Its a giant squishable cuddly toy. Would cost $90 not accounting for any possible customs/vat charges.

I've told her she might not get it but she reckons Father Christmas might be able to get one no problem. Hmm. She's 13yo and adamantly believes in Father Christmas, though I suspect deep down she knows he's not real. When I tried to broach that topic two years ago there were tears so I haven't gone there again.

I do have the money but its an obscene amount of money for a cuddly toy.

its this

My 15yo wandered in so I asked her opinion...which is that your DD is yanking your chain and that if she really still believes in Santa perhaps what she needs for xmas is some sort of tutor.

Floggingmolly · 16/11/2014 22:27

Am I going to be the lone voice that says "But it's Christmas"??
When my eldest was two, I bought the complete set of Teletubbies in giant (2.5 foot) form from the US; the shipping charges were probably more than I'd have spent flying out to collect the creepy buggers in person...

VivaLeBeaver · 16/11/2014 22:29

Grin at Errols 15yo.

Get a mumsnetter to buy one for you....just pay them via paypal then they can take out all the stuffing and post it.

You can re-stuff and stitch up the hole. I would. When we relocate abroad I am doing this to many of my DC cuddly toys. They're obsessed with them and would be sad if they didn't come along.

Floggingmolly · 16/11/2014 22:32

It was a Christmas to remember, alright! she was fecking terrified of them

BringYourOwnSnowman · 16/11/2014 22:32

That is one ugly toy

At 13 I think she is playing you re believing in Santa. She probably hopes your desire for her to still be your baby will override your common sense!

I think is be tempted to put a note from Santa in her stocking saying something along the lines of 'really?'

Ds is 7 and has told me everyone in his class says Santa isn't real but he knows he is because he doesn't understand why parents would buy a present from someone else and themselves. I just agreed that did sound weird and mentally noted this will be the last year we play that game!

I am astounded that at 13 she hasn't known for at least 3 years.

Hopefully it will be in the uk (or she will have realise how hideous it is) before her birthday!

BringYourOwnSnowman · 16/11/2014 22:34

Do people really get their kids everything they want for Christmas?

CecyHall · 16/11/2014 22:34

I love Puppycat but wouldn't pay that much for postage.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 16/11/2014 22:35

Did you line them up at the end of her bed flogging?

BuckskinnedAstronaut · 16/11/2014 22:39

I've Liked and tweeted for you.

rooty could send with her brother to Glasgow and we could organise a chain of MNers to move it across the country... Grin

RJnomore · 16/11/2014 22:42

That's an amazing idea bout taking out the stuffing.

Oh go on viva, it's Christmas, think how happy it would make her...

VivaLeBeaver · 16/11/2014 22:43

Thanks everyone. I'm not going to get it. If its in the uk by march she can have it then. I think the point that kids shouldn't have everything they want is probably a good one. She did ask tonight if Santa might bring her a Wii u as well. Mmmm, no!

She's getting plenty of smaller presents such as DVDs and books to go with her computer. And she got a real life puppy last month!

VivaLeBeaver · 16/11/2014 22:44

I think its special stuffing though. You know like those funny travel pillows in service stations. Almost like memory foam but not as dense?

OP posts:
RJnomore · 16/11/2014 22:46

Hmm a wii u is different I'd be saying no to that too...

Viviennemary · 16/11/2014 22:46

It is a lot of money for the postage. But a lot of things these days are just simply not worth the money. Would I spent £900 on a handbag. Absolutely not. I just wouldn't. Yet plenty of people on MN do. I think if she really wants it and she can afford it then why not. It's Christmas after all.

Viviennemary · 16/11/2014 22:47

That should be you can afford it!

BringYourOwnSnowman · 16/11/2014 22:48

She sounds like she's very lucky and a little bit of disappointment won't do her any harm!

Tell her Santa probably couldn't fit it down the chimney

RJnomore · 16/11/2014 22:48

So, how much is a second hand squishables of the same size but any type on eBay?

Cos you could reuse the stuffing from one of them?

We don't have the smiley I need on here - its the one with the bared teeth!

rootypig · 16/11/2014 22:48

Re marzipan - it is a ridiculous price and of doubtful caliber, like much else here!

I would buy and gut this animal for you Grin
But it would probably only save you $10 or $20, by the time it's been posted in the US (plus tax), posted to the UK, you've restuffed it...

YonicScrewdriver · 16/11/2014 22:49

Can it be instead of the gaming PC - she can choose which?

ErrolTheDragon · 16/11/2014 22:49

think how happy it would make her...

will it, though? I dunno - this doesn't seem quite like the innocent delight of a small child when something they want magically appears.

RJnomore · 16/11/2014 22:50

Cheesy bared teeth grin that is - not agressive!

VivaLeBeaver · 16/11/2014 22:51

No, we've bought the pc already as we got a good deal at a gaming convention. Plus a PC is educational for her, she's teaching herself to code and running severs and loads of other techy stuff.

YonicScrewdriver · 16/11/2014 22:51

Oh, fair enough.
