... what would you do?

'Fess, keep the other one for yourself, or risk double the amount being debited from your B/card?

faeriemum · 24/11/2006 13:16

wait and see if it gets debited twice

ParanoidAndroid · 24/11/2006 13:16

Sorry, I'd 'fess up ....

madmarchhare · 24/11/2006 13:16

Email Soapy

Gobbledigook · 24/11/2006 13:17

Wait and see if you are charged.

I would not fess up. Their mistake, your gain. Especially if it's a big store like JL, M&S, Debenhams.

Naughty I know, but that's what I'd do.

2nervesleft · 24/11/2006 13:17

Chech my email confirmation and delivery note to see how many I was being charged for... if only one I would keep it.

MamaG · 24/11/2006 13:18

I'd keep it

2nervesleft · 24/11/2006 13:19

What is it?
Something you and your mum would like?

Aero · 24/11/2006 13:24

This happened to me in the summertime. Woolies sent me four portable DVD players instead of the one I ordered.

I called them and they were very grateful and sent someone to collect them back. I had my delivery charge refunded (not much I know, but at least my conscience is clear). The packer who made the mistake could potentially get in trouble over this, possibly even lose his/her job.

FireFaerie · 24/11/2006 13:24

large companies are insured for things like this, so for that reason, i have to confess, id probably keep it. win/win situation

earlgrey · 24/11/2006 13:25

Why email soapy

It was a rather nice cashmere cardigan ... and I quite fancy one too. And it's my colour!

Trouble is, H pays B/c bill. I can't even see it. So I won't know.

And, ahem, it was JL.

OP posts:
Twiglett · 24/11/2006 13:26

I'd phone them and ask them to pick it up

earlgrey · 24/11/2006 13:26

The bill that is, not the cardi.

OP posts:
Gobbledigook · 24/11/2006 13:26

JL? Keep it then. They made a mistake with an order of mine last Christmas - it worked in my favour and I kept schtum.

A much smaller business I'd fess up, but not for JL.

Haha!

Twiglett · 24/11/2006 13:27

and the difference between keeping something you haven't paid for and walking into a store and stealing it is.....?

earlgrey · 24/11/2006 13:28

Twiglett, of all people I thought you might be on my side!

OP posts:
FrivolentDemon · 24/11/2006 13:28

Big companies - I go with keeping (was the invoice in with it - if only listed once then you should only be billed once)

Twiglett · 24/11/2006 13:28

me?

what has ever made you think I advocate dishonesty?

earlgrey · 24/11/2006 13:28

T, I know

That they posted it to you, so subconsciously they want you to have it.

They are giving you a gift, you aren't shovin it in your pocket and dodging guards.

Yeah, I know I'm a terrible person.

Twiglett · 24/11/2006 13:30

yeah .. I know you know

and it is tempting of course

but that's what makes it doubly wrong

just because its easy to keep it doesn't mean its right

and you'll lose more integrity than you will gain by getting a free cardi

mrsratty · 24/11/2006 13:32

This happened to us with a modem.
We ordered it and it had left the warehouse though did not reach the courier, lost in no mans land. We were quickly sent another one. When it arrived I had to sign for it. A couple of weeks later a very grumpy courier delivered another one to me, when I told him I had already recieved it he said "do you want it or not" and shoved it in my hands. I didn't have to sign for that one and it was the original.

earlgrey · 24/11/2006 13:34

T, just wanted an opinion, that's all.

Don't think anything else.

It was John Lewis, and I'm finding it hard to get presents this year.

But you're right.

It's stealing.

Sorry.
