When to put stockings up

Zazzabeans · 24/11/2014 18:33

So, I'm thinking about putting tree next week, have never hung stockings on fire, normally just get them out Xmas eve and fill them.
However dds think I should hang them on the fireplace next week as their friends all do.
Is this the norm ?

I like to hang them up with the rest of the decs...no fireplace though so am wondering where this year Confused

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/11/2014 18:36

We just put them on beds on Christmas Eve, we use our fireplaces so can't have anything hanging from them.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 24/11/2014 18:37

Definitely Christmas Eve, unless you have the sort of fireplace that looks right with them and they won't get in the way for a month.

waithorse · 24/11/2014 19:45

We do them Christmas eve.

SanityClause · 24/11/2014 19:51

Our DC hang them off the end of their beds on Christmas Eve. Why did I do that? I've always had to wait for them to go to sleep, then sneak in. DD1 is 15, and goes to sleep after us, now. How will I fill her stocking? Gaaah!

pictish · 24/11/2014 19:54

Christmas Eve here too.

MehsMum · 24/11/2014 20:29

Christmas eve, though the DC, who are old enough to know better, want them out once the tree is up (and I am a horrible parent and that doesn't happen till the weekend before Christmas).

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 24/11/2014 20:40

Christmas Eve definitely. They aren't a decoration.

Zazzabeans · 26/11/2014 11:24

I have seen lots of people putting them up with their trees, but im not so sure Confused

Christmas Eve, at the end of the bed. Have never heard of stockings going up any other time!

DuelingFanjo · 26/11/2014 11:27

Christmas Eve. We have them by the chimney.

TweeAintMee · 26/11/2014 11:43

Christmas Eve, on end of the bed.

DamselNotInHerDress · 26/11/2014 12:08

Christmas Eve on the ends if beds. We use our fireplaces anyway so wouldn't hang them there.

curiousgeorgie · 26/11/2014 12:10

I hang them on the fireplace, empty until they go to bed on Christmas Eve. (When they are then too heavy to hang so I just place them on the hearth.

It looks fab Grin

WildFlowersAttractBees · 26/11/2014 12:13

We sit them under the tree when it goes up then they are hung on the end of each bed on Christmas eve.

QoFE · 26/11/2014 12:15

Christmas eve.

And I have 2 of each stocking so I can fill one in my room then do a swap to make it quiet and faster!

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 26/11/2014 12:17

On the end of the bed on Christmas Eve before they go to sleep.

Showy · 26/11/2014 12:20

7pm on the 24th of December. At the earliest.

Daydreamersea · 26/11/2014 17:28

About a week or so before Christmas as we like seeing them hanging up.

TweeAintMee · 26/11/2014 20:56

QofE - you cunning creature! Love that idea. Sadly our socks are a mixture of rather eccentric odd sock shooting stockings etc. so to find the other half would be a challenge.

QoFE · 26/11/2014 22:28

Ours are grandad's old wooly thigh high fishermans socks Grin and grandad was very particular about such things so we have both of each pair. I can't take credit for the idea, it was one I read on MN years ago when my oldest was small. But it is genius.

glentherednosedbattleostrich · 26/11/2014 22:33

QoFE, we do the 2 stocking thing too!

OP, definitely Christmas eve

steppemum · 26/11/2014 22:41

Ours are pretty, and go on our lounge door, or on the bannisters and then upstairs on Christmas eve.

steppemum · 26/11/2014 22:42

I creep in and pinch stocking, then fill it in our bedroom and then return it.

mistlethrush · 26/11/2014 22:42

Christmas eve for stockings here.
