What was successful in your DCs stockings?

Next Christmas my DCs will be 7 (boy) and 4, 2.8 and 16 months (girls). I really struggle with what to put in stockings. I don't want them to cost too much but at the same time don't want to just fill them with tat. What was a success in yours?

Packs of playing cards, animal snap for DS (4), old maid for DD (6) and horrible histories (which are also traditional playing cards) for ds1 (9). A green rubber dinosaur that fired balls out of its mouth was also a big hit with ds2 and a spy pen (with light) for ds1.

RoundRobinSparkles · 02/01/2015 20:57

A small giggling Olaf for DD1 and a cuddly My Little Pony for DD2, chocolate coins, chocolate teddy and battery operated toothbrushes.

DD2 is awful at teeth brushing times and refuses. We go her a Spider-Man toothbrush and she's been brilliant since!

RoundRobinSparkles · 02/01/2015 20:58

DDs are 7 and almost 4, btw.

nilbyname · 02/01/2015 20:59

ds who is 3, but will be 4 next christmas loved

new pants

A packet of chewing gum which was really a cockroach on a spring was my sons absolutely favourite gift hands down. £0.95. Little lights for his bike wheels, a flashy ghost ball and a squidgy head were also hits.

Guitargirl · 02/01/2015 21:47

My DCs are 7 and 5.

They both loved their various stationery bits and bobs.

Bubblegum as only Father Christmas brings this into the house.

Monty and Mabel penguins but that wouldn't be much good for next year.

DD loved a little rabbit in a house from Accessorize.

Star and heart shaped springs from Smiggle.

lucysmam · 02/01/2015 23:23

battery operated toothbrushes are a good idea! Will add to my list Grin

threepiecesuite · 02/01/2015 23:35

My 4yo dd loved her Pinypon and Elsa shower cap, and geek glasses from Claires.

Nospringflower · 03/01/2015 08:41

Where did you get giggling loafs?! Like the sound of them but next year might be too late!

whattodoowiththeleftoverturkey · 03/01/2015 08:44

Magic flannel
Books
Notepads
Joke book
Top trumps
Torch

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 03/01/2015 08:53

Miniatures of absinthe.
(Might be a bit older than most) Grin

LokiBear · 03/01/2015 08:58

I just put DD's smaller presents in there, along with some sweets. The only 'stocking filler' type presents I bought were useful things like bubble bath and a hairbrush. She had a 'little mermaid' dress up outfit, a 'Frozen' hairbrush, bubble bath, some puppets, a minion, a torch (she had asked for one) and a Yoyo. A tube of smarties and some chocolate coins. It went down very well.

Hopingforpeaceandgoodwill · 03/01/2015 09:13

Dd1 (3)loved
Lego mini figure
Hair clips
Nail varnish
Personalised fridge magnets for displaying her artwork
Frozen bubble bath
Minnie Mouse Pants
Crafty bits and bobs
Hello Kitty packs of tissues

She wasn't bothered about sweets, fruit, toothbrush.
Really dislikes the digi bird

Dd2 (6 months)
Hand puppet
Bath squirty toy
Silver crinkle noisy foil blanket
Spoons for weaning
Musical instruments

Sure she was also delighted with her new vests and tights Grin

Aliennation · 03/01/2015 09:18

Science museum balloon copter has gone down very well with my 6 yr old.
Got it in Tesco for a fiver.
Always put a couple of Mr men books in too as ds loves them.

HangingInAGruffaloStance · 03/01/2015 09:32

Dd 3.5 liked..

An apple (got very excited about this!)
Playmobil unicorn and fairy set - probably the most played with Christmas present
Stickers
Socks with a picture of a squirrel on them

NoLongerJustAShopGirl · 03/01/2015 09:33

12 and 14 - BIG pack of blu-tac

Lovage · 03/01/2015 09:36

CatCushion · 03/01/2015 09:44

Banana carriers, vasaline lipsalve in box, Nak'd bars, fruit & welshcakes for breakfast..

Oh-I forgot the head torches...great fun running around outside after dark making up imaginary mountains and volcanoes !!

MrsTuppence · 03/01/2015 11:11

punching balloons were the biggest hit in our house with the two ds (ages 4 and nearly 2). Basically tough balloons with a loop at one end and a rubber band attached. Hard to explain but hours of fun for a few quid.
Oh, and the obligatory Lindt chocolate teddy bear! .

KittyandTeal · 03/01/2015 11:28

Small plastic dinosaur and the twirling baton thing from elc with glitter in it. Dd is 2.4

fuzzpig · 03/01/2015 11:32

DVDs, top trumps, worry dolls and lego mixels :)

RoundRobinSparkles · 03/01/2015 13:57

NoSpringFlower, the small giggling Olaf was from Claire's accessories. It's a TY one.
