Dd will be 8 soon and I need some ideas for presents. She loved all her Xmas pressies - she got

Snow glow elsa
Djeco pens
Bright eyes blanket
Clothes for her Gotz Hannah

Can't remember what else!

She loves arts and crafts and was thinking of a Sprayza blow pens set or Science Museum make your own crystals.

Any ideas?

She loved a decorate your own handbag it was from the entertainer and comes with a swirly black & white pattern you colour in & stick jewels on.
Also a watch from smiggle which you press and the time is displayed but otherwise looks like a bracelet.

A cabbage patch kid.

A password journal ( nieces 7 & 9 plus dds 7,6 & 4 all love this)

A stereo and audio CDs.

Anna & Elsa Toddler dolls
Orb Factory mosaics

My dd is only 6, but I can imagine that Scratch Art notes would appeal just as much to an arts-and-crafts-loving 8yo!

wume did you buy Djeco stuff from Bright Minds?

We have sleeping queens already, agree it's a great game!

We don't have a smiggle near us sadly.

That's the one dancegirl

Dancergirl · 12/02/2015 12:08

That looks lovely, I might get her that. I also like the look of the glitter pictures set.

My DD (same age) loves a game called "Telestrations". Lots of fun. Also we recently got Qwirkle which is great.
Gotz hair set (overpriced but much loved).
Other recent hits were a crystal garden kit, and a packet of 2 geodes with a hammer to smash them open.

mabelbabel · 12/02/2015 12:17

She also got a small Cath Kidston shoulder back from a friend which has been surprisingly popular for carrying her treasure around.

Jackieharris · 12/02/2015 12:21

Train sets
Car garage
Mecano
Knex
Lego Star Wars
Bow and arrow
Skateboard
Doctors kit
Workbench with tools

All perfect presents for girls.

mabelbabel · 12/02/2015 12:23

shoulder bag, not back...

Dancergirl · 12/02/2015 12:25

Thanks for that jackie, dd would hate most of those (apart from the doctors kit which she played with when she was 3)

only on MN do you get this ridiculous gender neutrality Grin

TengoSueno · 12/02/2015 12:31

Telescope
Metal detector
Gemstone stone buffer - its a tube you put rocks in to shine them up.

WUME · 12/02/2015 12:37

My dd would love a skateboard - but I fear we would spend a lot of time in A&E.

My dd loved her train set ans doctors kit but she has grown out of them now.

Lego sets always a big hit regardless of which set. With the new star wars film due out at Christmas I can guarantee she will be getting a star wars set for Christmas.

desertgirl · 12/02/2015 12:38

my 7 year old DD loves most of those thing Jackie (some we haven't come across) but the whole peer pressure thing seems to be kicking in around now and she wants lego friends for herself (and just to play with DS's star wars when no friends are around).

dancergirl I don't think it's only on MNN but does depend on the nature of the children :)

WUME · 12/02/2015 12:39

I am getting dd1 and dd2 nerf guns for Christmas - they will enjoy shooting each other Grin

And a set of walkie talkies.

Jackieharris · 12/02/2015 12:45

No wonder, you've obviously indoctrinated her into uber femininity.

Kids like toys they are encouraged to like, either by their parents, their peers, or advertising.

And this isn't some 'only on mn thing', all the mums of girls I know are struggling to fight against the pinkification of little girls.

Dancergirl · 12/02/2015 12:53

Sorry jackie I don't care. My oldest dd was also into pink, dolls and so on...now she's nearly 14 and grown out of it and is interested in science. My middle dd describes herself as a feminist.

I'm not having a political debate, I just wanted to get some ideas about presents for my dd. And if they're pink and girly then so be it. It won't affect her chances of becoming a doctor or scientist in the future.

I don't know where you live but I can't think of ANY mums I know who are 'struggling to fight against the pinkification of girls'. And even if they are, let them fight, it does't bother me in the slightest.

Maybe direct your campaign at people who are interested, I'm afraid it's wasted on me. Good luck with it.
