas stuff)

SteamPunkGoth · 29/11/2015 15:33

Ours are up. Ds is so excited and been waiting for months!

Palomb · 29/11/2015 15:34

I am getting tempted but will wait till next Sunday as I'm going to up get is one of those real IKEA trees and I need to go to decathon to get the kids bikes which is next door. I'll probably get it on Friday and hide it from the kids for a few days.

ClashCityRocker · 29/11/2015 15:49

Dh wanted it up today but I voted for next Sunday. I'm starting to get excited about christmas but it's just slightly too early for me - has to be at least december.

Plus, although dh likes looking at it, he's a pita when it comes to decorating it. He's out for the afternoon next Sunday so I shall have a festive afternoon and he'll come home to a lovely decorated tree.

Lovely trees lumpy

oobedobe · 29/11/2015 15:51

We did our outside lights yesterday (not in UK, plenty already up), which felt kind of early, but come next weekend it will already be the 5th Dec and we will be doing Christmas outings etc and be busier.

At the moment I am just looking forward to getting the tree and decorating it (just not ready to do it), will probably put it up on the 12th, which is still two weeks before Christmas.

My dad would always rush off to buy the biggest tree possible at the last minute and I kind of loved that ta-da last minute Christmas, nowadays there is such a long build up.

Last year I was watching Christmas movies from end of October and had all my shopping done early (and then twitched big time), this year I am holding off and waiting until Dec to get full-on Christmassy. It's working as I have a pleasant 'oh it's December already next week' feeling rather than the 'December is FINALLY here' over anticipation feeling of last year.

KissMyFatArse · 29/11/2015 15:54

Done today! Love it! Judge away!

RhinestoneCowgirl · 29/11/2015 15:58

I'm still trying to declutter and have a good clean before Christmas. Today I tackled the stuff under the stairs and the hallway. Paintwork even got aquick wash down!

DD has birthday on 23 Dec so we tend to let her choose when decs go up, never this early

WipsGlitter · 29/11/2015 16:05

Honestly if just gets easier and earlier every year. I remember as a child waiting to see the trees in houses but it wasn't until well into December that you would begin to see any.

Anyone I know who puts them up early always takes them down on Boxing Day because they are "sick of them" Confused

When I'm in charge of the world no-one will be allowed to put them up until at least the second weekend in December. Grin

AuntieStella · 29/11/2015 16:39

Nothing to judge, kissmyfatarse

It might still be November, but it's Advent Sunday, so good to go.

FixItUpChappie · 29/11/2015 16:45

we put our outdoor lights up last weekend as it was warm out...snowed the next day. still, while I'm glad we don't have to do it in the cold, it feels too early. went to an annual Christmas tree festival yesterday, the kids saw Santa there - again, it just feels too early. So advent calendars will come out Tuesday with the Christmas book basket, but no other decorations till later in the month. I think we will do our tree on the 12th maybe.

DrasticAction · 29/11/2015 18:03

wisp what a depressing way of looking at things!

November and January are the most notoriously hard months for people - with weather, nights dark, grey etc.

Op I am holding off, hoping for second weekend in December purely for the momentum...and build up.

However I leave them up for as long as I want as I hate January.

I have been know to leave up till valentines day Shock sometimes a week in January, sometimes, mid jan and once 4th Jan.

first The tree I buy on 12/13th Jan is in homebase right now. Whether I buy it now or in two weeks, the tree will be the same.

R0nJ0n · 29/11/2015 18:07

We're not putting most of ours up this year Sad. We are going to the USA on the 19th to spend Christmas with DH's parents and I can't bear the thought of getting back home in early January and having to take them all down straight away. I might drape some tinsel around, but there's not going to be a tree.

WipsGlitter · 29/11/2015 18:34

Noooo. Not depressing. I love Christmas I just don't think it needs to last for months. I do think it subliminally puts pressure on people to spend more as well.

AmeliaPeabody · 29/11/2015 19:19

We're starting to put up some winter decorations next week, white and blue winter colours (autumn decorations still up at the moment) but anything Christmas related will be a few days before the 25th.

Flumplet · 29/11/2015 19:26

Did ours yesterday - we got a great big new 7ft artificial tree and it was going to take bloody ages to get all the branches perfect so wanted it out for a reasonable length of time before having to wrestle it back in to its box.

Moomazoo · 29/11/2015 19:32

Hang on..... I thought it was NovemberHmm

MsJamieFraser · 29/11/2015 21:57

ours is up, we dont have a free weekend now for another 6 weeks, so the tree went up today, ds2 is anaphylactic to dust mite and even tho I put the tree and decorations in the freezer last weekend, he has become ill tonight and needed his nebuliser Hmm

Thankfully ds is dealing with him... I've poured a glass f wine.

LetGoOrBeDragged · 29/11/2015 22:28

Did mine this afternoon. Dd has been ill, so I wanted to do something to take her mind off it a bit.
Don't feel at all Christmassy though. I used to feel really excited but I'm just not feeling it anymore Sad
