I thought I had better start a new thread in case the old one falls over at 1000 posts.

First of all I would like to say a big thank you to all those who have helped make this a huge success Thanks to all of you, life will be a little bit easier for some of our MNetters this year!

Firstly all of the MNetters - without you this would only have been a pipe dream! Givers and receivers - all take a bow

Then the corporates:
GLTC - for going well beyond the call of duty
Hazell -www.verko.co.uk- for her most generous offer of christmas trees - I hope you join in and make some new friends here
Great expectations - a lovely company with wonderful fairtraded toys and again help beyond what was expected.
LCC - to Jaysmummy for her crafty goodies and warm hearted support
www.thesweetiestop.co.uk - for their generous support

And of course it goes almost without saying, MNHQ!

**

How it works:

You email me:

[email protected]

as a giver or receiver. If a receiver I will ask for a bit more information to find a good match for you. If a giver I will find someone for you to send your gift to.

All matches to be done by 30 November (did I really promise that)

All gifts to be posted by 15 December (at the latest).

OP posts:

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 27/11/2006 11:36

j&r's mummy...
have you received more than one gift?! i dont think i could handle getting another! i was in floods when i got boots vouchers the other day!

Zog · 27/11/2006 11:40

Eviematildasmum - roughly how much do you want to spend on him? I'll give you some ideas

asantaforYG · 27/11/2006 11:42

Eviematildasmum I can only tell you what my boy liked a year ago, top trumps, football cards, anything to do with the planets, umm I'm sure others will tell you more. HTH

Eviematildasmum · 27/11/2006 11:44

Dunno, depends what there is - would hate him to open it and think " oh no how cxxxs is that!

Eviematildasmum · 27/11/2006 11:45

Thanks A - I like the planets thing.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 27/11/2006 11:47

Lady - I have been matched with more than one Mner yes, and OMG it is unbelievable.

I cant stop crying, the kindness is so overwhelming.

I LOVE YOU xxx

Zog · 27/11/2006 11:52

There's a really good build your own planets mobile that you can get - I'll see if I can find a link....

here you go

My ds would love something like this. Otherwise there are lots of science type kits aged 8+ around at the moment which are great fun and not too dear

Eviematildasmum · 27/11/2006 11:54

Brilliant - your a star! (no pun intended!)

Zog · 27/11/2006 11:57

Do you think this is an idea that we could roll out all year round? For example, my "receiver" has kids that are perfect ages for me to pass clothes and toys on to that mine have outgrown - all my friends locally have kids the same ages or older, so I tend to pass it all on to the charity shop but I'd much rather give it to someone on here as an ongoing thing?

Have been wondering about this for a while - what does anyone think?

Amumsnetfriend · 27/11/2006 11:59

As an anonymous giver (I'm a bit shy ) it is so lovely to read the responses from the receivers. My year's been cr@p in other ways but I'm fortunate that affording christmas isn't an issue for us.

flutterbee · 27/11/2006 11:59

I've just sent my e-mail to be a giver. I am really looking forward to sending something out, it will only be something small but I really wanted to contribute.

We are completely broke this year (as some of you will know from my 6 weeks without heating or hot water saga) but luckily for us DS has just turned 1 so he is very easy (and affordable) to please. I really really feel for those of you that have older children and want to praise Soapbox for organising all of this.

StSoapbox take a bow please

mummyhill · 27/11/2006 12:01

I have lso been matched with more than 1 and am sat here typing one hanede with baby boy asleep on my lap crying cause I am so touched at the kindness of others. Lapinrose I am you midland mum.

| am still waiting to hear who I am sending to.

xmasmummy · 27/11/2006 12:13

eviematildasmum, my son is nearly 8 so this may help. i would say he is into anything sharks, power rangers, pirates of the caribbean, and prob footie. hope this helps as most 8 year old boys are similar i think.

xmasmummy · 27/11/2006 12:30

bump to top xx

faeriemum · 27/11/2006 12:32

i thought it would be nice to 'give' my givers a face to the names..so here you are...the little boy that you are so kindly helping this year....

asantaforYG · 27/11/2006 12:33

my DS got interested in chess last year too HTH

PinkTinsel · 27/11/2006 12:48

PinkTinsel · 27/11/2006 12:49

if i remember my cousin at 8 it was mostly robots of various sizes and dvds and pc games

lapinrose · 27/11/2006 12:55

mummyhill I have emailed you

2nervesnapartridgeinapeartree · 27/11/2006 13:00

Question
Do I give my real name or mumsnet name or no name on the gifts I am just about to send?
I am in work so no time to read the whole thread and just about to use lunch hour to post the stuff.

I need a definitive answer please, as I am very undecided.
thanks
