Do you leave your chistmas tree lights on when out or in bed?

My first thoughts were turn them off. Don't want to waste electricity or have a fire risk. On other hand don't want burglars to know when we are out and it is so nice to come home in dark and see it twinkling in window.

What do you do? It's a long string of plug in led lights

Turn off

GothicRainbow · 13/12/2014 12:44

Always turn them off

SoonToBeSix · 13/12/2014 12:45

Off, it's a massive fire risk.

DarylDixonsDarlin · 13/12/2014 12:45

Off. You seen that fire service video doing the rounds on facebook?

Poolbirthx2 · 13/12/2014 12:45

I turn them off, but if we are out in the evening will leave a light on

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 13/12/2014 12:46

Always turn them off.

Have a look at

MarjorieMelon · 13/12/2014 12:49

I leave them on if I'm popping out for less than an hour.

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 13/12/2014 12:51

No, please don't do that. It takes seconds for your tree to go up. I don't leave the washing machine on, or the dishwasher/dryer/laptop plugged in either.

MarjorieMelon · 13/12/2014 12:52

That YouTube clip is incredibly scary! If the fire takes hold that quickly should we even be using Christmas Tree lights at all. That room was ablaze within 10 seconds it takes me longer than that to walk down the stairs.

mrssmith79 · 13/12/2014 12:56

Nooooo! Turn them off! DH is a fireman - I left them on overnight ONCE. Now I get the lecture every frickin year - last year he wanted to bring a PowerPoint presentation home from work to make me watch Confused

Fullpleatherjacket · 13/12/2014 12:57

Off.

Too many fairy light related fire disasters not to.

DurhamDurham · 13/12/2014 13:01

Never,it's an accident waiting to happen. Plus an expensive habit to get into. I get I to a minor rage if my children leave lights on in a room once they've come out of it. I hate waste.

DioneTheDiabolist · 13/12/2014 13:03

Off. When I was 10yo my best friend died in a house fire started by Christmas tree lights two days after Christmas.Sad

WanderingTrolley1 · 13/12/2014 13:04

I leave our tree lights on all day and night.

Cocolepew · 13/12/2014 13:04

Off and unplugged.

MrsPear · 13/12/2014 13:08

That video is scary. off when out and at night.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/12/2014 13:09

I switch ours off. Why would you go out leaving anything than the fridge freezer on is beyond me.

wfrances · 13/12/2014 13:14

off

pigsinmud · 13/12/2014 13:15

I turn them off....not that they're up yet! I don't turn anything else off though. I don't leave washing machine/dishwasher/tumble dryer running, but I don't unplug.

kiwidreamer · 13/12/2014 17:52

I often put the dishwasher / washing machine on and then go to bed, they are new appliances but is that really bad???

stargirl1701 · 13/12/2014 17:53

Off. Too high a risk.

Inside lights turned off.
Outside lights left on if we are going out for the evening and a lamp left on inside.
