Really struggling for ideas for dd2, I don't want piles of tat, have just had a big clear out and I'm enjoying not drowning in toys.

I have bought her a few small things including a light up cushion, a Shopkins set and a couple moshi monster books but I would like to buy her a main gift, something around £50, something that won't take up much space but will feel her occupied. Dd2 has ASD and tends to break things easily, although she loves most things that other 8 year olds do it's not always possible to let her have them as she puts things in her mouth, breaks things and doesn't really look after anything. She wants a electric guitar but already has a acoustic one which she does not look after so I refuse to get her one. She has a iPad, a trampoline and a ton of lego.

I have pretty much bought her sisters presents and would like them to have roughly the same amount, dd1 is getting the new HUDL 2, a case for the hudl, a Pickachu hoody, a game for her 3ds, a tummy stuffer and some books ( and maybe a few smaller thing such as bath bombs and sweets ).

I need ideas for dd2?

Great ideas here. I'm wondering about Heelys... I thought the craze had passed years ago but ds has asked for them and I think dd would like too..

howtodrainyourflagon · 06/11/2014 21:18

I've found the happy puzzle company v good for kids this age. I'm getting 9yo ds a nanobots robotics kit, some science books and some bits and bobs from the happy puzzle co. I know you asked about dds but they're not all that different Smile

Doza · 08/11/2014 08:11

Thanks for the hot wires idea, my DD would love that, but what is a nano bots robotics kit? Dr Google is no help...

MissLurkalot · 08/11/2014 08:18

MissLurkalot · 08/11/2014 08:23

Oi intrigued, wat are these mini shop things? Heading to google now Smile

happsymum · 08/11/2014 16:42

*ooo not oi! V rude sorry! Naughty phone!!

Everythingwillbeok · 08/11/2014 17:07

Lol at oi!! They are called mii worlds. They are like mock ups of real shops very cute! especially the Claire's one. DD doesn't even know they exist but I saw them and knew she would love them so got her the sketchers one too. The only downside being 100s of tiny bits!!

turkeyboots · 08/11/2014 17:13

DD really wants a Xeno which is a interactive snot monster thing. Expensive though at £80. Also a little live bird is requested and stompee slippers.

May get the Xeno and have got lovely Boden girl slippers with bunny ears. Will get a CD and book too. And selection of lush bath bombs.

Everythingwillbeok · 08/11/2014 17:19

turkey my DD got a little live bird and cage in September for her birthday
Its actually really good I've hung it in her room from her ceiling it's looks nice there. She plays with it a lot. She also got some stompeez too the unicorn ones which are also surprisingly good and work really well.

turkeyboots · 08/11/2014 17:26

Thanks Everything useful to know they are good. I hate buying things which are ignored from Boxing day on. DH is off the the US next week so will add them to his Christmas shopping list, as is cheaper there.

Everythingwillbeok · 08/11/2014 17:31

Oh good plan. Yeah I'm sick of spending money on stuff that looks great on the advert but is actually a pile of shit! That's why I no longer buy anything to do with ice cream/ chocolate/ fruit/ sweets in the toy line ! All rubbish!
It's such a waste of hard earned money, I'm thinking of also getting a real live pet butterfly as the bird is so good. Although its very funny as you can make it say anything you want so I have been recording over my DDs sayings with my own.... Childish but amusing she goes mad.

beatricequimby · 08/11/2014 21:25

Agree with those who have recommended hotwires and knex. My kids have played with those for hours. My dd is getting the john lewis sewing machine from my mum. Probably art stuff from us. She has proper water colours and pastels which she uses a lot.

tassisssss · 09/11/2014 10:35

Love this thread!

My 8 yo spent hours yesterday with her Magic Tricks box and youtube clips. This could be a great gift if anyone doesn't have it already?

SylvaniansKeepGettingHoovered · 09/11/2014 18:24

I've changed my mind about getting DD a sewing machine, I'm now thinking of getting her a Kindle as she's a massive bookworm and will get loads of use. I'm just slightly worried about the on-going cost as we'll have to keep topping up with books, but she can save up for them and have birthday money etc. through the year.

FranksBobot · 09/11/2014 18:30

Dd is getting a digital camera for her main present. Not a majorly expensive one, looking at around £40.
Other presents are Anna doll, craft set of some description, Headphones and monster high doll.

Mrsg26 · 09/11/2014 20:07

Sorry only just saying this. I got the hair chalk in argos think it was £9.99 but got it in the 3for2, I also saw some in toysrus too if that's any help.

Everythingwillbeok · 09/11/2014 20:09

Primark have hair chalk ....pink,green,lilac with a little device to apply to the hair it's ok I've had a couple £4

clr2014 · 09/11/2014 20:22
