Or just the children?

Just curious about how other people do things.

We do for each other (DH), but they are our gifts to each other.

We also contribute to one for my MIL taking over from my FIL since he died 7years ago.

LBOCS2 · 31/10/2015 00:03

DH or DSis do one for me, I do one for DSis. DH didn't grow up with the tradition, and DM used to do one for each of us every Christmas except she died last year so DSis and I have taken over for each other.

LibidinousSwine · 31/10/2015 04:51

Yes!!
I DH and I do them for DS, DM and DSDad and DM does them for us. We open them together downstairs next to the fire and with mugs of tea, carols and bacon sandwiches. Am glossing over the fact that my DP's don't have a fire so this year will be a fireless Christmas

FishWithABicycle · 31/10/2015 06:26

We do. Because we have been very good all year. If one Christmas I didn't get a stocking it would mean I had been very very bad.

Stockings mainly contain small low-value treats and things that household money would be spent on anyway like pants and pyjamas, with perhaps one or two more substantial items. Main presents go under the tree and are from people not from Santa. We have to keep separate stocks of Christmas wrapping paper so that santander doesn't use the same paper as what is under the tree.

FishWithABicycle · 31/10/2015 06:27

Silly autocorrect turning santa into santander.

caravanista13 · 31/10/2015 06:34

I still do one for my adult children and have added their partners in as they came along. The stockings have a selection of little treats - we never pretended that the main presents were from Santa.

Chrisinthemorning · 31/10/2015 07:10

Yes, I do DH one and he does me one. My mum does Boxing Day stockings - a joint one for me and DH and one for DS.
I'm doing a stocking for my Auntie this year. She's a sweetie and always gives lovely presents. She's single with 2 grown up sons who don't do her a stocking, so I thought I'd do her one.
I'm putting a mini bottle of champagne in the top with a label- open me first. So far I've got luxury chocs, a Cath Kidston Xmas mug, mini Liz Earle cleanse and polish, a nice scarf and a Xmas room scent. Need a few more bits.
Stockings are the best bit :)

sandgrown · 31/10/2015 07:19

Chris. That sounds a beautiful stocking.so thoughtful.

HapShawl · 31/10/2015 07:22

Yes, everyone does. My parents do them for each other too. I was very lucky and got three one year (from dp, my parents and PIL). That was a bit embarrassing tbh

Boleh · 31/10/2015 07:22

Yep, my mum has always done them for my sister and I even after we grew up and moved out. She now also does one for DH and DH and I do one for each other. DH hadn't had one since he was a child and was rather baffled about my excitement over it all but absolutely stepped up and did a great job when he was told we were doing them for each other :-)

PrincessHairyMclary · 31/10/2015 07:26

DD and I have a stocking (because she made me one).

We normally celebrate Christmas at my parents house with my brother.

We still all get a huge pile of presents but we are a small family and there's only 5 of us to buy for.

elQuintoConyo · 31/10/2015 07:31

Too right we do!

When I was pregnant, I made stockings for: me, DH, DS, DM, DF, Fil, DGM all with embroidered names (mum and dad subsequently divorced, so I made one recently for his lovely new partner).

DH and I put in some chocs, a satsuma and nuts, then a couple of dmall things - a cd or whatever. Otherwise we don't exchange presents, we just pool money to by something for the house, this year it's dining chairs Hmm how exciting!

I didn't have a stocking growing up and I think it's nice for DS to see us giving each other gifts.

We've been doing this for the past 5 years, so I'm not sure why anyone would think it was a "thing" this year.

DansonslaCapucine · 31/10/2015 07:31

No. I didn't even get one as a child. Santa filled our pillow cases.

Wait a minute, I think mil made us a joint one but we don't put presents in it.

Pengweng · 31/10/2015 07:32

DH and I don't do one for each other but my mum still does them for us. (both early thirties). It is my favourite part and keeps me in socks, pants and soap until next year.

wanderings · 31/10/2015 07:37

Oh yes, stockings for each other, as well as gifts. When DP prepares and wraps my presents, I'm allowed to listen to him wrapping, and sometimes feel them! I see this as a bit of bonus excitement before Christmas itself. (But this doesn't mean I get to know in advance what my gifts are, because even though I'm in the room with DP, I am blindfolded until the presents are wrapped and hidden away.)

NigelLikesSalad · 31/10/2015 07:37

Nope, we haven't for years. My mum used to do one for us both as we were there Christmas day and I had to train her out of it as she used to stress about filling it and it was always just 'bits' to open and not useful stuff so it seemed a shame to get stressed out over! She and dad still do a stocking for each other though which is quite cute.

wannabestressfree · 31/10/2015 07:39

I do roughly 20.stockings and its my favourite Part of christmas. I pick up little bits all year round and tailor them to the person...

GladysTheGolem · 31/10/2015 07:46

Yep. Love doing DH's stocking, he does mine.
We usually have a list each for a few main presents so stockings are always unexpected treats!

CakeNinja · 31/10/2015 07:46

No, just dc get them.
I couldn't find enough small things that I think dp would like to put in a stocking!
The dc have huge sacks and the best thing about Christmas is buying their stocking presents.
Couldn't be dealing with looking for stuff for dp too. Pants and socks aren't really a present imo!

Impatientwino · 31/10/2015 07:47

My DM still does one for me and now for my DH. It's my favourite thing about Christmas! Always lots of useful little things, chocolate, wine and some things from when I was a child. I'll be terribly sad when she stops doing it!

Rememberallball · 31/10/2015 08:08

This is my second Christmas with my now DH and we are just chatting about doing stockings for each other, dsd (22) and dm as its her first Christmas without df. We will scour pound shops and the like for bits and bobs but also put in a few treats that are a little more expensive.

chanie44 · 31/10/2015 08:11

Yes. Me and OH and me have stockings instead of main presents (we have so many people to buy for, we get each other small gifts which go in our stockings).

I've had my stocking since I was born and I bought OH a stocking when we moved in together. When the children came along, I did the same for them.

FetaComplete · 31/10/2015 08:20

Santa brings the stockings in our house..for adults, children and dogs. No age limit.

toptomatoes · 31/10/2015 08:24

Yes. In fact, I get 2 - one from DH and one from my parents. My sisters and I do stockings for our parents. My in-laws are staying at ours for Christmas this year so I'll do them a stocking each as well. It's normally funky socks, fancy toothbrush, snacks/treat food, fruit, nice soap, lip balm kind of stuff - cheap, useful, small.
