Are we being stingy?

DS will be 3 in a couple of weeks, DD is 1 shortly after and then there are only three weeks until Christmas. We expect that between them they will get a mountain of toys from family and friends.

We're planning on getting DS a Knights' castle for his birthday and a balance bike plus stocking filler for Christmas and DD a Fisher Price door for her birthday and a trike plus stocking fillers for Christmas. Both will get PJs for Christmas Eve.

However, I've been to the other parenting website for the first time today. There's a thread where people have taken photos of all the gifts for their DC and the number of gifts some people have bought is staggering to me.

As they both have winter birthdays we buy small toys and gifts throughout the year. We are trying not to spoil them, but are we being too stingy?

I completely disagree about staying away, unless i have misunderstood you, the thread is about sharing what you have chosen to purchase, not about the reasons for that choice and whether it is everything that the children will get. Surely we can respect each others choices in this instance?

oP, you aren't stingy. You are the parent, your judgement of enough is all that matters. There's years to go on your parenting gig. There may be a year when, for some reason, you go over the top. Maybe some year when they are particularly enchanted with a particular movie or hobby, or book and you decide to go all in. Or maybe you just find a lot of bargains or have a winning lotto ticket. That will be fine too.

I hope so too, its intended as a friendly picture sharing thread not a boasting thread or a slatting one and I am loving the tone of it just now I was expecting it to kick off but it hasn't thankfully

The thing is I may have got lots for my kids but don't think I paid full RRP for any one present, for example I got the huge £60 batcave and I only paid £24 by looking for deals on Hduk and on the Christmas bargain threads on mumsnet

ive been reading this thread since it started and was getting slightly angered not at the debate but the personal insults etc and in all honesty it does not matter how much gifts a family choose to buy their child . i know people who spend 4 k at xmas , some more than that and some friends spend £200 or less. it does not make my friends better or worse than the other as some of them have the means to do so including myself . the picture thread has been a massive hit and lots of mums on it are sparking up friendships which has been great to see and be a part of . and the posters who have been supportive of laura R and dot thank you ! and will be having a nosey at the mums net pic thread lol
