I'm pride myself on giving good gifts, I really do put thought and effort into it, but I've always really struggled for DH!

Anyone fancy helping me brainstorm? He has his birthday near Christmas too so I need two gifts as well.

So,
*He works in music so has all music-related equipment and gets given things like headphones, gig tickets through work.

*Spends the rest of his time playing golf - I've previously bought him tickets for The Open, and golf psychology books, practice nets thingys and the like. I wouldn't buy him golf clothes as I'd probably buy the wrong kind. One year he chose himself new clubs as his Christmas present from me.

*Doesn't cook, not interested in fine wines or anything like that.

*Travels a lot with work and whereas I'd jump at the chance to have a city break or something, he's sick of planes and hates 'looking at buildings' (AKA sight seeing ). He has all the luggage he needs

*Doesn't really read much

*Not interested in fashion or men's beauty products, doesn't like watches

*Definitely no novelty gifts!

I know you said no novelty gifts but my dp is getting a r.c. helicopter this year. He's mentioned a few times that he wanted one as a child but was never allowed one...is there anything like that he might appreciate?

He tends to get tickets for things through work, but I could keep a look out.

He has been given a RC helicopter a couple of years ago, never used.

Sorry, I feel like I'm going to come across as negative, but I am very grateful for any input, really!

A road bike & some lycra.

He has a bike (unused) he also has a treadmill and gym equipment which is used, tbf.

I didn't necessarily mean the helicopter - more something he's always really wanted but never had iyswim? The helicopter is what my dp's wanted for ages but never had

A really expensive bathrobe or pyjamas - silk or cashmere

A hamper of luxury junk food - eg artisan pork pies, fancy crisps etc

A driving experience or another sport experience eg white water rafting

A small but high end bit of music kit - assuming he is into music (and doesn't get it through work) eg headphones - can't think if the brand that does the really techie stuff - will try and remember

Socks, jocks and chocs have always been quite sufficient for my dh. He hates excess.

Does he have one of those golf watches that tell you distances? Also the blue golf ball finder glasses- but if a gimmick but they work apparently?

How about a novelty Christmas hamper? I am doing this for our teen DC and DH, to open on Christmas Eve.

So far, I have - a novelty mug each (rude, but they are teens), Christmas onesie, slippers, novelty money tins (see previous brackets, also rude!), sweets that are their favourites, a DVD each that they will each like, some facial/smelly stuff they all like, Christmas hats etc.

So, it's personal, not too expensive but good fun too?

ps - could be personal to your own DH though, so golf tees, balls, etc.

Not sure if this comes under fashion, but what about a nice wallet? You can get something simple and non-showy from Aspinal. I got my DP (and my DB!) the card holder last year and got my DP's initials embossed on his for a bit of a personal touch. Both of them were really pleased with their presents .

He really wouldn't appreciate luxury luggage, he has normal luggage which takes a battering on many flights then gets replaced. Same for wallet I think.

I think at the moment, I'm edging towards a round of golf with a pro. But I'm still on the look out!

OK if he works in the music biz AND plays golf he must like drinking - how about a case of really great wine or whiskey?

If he travels a lot, something for travelling - travel pillow, toiletries bag, clock with times around the globe?

What about some really nice cufflinks, either designer or a golf theme. In Etsy you can get some with the soil or turf of a favourite golf club inside them? Is that too gimmicky?

I second a very nice bottle of whiskey or whatever his favourite drink is. Fancy Cigars as a celebration one off thing? My husband likes having man stuff for Christmas! Good whisky is never wasted on him.

Golf shoes? Or some good walking boots if he is an outdoorsy type.

Have a look in his wardrobe and drawers at what is looking old and worn too and just replace it like for like. We all prefer a new shiny version of something we already own and have worn to death!

Very insightful Tondelayo he only drinks vodka, but a bottle of Grey Goose or something is always well received.

He takes his macbook everywhere, so I don't think he'd have use for a tablet, but maybe a decent toilet bag would be good. Although, he usually ends up using those clear plastic bags for carry on flights.

OK, I could look at his golf shoes couldn't I? Good idea.

Sounds remarkably like my husband. He is getting a new golf trolley as current one on last legs, framed photo of the girls, Ian poulter autobiography, golf tickets to the PGA next year, socks, pants etc and local edition of a famous board game. There will be a few non golf bits but no idea what yet so taking ideas from here!

A coffee machine?

My DH is a nightmare to buy for but loves receiving presents BUT only ones he likes. 'Tis a source of stress to find things twice a year for birthday/Christmas!

Successful pressies have been:

an adult micro scooter (the most successful ever as it was a total surprise and the package was large!)
a nice set of quoits (for holidays)

Most disastrous present was an iphone.
