Its a giant squishable cuddly toy. Would cost $90 not accounting for any possible customs/vat charges.

I've told her she might not get it but she reckons Father Christmas might be able to get one no problem. Hmm. She's 13yo and adamantly believes in Father Christmas, though I suspect deep down she knows he's not real. When I tried to broach that topic two years ago there were tears so I haven't gone there again.

I do have the money but its an obscene amount of money for a cuddly toy.

its this

its the value that matters on customs.

i ordered a guitar for DH, cost me £165, plus £100 postage, and then i got a £42 customs charge (and £8 handling fee)

Errr.... no. I'm all for children not growing up too fast, but I seriously don't think your teenager believes in Father Christmas, but I'm afraid she does know how to manipulate you. TBH by this age a little bit of an idea about the value of money should be coming into play. She's getting a gaming PC so she's not exactly hard done by. I'd suggest that you let her save any money she might be given, pocket money etc - if she really wants to spend that on this monstrosity toy and postage and customs charges, so be it. Or tell her that if it's available on the UK site you'll get it for her then.

Postage from the States is always way too much, I find. I wanted to get dh a signed guitar pick, which was selling for $10 (not a unique signed things, there were lost of them) and the postage was $50! There is absolutely NO freaking way a guitar pick cost $50 to send to Australia.

There must be a company that has cheaper postage. They are on ThinkGeek and I've bought stuff from them before and had it shipped and it didn't cost that much.

Ah boo, I could have sent this home with my brother for you.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/11/2014 22:19

She supposedly still thinks that we get her some presents, relatives get some and the. Santa brings some.

I told her it was too much money. She said ok. Then the next day piped up that maybe Santa will buy it. Since then she's been banging on aout Santa bringing it every day.

Never mind Rooty. I think it would take a suitcase up though, its quite big. Your brother wouldn't have thanked you. Grin

OP posts:
rootypig · 16/11/2014 22:25

Well since he's bringing a suitcase of marzipan this way, I doubt it would pose a problem Grin Grin Grin

Seriously, I feel for you. It is an absurd price for a cuddly toy but the heart wants what it wants Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 16/11/2014 22:26

Do you not have marzipan in America?
