Haven't got a clue this year. In the last few years I've got her: voucher for shoes / handbag filled with mini hairspray, handcream etc / nightie, dressing gown and slippers - plus the obligatory chocolate and Baileys.

She wouldn't like an 'experience' present and doesn't really do makeup or body stuff. Loves reading but buys or gets from the library everything she wants, and wouldn't like a Kindle. Not really into clothes.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllpppppppppp! :)

A hamper of nicer than she would buy herself food and drink?

sillymillyb · 15/11/2014 21:07

I have got her some clothes (she asked for them!) some Jo Malone perfume, the good wife DVD, some books, a photo frame of ds and her and lastly, a weekly cleaner.....

I spend a lot on her because she does childcare for me for free so I try and even it out a bit, plus she's a widow and no one else really gets her anything.

Last year I did my mum a personalised filo fax. Most of the time I do vouchers with shopping trip thrown in.she is a person that rigidly sticks to lists.got her jewellery one year which she returned as too heavy!

aliciagardner · 16/11/2014 09:17

Thinking about an actifry. Reviews look quite good but not sure... Can't really think if anything else! Anyone have one? Have read the reviews on mumsnet too but they're all a few years old.

blibblibs · 16/11/2014 09:21

This year I'm getting DM an adult colouring book and decent pencils.

She doesn't like me spending too much money, she never wants or needs anything and she seems to enjoy sitting with the DC when they colour in so I'm hoping she likes it.

florentina1 · 16/11/2014 09:28

Could you tell us a bit more about her. How old she is and what she does to occupy herself. We might be able to help more. My kids say, make yourself a shopping list of things you would really like. I find it very difficult to put the list together takes me ages to think of things.

curiousgeorgie · 16/11/2014 09:31

A kindle for my MIL and some designer wellies for my mum. And then bits and bobs like DVDs, a hand painted mug from my DD's, and some chocolate.

Letthemtalk · 16/11/2014 09:31

A pair of earrings and possibly a throw or a scarf for my DM. Emil is getting a new CD player thing.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/11/2014 09:35

Apophenia · 16/11/2014 10:20

I'm contemplating cheese subscription for my dad and flower subscription for my mom. Someone else suggest the flowers on my what to buy my parents thread.
The only thing I'm worried about is no one being in to receive them. I was going to get a three month subscription for them both as they're really expensive. About £100. Then I think...shall I just buy my mom three bunches of flowers on three consecutive months for about a third of the cost?! Not quite the same I suppose...

missmakesstuff · 16/11/2014 10:31

My mum is a nightmare to buy for, she doesn't do pampering, toiletries don't get used, nor jewellery, although I have made her some stuff in the past, she now only wears the one pendant I made her (dds fingerprint) and nothing else..
so far she has, shared with my dad a handmade Xmas felt wreath, made by all of us, a neck warmer/hat for cycling ( cycles dd to school everyday) and that's it. Like crafts, puzzles, knitting etc. Might get her a few books, liking the puzzle mag subs idea...apart from that no ideas!

mysteryfairy · 16/11/2014 10:32

I often buy my mum extravagant flowers from a really lovely florist.

One of the most appreciated things I ever got my parents was an iPad. It's an iPad 2 so on the basis mine has just been replaced as nearly obsolete I'm thinking of upgrading their one this year.

I once recently bought my mum the perfume I remembered her wearing in the 80s - Giorgio Beverly Hills. Didn't really suit her any more and was stunned by how dated it smelt, but have done ok with Jo loves, Jo Malone and Penhaligons. No other beauty stuff.

Also got my mum leather cashmere lined gloves which she liked

happsymum · 16/11/2014 10:34

Hurticaneinateacuo where are u looking for the cheese subscription? I was going to do a hamper but subscription sounds even better as I'm struggling with the hamper now that I'm trying to do it - and not just a thought

Hurricaneinateacup · 16/11/2014 10:37

The cheese society - however there's quite a few if you google!
Cheapest I've seen is £82 for three months.

RobotRuthy · 16/11/2014 10:48

Last year I bought a lovely slate cheeseboard and a three hole wine rack from www.slatewineracks.co.uk. Ioan (pronounced Yo ann...he's welsh but lives down south) was lovely in helping me choose the right ones and I had the wine rack engraved as it was my dad's special birthday on Christmas day.

I'm going to buy a white Portland stone wine rack for a wedding prezzy this year.

CleaninQueen · 16/11/2014 13:27

Memphisbelly · 16/11/2014 13:37

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/11/2014 14:12

Thanks everybody. Still nothing 'right' though. I've spoken to her and she said she doesn't want anything in particular. Arghhh!

Some of your cooking. What you are best at cooking. For her freezer.

I'd love that kind of gift!

Clutterbugsmum · 17/11/2014 14:10

A new light for her newly decorated living room. She saw a light she really liked but said it was too expensive. So I've got the ceiling light and my sister has got the matching floor light. I well also renew her needdlepoint magazine she had for the last few years.

I have also in the past bought theatre tickets and day trips with buy a gift.

happsymum · 18/11/2014 13:55

Just added a spectacles chain to my mums little presents pile - might be an idea for someone else too :)
