Heck the advent calander starts on Friday and so far I have only come up with 3 of the forfeits (clearly not on form this year.

They are:
Name 4 reindeer
Sing a Christmas Song
Name 5 carols

Only 21 more to go. Help Please!

what did my true love get on the 3rd day?

wheresthehamster · 26/11/2006 11:24

4 3-letter words from christmas.
4 3-letter words from stocking.
A carol with someone's name in the title.
A song with Santa in the title.
What was given on the 5th day of christmas? 3rd? 7th?
How many birds altogether were given?
Name two animals in the traditional nativity scene.
Name the presents from the 3 wise men.
(Am enjoying this - might do something similar for mine).

FrannyandZooey · 26/11/2006 11:26

What age are the forfeits for?

Imitate a turkey

Do 5 star jumps

Think of 3 words that rhyme with "yule"

Pretend to be Father Christmas

Think up the next line of this poem:
At Christmas time the thing I like the best

Name 3 plants or trees associated with Christmas

Name 3 animals or birds associated with Christmas

Katherine · 26/11/2006 12:35

Wow these are fab. Thank-you.
They are 3, 6 & 8. They take it in turns but its usually a team effort.

Thank-you all.
Love the turkey impression, the poem and the make words out of ones.

this is great - might steal it for my chidlren if you don't mind. Probably should do my bit too, hmm....

-what gifts did the three wise men bring?

-name three things you need to make christmas pudding.

-sing jingle bells backwards.

-name three things that glitter (getting hard now..)

Katherine · 26/11/2006 13:28

I've adapted the 3 wise men one...

What did the three wise men bring and
What do you think they would bring today?

Should be interesting.
Nearly there. Might use them in the crackers too.

Yes, love the idea of looking for items beginning with the letters in CHRISTMAS. Have put that down.
Another one I've done is asking them to work out Christmas songs from the initial letters.
E.g.
WWYAMC
WTKOOA

nikkie · 27/11/2006 20:38

Love your 24th Californiafraukeep the kids busy for ages!

Katherine · 28/11/2006 09:36

Blimey Wheresthehamster - good idea but hard. Or is it just cos my head is so foggy this morning.

I've added a few more:

  • make a snowflake out of paper.
  • tell the story of the first christmas in less than a minute
  • name 5 christmas foods
  • Make something to hang on the christmas tree
  • think of 3 names for father christmas (had 5 originally but then couldn't think of that many!)

The more practical ones can be for once school breaks up

wheresthehamster · 28/11/2006 10:07

My kids are a bit older so I don't want them to have it too easy!
I've also done Christmas foods and other names for Santa.
And 5 things that hang on the tree.
I like the make a snowflake idea. I'm done now I think!

Katherine · 28/11/2006 10:15

Oh and hum a christmas carol that everyone has to guess.

Hamster how many names did you get for Santa?

OP posts:
wheresthehamster · 28/11/2006 11:11

The only ones I could think of were
Father Christmas
Santa Claus
St. Nicolas
Kris Kringle
Have you got any others?

Katherine · 28/11/2006 13:58

Father Christmas, Santa Claus, St Nicholas, Sinter Klaas (Dutch, became santa claus), Pere Noel (french) Black Peter (morocco) and found a reference to Pa Norsk for Scandinavia. Maybe its a good one for older ones after all. Will have to make sure we do this one on a school day. That will impress the teacher!

OP posts:
Katherine · 28/11/2006 13:59

Oh and apparently Russia has Grandfather Frost!

OP posts:
wheresthehamster · 28/11/2006 15:28

Cripes, I don't think mine will get them!
Although I had forgotten about Pere Noel.
Right, am going to get started about which to put on what days.

firemaiden · 28/11/2006 15:57

Can I just check how this works? We have a little advent calendar on which you can open a drawer for each day of the month. At the moment, each drawer is filled with a little decoration (gold-sprayed acorn, silver sixpence etc) that the person who opens the drawer then hangs on a little home-made, silver tree. Under the forfeit system, would each drawer contain one of the challenges below instead/with a decoration/mini-present?

Katherine · 28/11/2006 16:27

Thats the idea yep
I started doing this once I had 3 kids. Before that I used to put a chocolate in the drawer but now there isn't room. Now they have to do the forfeit to earn the chocolate. Its usually a joint effort anyway
