Ideas for girls aged 18 to 20 please

Looking for something a bit 'different' I guess. They don't need anything techy or straighteners or anything like that. Will do them the usual stocking stuffed with hairspray etc, and the usual PJs, knickers and socks, but any ideas for something that feels substantial and exciting, that is an actual gift rather than a voucher or money, or an 'experience' would be much appreciated. :)

A slightly curveball suggestion, but how about a proper, stocked toolkit? As in a box from say B&Q with some screwdrivers, hammer, spanner, pliers, tape measure etc etc in so when they move out they have the bits they need?

Not sure this counts as exciting however... but could be split into lots of things to unwrap

Thank you for the very curveball idea. Unfortunately I don't think either of them would appreciate it in the slightest. I have failed in my duty as a mother, obviously. :)

How about the other extreme and a lovely sewing kit? I have no idea why I'm in such a pragmatic mood today

Less practically, how about a nice piece of jewellery? Or if they are keen readers an early edition of their favourite book? Or a magazine subscription for a year?

They have sewing machines and kit already, but otherwise that would be a great idea. :)

WE do magazine subscriptions generally, but want something for them to actually open. DD1 would probably like jewellery and books but not dd2.

Pragmatic is good - one year we bought them a toasted sandwich maker, which totally bemused them.

Watching with interest. 3 dd's around this age. Mine wouldn't appreciate tool or sewing kit either. I like magazine subscription idea..Thanks for that one.

DD2 gets a new box of art stuff every Christmas, so that is a timely reminder.

DT1 wants a tankard to drink her beer from at Uni and DT2 wants a skeleton (full size) for her uni room :)

They aren't really girls are they? At that age I enjoyed a bottle of Baileys, some nice beauty stuff or vouchers to put towards whatever I needed.

They will get both booze and vouchers! Just looking for ideas for something else. Tbh they are pretty lovely girls and are always v grateful for whatever they get.

Proper walking boots - I got some from a real boot shop, properly fitted, and the difference has been incredible.

Hunter or other nice Wellies? They went down well as big box surprises for mine especially with the hunter fleece liners. They wear them more than I thought between festivals, snowy days and grumbly walks when we drag them out.

I know you said not "an experience" but how about some proper jewelery making bits and bobs and a course for silver jewelery making so they can design and make a piece for themselves?

A couple of friends have done a short evening class course and made some lovely necklaces, bangles and rings.

It does sound lovely but dd2 doesn't wear jewellery at all, and dd1 not really into crafty stuff tbh.

I started to like 'nice' stuff about then with view to future flats. So, posh fairy lights like roses? Smart/sheepskin cushions? A fur throw?
