isn't that a bit young for her? It looks like something a 5 year old would play with. I've asked her if it isn't a bit babyish and she tells me that EVERYONE likes sylvanians at school "even people in year 6"

Anyone here an expert? Waddya think?!

i liked to play with dolls houses until i was about 12, adults still play with them! i feel quite pleased that your dd is interested

WonderCod · 03/12/2006 22:11

lol@animals in tiered peticoats

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 03/12/2006 22:13

My 4yo has got it. It's a monument to OCD. It has about 1500 microscopic parts - soap in a little soap dish, a little magazine rack with magazines in it, little logs about 1mm long for the fire, teeny toothbrushes - it's a fucking nightmare. DON'T DO IT!

Made our first foray into the world of Sylvanian Families at Christmas last year. I thought dd was going to be thrilled, and that it would provide many hours of fun/play. But it has received limited/sporadic attention, and so far has not warranted the price or the space it takes up. Maybe as someone else said, she'll get into it as she gets older and the cuteness registers more.

robinia · 03/12/2006 22:38

Dd who is 10 put it on her CHristmas list - which only contained three items. I opted for the other two but with a small SF mouse family for her stocking.

Troutpout · 03/12/2006 22:57

dd (nearly 4) likes the bits she has...but my friends daughter (nearly 10) has a huge collection and still wants more...and loads of the girls in her year still like it. I reckon it's one of those ones that last ages ...they just play with it differently perhaps.

kseaj · 03/12/2006 23:30

brought dd who is 4 willow hall for xmas £70 argos it had 2 figures and 2 sets of furniture kitchen and bedroom. Have just spent another £70 this weekend to fill the rest of the rooms in the house and to buy more figures. I got the dark brown rabbit family (not sure what their called) plus a baby. Very expensive I only have the one girl so no one to hand it down to hope she plays with it for a long time way past the age of 8.

I bought some Sylvanian stuff secondhand from a friend years ago. Dd still plays with it and she's 19yo!!!! We've added plenty more over the years and have never paid full price. I don't know if the Sylvanian club still exists but that was fun, pics of people's vast collections of 'Sylvanianna', cheap offers and a card on the child's birthday.

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 03/12/2006 23:45

We've got the Rose of Sylvania barge and the childrens playground too. The boys love it, but I find the little bitty parts drive me round the bend.

robinpud · 03/12/2006 23:54

Hmm.. what about making her own house from a shoebox?? Am I the only tightfisted mother who has made her dd do that? ( she does now have a house for them and it is on its way to Oz)

Ps Love the reemerging geomag story pph!!!!

PrincessPeaHead · 04/12/2006 10:31

well went to tkmaxx and bought./... the primrose nursery! they didn't have willow hall. but it was 19 instead of 29. so either I'll give her that instead, or give her both but less furniture for willow hall or get her willow hall and save the primrose nursery for her birthday.....

good call though allie, thanks!

Great thread. Have been pondering Sylvanian families for my 6yo dd. She plays loads with little animals but rarely with dolls or dolls houses.

off to TKMaxx later today.

EniDeepMidwinter · 04/12/2006 10:44

pph dd1 has JUST asked for bloody silvanian families from father xmas (despite having ds and julip horse already unknown to her )

she is 7 and apparently there is a bit of a craze on them

have Neil and Christine Hamilton been mentioned - they are otters I think (v odd)

EniDeepMidwinter · 04/12/2006 10:45

nintendo ds that is not a 'ds'

AlgernonGetYerTubaOut · 04/12/2006 10:49

I love the pisstake names. V funny

DD got them for Christmas last year. In retrospect I think she was too young for them (she was 3). She is now 4 and plays with them a little more but it is more just taking the clothes off and putting them on rather than actual interaction between the creatures etc.

SF came out when I was a kid and so I am a child of the original SF generation . I had loads of the bits and bobs (in fact I think my Mum still has most of it at her house) and I played with it very regularly up to about 10 years old.

Gillian76 · 04/12/2006 10:54

We got this for DD2 (5) last year. Cost a fortune with all the bits. Argos had one with furniture sets included at the time but it was always out of stock. Mailorderexpress is another place to look. They have quite a selection

Gillian76 · 04/12/2006 10:56

here with 45 pieces of furniture . Good luck finding it in stock!

Gillian76 · 04/12/2006 11:03

they have it in stock at my local. Typical when we needed it last year!

AlgernonGetYerTubaOut · 04/12/2006 11:05

Also in stock at my local

scatterbrain · 04/12/2006 11:10

My dd wants Oakwood Manor - apparently the bunk beds can't go on top of each other in Willow Hall !! According to her best friend anyway !

Am trying to persuade dd that the Sylvanians would like to move into the ELC dolls house - three storey - as it is a much nicer house !

AlgernonGetYerTubaOut · 04/12/2006 11:11

I got a bargain last year from a sylvanian site. It was a house, should have been £45 but was £29.99. Bargain. But it doesn't light up etc like the Willow thingummy

Gillian76 · 04/12/2006 11:11

Our bunks do in Willow Hall. What does she say the problem is?

scatterbrain · 04/12/2006 11:13

Slopy ceilings !!

But if your bunks do go up - I might go and get her a Willow Hall from Argos !

Beccarolloveragain · 04/12/2006 11:19

PPH my DD (7) got a DS and Primrose nursery for her birthday!! Both played with equally, she has really enjoyed the SF stuff ( and is quite an old 7 IYSWIM) and is asking FC for more!

WonderCod · 04/12/2006 11:21
