We will be having sprouts with chestnuts and pancetta, and roasted parsnips. Don't like red cabbage. Feel like there's a vegetable item missing but can't work out what. DP says we can have peas too but I feel like there's something not quite right about that!!

Where are your roast potatoes?

We will have roast potatoes, roast parsnips, honey glazed carrots, red cabbage and sprouts.

Peas are wrong Xmas Grin

BooDidIScareYou · 20/12/2014 08:35

We will have roasties!! For some reason I never think of potatoes as a vegetable even though technically I know they are....

Roast spuds, carrots, celeriac, kale, sprout gratin and some general steamed greens :)

Springcleanish · 20/12/2014 08:52

Carrots, red cabbage, parsnips, sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli, no peas - they're for Boxing Day :)

BrieAndChilli · 20/12/2014 08:53

Honey roast parsnips
Cauliflower and broccoli bake
Carrots
Sprouts
Cabbage for the sprouts haters
Mashed swede
Possible chuck some peas on

Tiredoftiredness · 20/12/2014 08:54

Roasties, parsnips, carrots, red cabbage and sprouts.

Feel like I need at least another 5 items based on Christmas at MILs last year, but can't be arsed think it seems unnecessary?

Tiredoftiredness · 20/12/2014 08:55

Oops and cauli cheese. Yum!

NoLongerJustAShopGirl · 20/12/2014 08:55

Carrots, sprouts, green beans + whatever I shove in with the turkey to roast.

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 20/12/2014 08:56

Roast potatoes and parsnips.
Steamed sprouts and carrots.
Braised red cabbage.

It's the carrots you're missing Smile

guineapig1 · 20/12/2014 08:58

Roast potatoes
Maple glazed parsnips
Carrots
Braised red cabbage
Peas
Green cabbage/kale/spinach gratin
Brussels with chestnuts and bacon

ClashCityRocker · 20/12/2014 09:05

You need some class of root veggie mash - carrot and swede and parsnip or something. Yum!

When hosting we do:
Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Root veggie mash
Braised red cabbage
Brussels sprouts with chestnuts

But I always feel there should be another green vegetable...don't like peas, and red cabbage and Brussels sprouts are both quite 'cabbagy' so I don't think a white cabbage will do it...

Cauli cheese is weird and wrong!

And my mum once served it with....sweet corn! Shock

olbas · 20/12/2014 09:29

We are having...

Roast potatoes
Roast parsnips
Sprouts with bacon,chestnuts and lemon
Carrot/swede mash
Brocolli for my mum who doesn't like sprouts
Red cabbage.

Whatever I fancy when I go food shopping on Tuesday!
I cannot understand all this stress that goes along with Christmas!
It's a Sunday dinner with posh table decorations and something nice for desert.
That's it!
But saying that I haven't even got a Christmas tree yet Xmas Hmm
A puppy and a tree do not go well together so we will manage without!
All my presents are wrapped and i'm not working Christmas day this year Xmas Smile

TheFallenMadonna · 20/12/2014 09:48

I like sweetcorn with Christmas dinner. There, I said it. Drum me off the site now...

Aliennation · 20/12/2014 09:59

Last year I did sprout gratin, totally revolutionized my sprouts.
Lots of recipes online, I did mine with leeks and bacon in a cream sauce topped with breadcrumbs. It was delicious.

worm77daisy · 20/12/2014 11:40

We are having

Honey roast carrots
roast parsnips
braised red cabbage
brussels with chestnuts and pancetta
Beans and fennel with orange and amend recipe here

worm77daisy · 20/12/2014 11:41

i meant almonds and not amend!

MercuryRising · 20/12/2014 12:07

Carrots, peas, brussels, roast parsnips, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese - can't wait!

HollyJollyXmas · 20/12/2014 12:14

Roast potatoes
Parnsips and carrots roasted with maple syrup.
Steamed brussels and petit pois. Possibly cauliflower.

I save the red cabbage to have with boxing day leftovers. Yum.

furryleopard · 20/12/2014 13:26

I'm doing squishy boiled sprouts (as they should be!), mashed turnip/swede, peas and carrots. And a solitary parsnip for my DH who's the only one who likes them. And roast potatoes and mashed potatoes.

Roast potatoes
Roast parsnip
Mash (my DH is Irish and loves mash!!)
Red cabbage
Broccoli & cauliflower cheese
Sprouts

Should I be doing carrots too?! First year I've done christmas so not sure. Might boil a few up with the sprouts. Planning on preparing the veg on Christmas Eve so I can enjoy Christmas morning a bit more with my children.

ouryve · 20/12/2014 15:52

Sprouts, carrots, parsnips (for me - no one else likes them) and some red cabbage, if I can get around to making some.

Peas with Christmas dinner are just wrong. They're not even in season.

ouryve · 20/12/2014 15:54

Braised leeks work well, too, but I tend to do them with ham on Christmas eve.
