My 8 yo dd has asked for Sylvanian Families Willow Hall for xmas

isn't that a bit young for her? It looks like something a 5 year old would play with. I've asked her if it isn't a bit babyish and she tells me that EVERYONE likes sylvanians at school "even people in year 6"

Anyone here an expert? Waddya think?!

Wow £19.99 is a fab price! If you can't get it then try john lewis using code prima106aug - Gives you £10 off £50 - it only works on new email addresses though.

PrincessPeaHead · 03/12/2006 18:23

well willow hall plus hawthorn family, plus hawn=thorn baby twins, plus furniture sets for bathroom, kitchen, living room, bedroom and nursery comes to £151.

Just so as you know

I think she is going to have to go for the "sparsely furnished" look until her birthday in March.

She is getting a Nintendo DS from us anyway, so this is proving to be rather an expensive xmas for her!

Lots of ours were sparsely furnished at first - lots of scope for mini diy - matchbox chests of drawers, table from a jam pot lid on cotton reel, with floor length cloth etc.
And don't buy the twins yet - Mummy Hhawthorn can be expecting, & they can share DD's birthday

PrincessPeaHead · 03/12/2006 18:28

oh john lewis is much cheaper than the sylvanian families website.

brilliant re the twins.

yes, some improv will be required I think.
So family, hall, kitchen bathroom and bedroom is £103 from JL. Hmmm.

We've just bought it for DD's 8th birthday, including the furniture it was £100. I've kept all the boxes so we can put it on Ebay when she gets fed up with it (probably around January).

AllieAndTheIvy · 03/12/2006 18:29

soupy, you also get a free rat

SecondhandRose · 03/12/2006 18:30

We've got the gypsy caravan too and Byron with his toilet. She also loves Playmobil and has the Noah's Ark.

She won't play with dolls though, loves the computer and Nintendo DS and is a very girly girl.

tamum · 03/12/2006 18:31

That is inspired about the twins. Sorry, I should have said that the Sylvanian website isn't the cheapest, it's just good for browsing. That TK Maxx price is really good, isn't it?

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 03/12/2006 18:33

@ free rat.

AllieAndTheIvy · 03/12/2006 18:36

it's a bargain, i bought if for my niece for her 5th birthday. she also has some "vintage" stuff that was given to er by her dads secretary (who is 19 and kept it all those years)

PrincessPeaHead · 03/12/2006 18:44

so it was the whole willow hall from tkmaxx for £19.99? Really????

I have a HUGE one near me, will go and check it out tomorrow, that would be a bargain

If she wants it and you can afford it then get it. Because it would be kind of you and because she would easily get a hundred quids worth of fun out of it. I think she would play with it up to secondary school age.

I'm going to TK Maxx and will flog them on Ebay if they have some

tamum · 03/12/2006 18:56

Soupy you owe it to yourself and Babydragon. Hell, I might go myself at this rate- she can have a Sylvanian Housing Estate.

kama, I completely agree.

notreallyhereDee · 03/12/2006 18:59

ooo i wish my dd's would like this stuff.

maybe next year. i have fond memories of syvanian families from my own childhood. [sighs wistfully]

tamum · 03/12/2006 19:00

One of them will, surely, NRHDee? That's the big advantage of having 3 girls FWIW dd plays with them loads more now than she did when she was 4 or 5.

foxinsocks · 03/12/2006 19:00

wow at that TkMaxx price

notreallyhereDee · 03/12/2006 19:01

i'm sure one of them will, but have a feeling it will be dd3. so a long time to wait.

might start stockpiling now as well

PrincessPeaHead · 03/12/2006 19:04

btw all of you planning to go to Swindon's new big TK Maxx.....

I'M GETTING THERE FIRST! So bog off

we have a small crappy tk maxx staffed by teenagers like Lauren from cathertine tait and nazi-like managers who treat you like dog poo. it was in a box about 1ft and a half square. i'm not au fait with "the family sylvanian" so sorry if this is not the right thing
