What are you buying for your mum?

Haven't got a clue this year. In the last few years I've got her: voucher for shoes / handbag filled with mini hairspray, handcream etc / nightie, dressing gown and slippers - plus the obligatory chocolate and Baileys.

She wouldn't like an 'experience' present and doesn't really do makeup or body stuff. Loves reading but buys or gets from the library everything she wants, and wouldn't like a Kindle. Not really into clothes.

I'm doing framed photos of her grandchildren - I've can't think of anything else. She isn't into luxuries and doesn't need anything practical this year.

A fruit tree (probably a self fertalising apple, maybe a plum?) they're actually best planted in the winter so it is a fitting present for Christmas. Also a sort of gardening hamper with a book about growing veg, a trowel/fork set, gardening gloves, a nice mug and some botanical hand wash/cream (see what I did there?). Also chocolate. because my mum's a chocolate monster

Magazine subscription? If she likes cooking I can recommend Delicious

No go so far for mine, though. She doesn't garden, or ramble. Does like cooking but doesn't really read magazines. I could get her some baking stuff, maybe, but have done it before.

My dm is getting the obligatory hand cream and chocs plus she has said she would like a blanket to have on her legs during the evening so am hoping to find one that fits the bill.

See, I'd love cashmere socks but my mum wouldn't care for them at all. Ditto re afternoon tea. She'd see both as needless extravagances and not appreciate them.

The best present I ever got for my mum was a bird box video camera, which came from a MN thread a few years ago! She loved it, massive success.

What about a Spicery subscription? I heard about them on MN and have bought them for gifts a few times. Each month you get a set of spices and recipes to make a three course meal. I got my mum the Mothers' Day one and made her the meal. It was very easy to cook and needed basic ingredients to go with the supplied spices.

I have no clue what to get her for Christmas...hoping for some inspiration from this thread...

So far all I've got for her is Game of Thrones DVDs, that's the only thing she's mentioned that she wants!

In the past I've given her perfume, CDs (although apparently we're the only people who still use them), hand cream, books, slippers, a fluffy dressing gown, cut flowers, a plant, chocolate, and whiskey.

It seems I'm not very imaginative!

My mum is also likely to be uncomfortable with anything too 'much'. In the past, bits like hot water bottles, seeds and flower pots, hyacinths, books I think she might not have come across, hand cream, puzzle magazines, have all gone down well.

Am Considering getting RHS membership for her this year as there are lots of partner gardens near her.

It's been years since I bought anything for my mum, family rift, but back then I used to buy her bath stuff from Lush.

I've done a trip to Hampton Court flower show in the past, which went down well (my dad gets hayfever so doesn't do flower shows!)

What does your DM do apart from cook and read? Would a good reading lamp be useful?
