I had the perfect gift picked out for DH and was going to order it today but when I checked our joint email account he's already gone and bought it for himself with his wage bonus. Urgh. So now, I'm clueless as what to get him.

What are you getting your partners? Or are you as stumped as I am? Grin

NoisyOyster, I love the idea of the miniatures advent calendar! I may pinch that! Smile

Lovelydiscusfish · 07/10/2014 20:32

Multiplmamma, my dh is a book dealer, and I asked him about 1st edition Frankenstein. He said there is some argument about which is actually the 1st, comes down to text block size, whether it has a title page, etc (pm me if you want more details). He said a basic 1st in tatty condition might be £500, and for a decent one you might be looking at £3000 (or more). If I were you, and you feel confident to do it, I'd look at auction (sale room.com?). Retail prices you'll be paying top dollar - one of our friends bought one for his ex-w from a well known London book dealer for many, many £.
My dh is getting jumper, shoes, colourful socks, cashmere scarf, cookery book (Valentine Warner), DVD and paperback about the Cambridge Spies (he's obsessed), and some foody bits - jar of truffles etc.

0pheliaBalls · 07/10/2014 21:02

DH has wanted a certain type of guitar since he was a child. It's over £500 but I've found a place that does interest free credit and seeing as I'm finally earning (business finally taking off) I'm getting it for him. He won't know what's hit him come Christmas morning Grin

Last year I got him a Roman coin, some antique postcards with drawings by Victor Hugo from Les Miserables on them, a hyooge pile of books, 20 year old single malt and a crystal nosing glass to drink it from Smile

dannyboyle · 07/10/2014 21:04

Could someone explain google cardboard please? Sounds like something my husband might like! Thanks

bakingtins · 07/10/2014 22:41

titsalina what about a raspberry pi? Or there is now a Lego robot?

happsymum · 08/10/2014 00:32

0pheliaballs where did you get the antique postcards from if you remember? Bf obsessed with les Miserables!

SteveBrucesNose · 08/10/2014 06:26

He's getting spoilt, that's what he's getting Grin We had planned on going to Vegas for christmas but he wasn't allowed enough annual leave as the boss is going away too. Therefore, we've decided to spend the Vegas budget on presents instead. note to self cancel the hotel

He has a budget of 500 quid for some new bits for his camera, which is likely to be either a new lens or a new tripod, or a flight bag for all his kit. We'll be shopping on boxing day for this, as I get paid on 25th so that can come out of the following month's budget.

I've bought him a bangle with skulls on. He never wear jewellery but he thought he might like to start. Bet it never gets worn.

He also wants a swanky business card holder and some noise cancelling headphones. Will get them sorted after November pay day.

For his bar he has a bottle of Fiji rum coming all the way from Fiji when my mate gets back from his visit home next week, and some Slytherin cushions as he wants to turn it into the Slytherin common room need to save up for a green chesterfield for next christmas. Oh and a 'beers of the world' set with 6 random bottles in, and depending what offers are on at Manchester airport when I'm flying back here next month, I may get him another bottle of something random for behind the bar.

Oh and some socks. He always gets socks. Some evil hot gummi bears from firebox for in his stocking. And maybe some china teacups if I can find nice ones.

Titsalinabumsquash · 08/10/2014 07:27

I got him a raspberry Pi 2 years ago, it's still sitting on his desk in the box.
He's always so damn busy he's never got to use most things he's bought, same goes for the Makey Makey. Confused

MultipleMama · 08/10/2014 07:38

Lovelydiscusfish - Thanks for the information! I've a few on retail sites but there's 3 volumes classed as the 1st edition one which has me confused! That's for the auction site will check it out. He's has the ebook version and some of his other 1st editions aren't really readable so I don't think condition is that important.

I'm intrigued as to what this google thing is too. Never heard of it before!

PenguindreamsofDraco · 08/10/2014 09:48

There's a second edition here for the, um, bargain price of 30,000...

Titsalinabumsquash · 08/10/2014 09:55

Google cardboard is a pair of glasses that you make from cardboard and then you download an App no your phone and then your phone sits in hone glasses and it creates an almost virtual reality type thing.

here

peaz · 08/10/2014 10:06

No idea! He was really spoiled for his birthday (40 this year) and he's really hard to buy for. I'll get him small bits, a cd, a few beers, bottle of whisky, socks. He'd really like a Fred Perry polo and he never justifies the cost so I think I might splurge on that.

natdee · 08/10/2014 10:11

Every time I buy something for him my parents or sister steals it from me to give him instead....so I've been left with nothing Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

MultipleMama · 09/10/2014 13:28

Finally got DH his Christmas present. Well his main one anyway. It's a surprise and a early present but I know he and our eldest DS (6) will love it and bond more :)

So, I've booked him and DS a return flight to Boston, booked a hotel room, and bought them tickets to the International Book Fair on 15th Nov. So they can browse and buy all the old, rare books they can afford. DH will love it especially as Peter Harrington is going to be there too.

Still to get/make him little presents for Christmas eve/day but I'm pretty pleased with my impulsive present! :)

What a lovely present Smile

MultipleMama · 09/10/2014 13:45

DS adores books as much as myself and DH so I thought it would be perfect for them. Not sure when to surprise them though!

chocolaterainbow · 10/10/2014 14:34

Eek I've just bought DP a pair of tickets to see the black keys live in February! Much more than I was intending on spending but they're one of his fave bands I really like them too and the second ticket is for me I'm so excited I'll probably blab way before Christmas! Grin Probably next time he plays their music I'll explode with excitement!! He's also getting a Google cardboard thingy nerd and probably some sweets and sod all else 'cause I've already spent £100

Starfishiecloverhv · 11/10/2014 17:49

A Leicester Tigers Ruby Top
Box of Fruit Loops
An Airfix Plane set
Manga Art computer software

He's just like a teenager really lol

MultipleMama · 11/10/2014 18:30

starfish - Which one have you got? The studio ones are brilliant.

northernmummeh · 11/10/2014 18:31

DH keeps mentioning about home brew. Might get him a starter kit

GoldenKelpie · 13/10/2014 22:51

I am researching a romantic weekend break for DHs Christmas gift, it'll take place some time in spring. I am looking at tickets for a show/band for his birthday. We tend to buy each other 'experiences' rather than items.

evelynj · 13/10/2014 23:17

I bought dh a subscription to beer52.com last year & he loved it-beers from microbreweries around the world.

Roman treasure would really suit my dh - I've seen stuff on eBay but no idea what would make a good pressie....

SteveBrucesNose · 16/10/2014 12:38

For any beer drinking DHs I would also recommend beer52 - we got it for FIL and he has a monthly 'old farts' gathering with his two best mates arranged for the nearest Friday after delivery day to drink them!

AndHarry · 16/10/2014 14:55

FIFA 15 XBox game and a Christmad stocking of small things.

fanjolina · 20/10/2014 13:34

For those getting their DH's drones and cameras, will your partners be able to make videos like this ?

If so, I'm jealous!
