Christmas morning breakfast

This might sound utterly bonkers but when I was growing up we always had pork pie, cold meats and pickle for breakfast on Christmas morning. I always wondered where this tradition came from as no one else I knew apart from my family did it. My mum was from Newcastle and my dad from Warwickshire and I never knew which one brought/continued this tradition (I'm assuming it's what one of them grew up with).

When I worked in Leicester for a while I met one other person who had pork pie for Christmas Day breakfast but everyone else has always looked at me like I'm bonkers!

So in a nut shell does anyone else have this breakfast on the big day or ever heard of others having it?

A family we knew also had pork pie for xmas breakfast, not sure about the other things. We lived in Warwickshire - no idea if they were from there originally though.

My Mum was from Newcastle and she thought they were odd to do this so I guess it might be a warwickshire thing.

My DP thinks this is great idea and is happy to have pork pie for breakfast. I think I'd rather have a selection box but guessing pork pie will be on the table again this Christmas Day breakfast!

Friends of mine always had pickled herring.

One of our close friends has this. Which made life interesting when they spent Christmas with us in the decidedly non-UK country we moved to. Poor man, we never did track one down for him- not for want of trying.

We have those chilled crossiants n pan au choc you bake yourselves and then mid morning a brunch cooked breakfast as always fitted in with little people lunch time and then they would nap n Xmas dinner would be around 3.30 ready for their tea time however my 5yr old obv no longer naps n 10mths old thinks napping is for the weak!!

It sounds delicious! We're boring and have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with nice bread.

It's a midland tradition, I have a friend in Sutton Coldfield who does the same breakfast on Xmas morning

After a few years of buying nice deli stuff and never getting round to eating it, we do 'continental breakfast' before opening the presents under the tree on Christmas. Children's stockings can be opened first thing though. It's easy enough to open a few packets of cold meats and cheese, no cooking required and everyone can have as much or as little as they want. Might have to add pork pie to the table now

Not sure about the breakfast thing but Stand Pie was always a Xmas tradition in our house growing up, along with a game pie.

Mum doesn't bother with the stand pie anymore since we all moved out, but I might surprise them with one this year.

Stand Pie, is a Yorkshire term for a huge pork pie.
