Is Superdry still cool for 12 year olds?

I was thinking of getting my just turned 12 DN a Superdry top for Christmas but DH says Superdry is a bit naff now. Is it?

My dd 11.3 likes superdry, it's quite popular around here still.

Just avoid it if you're pushing 40.

Dogmatix34 · 15/11/2014 22:16

That's what I thought, thanks for the replies. I haven't seen him since he started Secondary School and apparently he has turned into a selfie posing teenager so the usual lego won't cut it!

Shit. I'm 37 and wear their hoodies.

TheLittleOneSaidRollOver · 15/11/2014 22:18

That depends entirely on where she lives and who your DN is mates with.

As an old gimmer, i.e. I assume you are over 20, you have absolutely no idea what is cool for a 12 yo in her social group.

You have to ask DN's best friend. Or get DN's mum to ask DN's best friend. The bf will big up whatever you get DN if she suggested it and we all know that 12yos base most of their "cool" decisions on what their mates say.

makemineapinot · 15/11/2014 22:18

Superdry and Hollister all the way here with teens.. Reminds me of Funny bones by Alan Ahlberg - " in a dark, dark shop...!"

mumofthemonsters808 · 15/11/2014 22:25

Hollister seems to be the in brand amongst my girl and her friends.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/11/2014 14:53

My 12yo DD has a black Superdry waterproof that she wears for school ( I was Shock at the £70+ price tag but she wears it at home, school, it's practical ,well made. I usually pay £40 for a school coat anyway, so okay it's alot but she gets good use of it)
The T shirts are nice, lovely and soft, wash well (except a white/red one which bled but we got a refund)

They don't do refunds in our local Superdry shops

I haven't ventured into Hollister with DD - yet

candybar · 16/11/2014 16:13

My almost 12 year old son is a huge Superdry fan, we also invested £80 in a coat as apparently nothing else would do.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/11/2014 17:06

I think it depends. Round here lots of dads wear Superdry hoodies and I don't think the teens would be seen dead in it. Dd has a superdry coat which she's worn twice in two years.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 16/11/2014 17:09

Ds2 is 12 and yr 8. Judging by what all his friends wear after school and weekends it's all superdry and hollister. Jack wills is over now apparently.

Curlygirly · 16/11/2014 17:09

If you live anywhere near London, there is a great Superdry Outlet shop at Wembley.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 16/11/2014 17:09

Oh and north face seems to be popular too.

ChillySundays · 16/11/2014 20:05

It seems to me it depends on where you live. My DC would not been have been seen dead in McKenzie but it was all the rage with my DN and her mates. Same for superdry.

JingleSpud · 16/11/2014 20:19

I so read that OP as Superdrug....

Hulababy · 16/11/2014 20:24

It is still very much "in" among the 11-15y I know. Very popular along with Hollister and Pink, and also A&F and Jack Wills (though the latter are dearer.)

12y DD has several items on her Christmas list from the above.

Also - I have just found the official Superdry outlet shop in ebay which can have some good prices on too.

Dogmatix34 · 16/11/2014 21:20

Thanks so much everyone. Think I'll get something on eBay outlet site, that way it won't matter too much if it never gets worn!

flipchart · 16/11/2014 21:33

Where I live Hollister and Jack Wills and McKenzie are worn by a certain type of teenager and won't be worn by others as they are deemed not cool.

It is definitely a regional thing as I know those makes are popular elsewhere in the country.

SuperDry and Etnies are popular with the young teenagers (and older ones come to that!)

everydayaschoolday · 16/11/2014 23:18

18YO asked for a super dry bag. So it must still be in Grin.

flipchart · 16/11/2014 23:21

Remember if you do get him a Superdry hood or t shirt they size up small.
There was a thread about it yesterday I think it was.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 18/11/2014 10:46

Here mckenzie is a totally different type of teen to the Hollister superdry teen.

ginnycreeper5 · 18/11/2014 10:48

I think it looks naff on adults. But still ok for kids.

ginnycreeper5 · 18/11/2014 10:49

Northface is really popular and not as naff as SuperDry

Boysandme · 18/11/2014 10:52

Here, superdry is still in with my yr9, in fact he says that 'everybody' has a superdry coat (apart from him). He tells me that Hollister is less cool now.

Who knows?!?!
