They're usually a fiver in waterstones or wh smiths but I desperately want to cut back this year.

Do cheap paper advent even exist Confused? (I won't use amazon by the way).

No. It drives me mad, I'd love a "proper" advent calendar but I've searched and can't find one for less than a fiver (which is a daft amount to spend on something that's going to end up in the bin IMO) in fact, I've never seen one that 'cheap' they're normally 8/9/10 pound

BakewellStart · 20/10/2015 09:30

No. I have the same problem. I wish pound shops would sell them rather than the shitty totally non xmas Barbie/Peppa Pig themed chocolate ones!

Will be watching this thread in the hope someone somewhere has found cheap ones.

The only thing I can suggest is buying them after Xmas from Smiths etc in the sale, ready for next year.

TheWoollybacksWife · 20/10/2015 09:39

This site has a decent range to choose from, although the cheapest seems to be around the £3 mark, so still expensive once you add in postage costs.

I know my church have got Christmas items including advent calendars in, but I have no idea what they are charging. I could find out if you want.

BrianCoxReborn · 20/10/2015 09:42

(Sorry to hijack thread OP)

Good idea Woolly, I'll see if any local churches are selling them.

Chelazla · 20/10/2015 10:02

Hi!!! They have a make your own one in the works which is 59p but apart from that cheapest I've seen is £4 in John Lewis.

Angie1978 · 20/10/2015 11:09

We get one every year from the piety stall at back of the church

Angie1978 · 20/10/2015 11:10

Sorry pressed go! They are usually £2.00

megletthesecond · 20/10/2015 13:35

Church! Excellent idea. We were planning to go to the kids service next month. I'll ask the Rev and see if they can get hold of them. I know they'll have the charity xmas cards out any day now.

Second (or third) the idea to get them from church or from one of those charity Christmas shops which some churches run from about November onwards. Otherwise, you need to get more organised and buy them after Christmas like I do and then put them away with cards, crackers etc until next year! I have several Oxfam or Oxfam-style ones which I bought for 99p or £1.50.

Forestdreams · 20/10/2015 22:23

Our local old-fashioned paper shop has them at a reasonable cost, as does our stationers. Both independents.

you could try Phoenix cards too.

Noideatobehad · 21/10/2015 15:03

hi, just spotted this one for £2 on matalan's website
here

tumpymummy · 21/10/2015 16:14

I have bought just paper/cardboard ones from Phoenix before, but you need to find someone that is a card seller I think. Lots of schools have someone that does orders. Although to be honest they are probably more expensive than the chocolate advent calendars in poundland etc.

RiverTam · 21/10/2015 16:31

Church. I always get proper old school glittery advent calendars there, none of this chocolate minions advent calendar shit.

Polyethyl · 21/10/2015 16:33

Medicine Gallery, 26 Thurloe Street, South Kensington Station. They sell loads of paper advent calendars.

Polyethyl · 21/10/2015 16:33

Sorry that should be medici gallery.

Oxfam often have non-chocolate ones with a nativity scene, as well as nativity scenes plus fairtrade chocolate. M and S have Nativity plus choc for £2 (in the buy one get one half price deal)

icklekid · 23/10/2015 05:36

Yes to charity shops (new not second hand obviously!) I'm sure oxfam had paper last year like previous poster said!

RedRaw · 25/10/2015 14:59

Dobbies garden centres have a good selection, but I'm not sure of prices.

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/10/2015 15:53

I bought this one in church this morning for £2.75. It makes me wonder how much of a mark-up is added by shops like Waterstones and WHSmith as I assume church aren't selling them at cost.

yearofthehorse · 25/10/2015 15:55

They have them in Poundland. They cost a pound.

BiddyPop · 28/10/2015 13:00

I was going to say Church or local bible store.

ChristmasZombie · 28/10/2015 15:28

I saw some in Notcutts garden centre last week. They were £6.99. I may have a sworn under my breath at that.

moosemama · 28/10/2015 17:18

Lots of traditional advent calendars on this site - these are card sized for £2.99 each.

They sell them on the charity stand at our local library as well.

moosemama · 28/10/2015 17:25

Quite a few from £2.50 up here.

magnummum · 29/10/2015 16:57

I've just bought some lovely pop up ones in Clintons for £3
