Really struggling for ideas for dd2, I don't want piles of tat, have just had a big clear out and I'm enjoying not drowning in toys.

I have bought her a few small things including a light up cushion, a Shopkins set and a couple moshi monster books but I would like to buy her a main gift, something around £50, something that won't take up much space but will feel her occupied. Dd2 has ASD and tends to break things easily, although she loves most things that other 8 year olds do it's not always possible to let her have them as she puts things in her mouth, breaks things and doesn't really look after anything. She wants a electric guitar but already has a acoustic one which she does not look after so I refuse to get her one. She has a iPad, a trampoline and a ton of lego.

I have pretty much bought her sisters presents and would like them to have roughly the same amount, dd1 is getting the new HUDL 2, a case for the hudl, a Pickachu hoody, a game for her 3ds, a tummy stuffer and some books ( and maybe a few smaller thing such as bath bombs and sweets ).

I need ideas for dd2?

The electronics kit gets lot of use here. Ours is the Cambridge brain box brand.

Scooter? The maxi micro are good for those with balance issues on 2 wheels.

Bits for her room maybe. My dad has some little fairy lights
Last year which she liked. They are delecate but we've put the up out of reach.

marne2 · 11/10/2014 20:39

She would love a microscope, I was looking at them a few weeks ago but was unsure which one would be any good.

iPod touch
Netball hoop
Sewing kit and mini sewing machine

This is between us and GPs

Taffeta · 11/10/2014 20:49

The Natural History museum mini microscope is excellent. £9.99 on Amazon

MrsPnut · 11/10/2014 20:54

Dd2 is getting a stunt scooter for Christmas but she is also getting minecraft Lego, some science kits and some extra craft stuff. She has a raspberry pi already which she spends time writing programs for and it has been a great hit (she got it for her 8th birthday)

happsymum · 11/10/2014 21:55

I've seen someone else mention a raspberry pi on another thread too. Can anyone tell me what it is/does? Blush

Galaxymum · 11/10/2014 23:37

My DD is also 8 and on the AS so looking for similar ideas. I am thinking of getting her some meccano. She is amazing with lego but has loads.

She loves her tablet, collects the little My Little Pony, likes lego, her trampoline and gardening and baking. Struggles with crafts. The microscope a

Galaxymum · 11/10/2014 23:39

Sorry that was my phone.

The microscope looks a great idea and also looking at the raspberry pi though now DH wants it on his list!

marne2 · 12/10/2014 09:03

Galaxy, have you tried Knex? Dd loves Knex ( we used to have tons of it ), the big wheel and roller coaster was popular. Dd loves following instructions to build things, she's quite good at lego but we know have tons of it Smile.

I have added the natural history microscope to my shopping basket! What on earth is a raspberry pi? Sounds yummy Wink

MrsPnut · 12/10/2014 09:36

raspberry pi It is an amazing piece of kit and you can make it do so much.

doingitlikeaboss · 12/10/2014 13:09

So far I've bought dd2 (9)

All of the disney princess zombie dolls,
5 ever after dolls large sets,
A pauls boutique watch,
A kardashian 'doll' necklace,
A large quality make up set,
A talking tom,
A good quality digital camera she can post on instagram and facebook instantly with,
A smart 3d tv (joint with dd1)
Ralph lauren polo's
juicy couture perfume box set,

she's got about £200/250 left in her budget for trainers and a couple of outfits

then sweets, pjs, housecoat, slippers, and stocking fillers like cds, lip glosses etc still to buy.

and the mountains of other stuff she'll get from family, she'll do not to bad, cut back thanks to a £400 school trip.

WalkingThePlank · 13/10/2014 21:44

Is doingitlikeaboss joking?

Methe · 13/10/2014 21:46

Hopefully!

marne2 · 13/10/2014 21:54

Shock and I thought I went OTT with buying presents.

