... what would you do?

'Fess, keep the other one for yourself, or risk double the amount being debited from your B/card?

and always let your conscience be your guide

Some companies won't bother collecting it - its not worth their while.

I had this with Dell when it was MY mistake and I ordered the wrong cartridge for my printer at £50 they just sent me the right one and said not to bother sending the other one back.

Unforetunately I told my mum this when she had been sent something extra from Blooming Marvellous (a big play mat) and she rang them, they kept her on the phone for ages trying to decide what to do and then said they would come and get it....

The horrible bit in me would say keep it.

The sceptical face in me would wait.

The honest thing would be to return it.

I'd call them & let them know - they can either collect it or send you a returns slip so you don't have to pay postage. That's what I did with Letterbox who, unlike Aero's experience with Woolies, did NOT sound grateful. I, too, was concerned that some poor packer might have the £30 deducted from their wages.

I went into dotty p's one day and purchased a few things.. a green top, a cardi, some beads & a hat. She give me the total and I handed over my student ID card (10% discount!!!!) So, anyway, she made some kinda mistake with the till and had to put it all through again... the childminder call me on my mobile and I took the call, handed over 2 £20 notes and getting change whilst on the phone...
I got home... saw that the cardi alone was £35!!!!!!! They had totalled everything else up, & not addes the £35 for the cardi!!

Did I go back and admit to it??? Did I hell!! I wear it now, it is still referred to as "my free cardi" NOT my fault... and if I hadn't looked at the label on cardi I never would have noticed the price of it and realised, I just assumed the discount off with the student card was great!!!!!!!

Yep, know you're all right and have 'phoned them.

He's going to call me back.

Miss that ruffled cardi I could have had, though.

Bollocks, FF.

I wish I'd read your post before 'phoning them!

It did occur to me that if a packer put two things in a package instead of one then telling the company would simply draw their attention to the packers mistake...

xmasmummy · 24/11/2006 14:11

Small business id own up like a shot. Large business id keep quiet.

B & Q & Tescos have made mistakes in the past and we have kept the stuff......why should we queue for 15 minutes to tell them their staff have made a mistake - they should pay them more then they might be more motivated to get it right!!