Anyway, I have got her the moshi monster bean stalk ( although it's tat but it's one of the few things she has asked for ), Shopkins sets, crystal growing kit, light up pillow/cushion and I think I will get her the microscope, bath bomb making kit, some lunch bath bombs and a few other small bits.

A desk and, possibly, a hamster. DD is 9.7 at Christmas.

candybar · 13/10/2014 22:33

I have a 9 year old daughter, I'm finding it quite difficult to buy her any substantial gift.

She doesn't really ask for much which makes it tricky, I like the look of the Hot Wires set and think that could solve my problem.

So far I've got her Orbeez Mood lamp, calligraphy set, Monster High DVD, Awful Auntie book and Nerf Rebelle Heartbreaker Bow (the only thing on her list at the moment). She will also get a stocking and a selection box.

Last year her surprise from Santa was the V-Tech Secret Safe diary Visual, I got it on Amazon for £25, it was a huge hit and she has used it lots. certainly one of my better purchases, the tons of Moshi Monster stuff she got last year was mostly looked at and left.

Galaxymum · 13/10/2014 23:24

I think my DD might like knex. thanks for the suggestion Marne. I want to avoid the gimmick toys this year that just get left - like the furbies and Moshi Monsters. She is an avid collector of My Little Pony so I think I will find stocking fillers on eBay!

marne2 · 14/10/2014 08:19

Moshi monsters get played with a lot by dd ( she has been obsessed for years ) but sadly the play sets are not built well and fall apart, I'm sure the Shopkins sets will be just as bad Sad. I think I will buy her a few books as she likes science type books.

OP posts:
HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 14/10/2014 09:53

has dd read the dork diary books? DD and her friends seem to like those and I saw the book people had them on offer. also diary of a wimpy kid are popular as well.

I forgot about the nerf rebelle gun that I had got as well. I have brought the boys the normal nerf guns, and dd had been asking for the pink one (she really lets the mumsnet politically correct side down by being a girl and liking all things pink and sparkly)

I don't buy clothes for presents, we do new pj's/nightie for Christmas eve and a new dressing gown or onesie if they need one, they never wearslippers and as much as dd loves shoes, boots and clothes I think at 8 she'd be disappointed to open them on Christmas morning. plenty of years for that yet when they are teens and all they want is clothes and shoes.

girliefriend · 14/10/2014 10:06

I have now got dd (8yo) the arc playmobil set, a couple of sullvainain sets that were on offer, the microscope that was recommended on here and a metal detector from Amazon!! The last thing is the only thing she has begged asked for.

Other than those I think I will get her some lego, books and maybe a dvd or two.

I am keeping it quite simple this year as money is tight.

Doingit Shock

girliefriend · 14/10/2014 10:23

Ooo Amazon have just delivered the metal detector and microscope!! Dd will love them Smile The metal detector is this one www.amazon.co.uk/LIGHTWEIGHT-BEGINNERS-METAL-DETECTOR-WATERPROOF/dp/B00505BQRQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413278549&sr=8-1&keywords=beginners+metal+detector I think the microscope will be from Father Christmas.

Mrsg26 · 19/10/2014 22:17

Glad I found this thread as I am looking for advice what to get my DD7, she hasn't asked for anything really and already has a bike. iPad, scooter, TV. She has asked for a phone but absolutely no way. Will keep looking at This thread with interest.

SylvaniansKeepGettingHoovered · 01/11/2014 23:25

I'm struggling with what to get for 8yr old DD. I'm thinking of a sewing machine (John Lewis mini one) but am worried incase it's too frustrating (and getting the needle stuck in her finger).

My only other ideas are a DS game, a CD and some smellies.

lecherrs · 02/11/2014 01:59

Both DDs want iPad minis. We said we'd pay half if they save up the othe half, which they are now doing.

Other than that, DD is quite tricky. She doesn't play with many toys any more, but we will get her:

Fabrics for her Harumika sets
Latest now album
Stuff she needs for her hobbies
Board game
Jacqueline Wilson books
Trendy clothes (her request)
Hair accessories for doing interesting hair styles
