Where do you all hang the stockings?

We used to have an open bannister in our old house but here there's nothing/nowhere to display them Sad

There's a fire but no surround so can't use that.

(it's a new build so no features I could make use of).

Any ideas?

Windowcil? DD's was always hung on the radiator cover using a ornamental hanger in the old house. Then on Christmas eve she takes it to bed and puts it at the foot of her bed. This year we have a fire and surround so it will go there.

Smilesandpiles · 29/09/2014 21:14

Get some over the door hangers and hang them on the bedroom doors!

IAmAPaleontologist · 29/09/2014 21:20

Used to be a big believer in hanging off the bed post. Happy memories of waking with it at the end of the bed and then when I was older of giggling into my pillow with my sister and cousins as we listened to slightly pissed mum and aunts outside the door. But dd is scared of the fat red man so we now have to leave them by the fire or under the tree.

lucysmam · 29/09/2014 21:21

Ooh, I wonder if something like one of those over door hangers might work on the fire now you mention it. It has a 2cm ish gap at the top that something might fit through to hang them off.

Will have a hunt and see what I can find, thanks for the idea!

I meant to hang up with the rest of the decs - they go on the ends of beds on Christmas eve.

(there was only one post there when I typed my reply - went to make a cuppa half way through typing & didn't see other posts)

Ours were on the end of our bed. I always remember waking up and wriggling down the bed to see if I could feel them with my feet! CANT WAIT FOR LOs FIRST CHRISTMAS!

MrsBungle · 29/09/2014 21:25

Always at the end of the bed. My two love feeling with their feet to see if it's there!

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 29/09/2014 21:31

When I was a child, we'd hang it up on Christmas Eve (on the fireplace, because we had fireplaces in those days).
When my DC were little, we'd put them, empty, at the end of their beds, for them to find at 3:00am and then they'd start leaping around the house like mad things.
One day, I'm going to set my alarm clock to 3:00am, just when they've come in from the pub, a bit worse for wear. Then I'll start jumping up and down on their beds shrieking "Ooh - wake up - Father Christmas has been"

Seriously, though, I know the stockings have always been the most favourite part of my children's Christmas - by 3:30am, they've opened the stockings, shared the chocs and satsumas and played with all the silly toys (and they're now in their 20's) sigh

Fishstix · 29/09/2014 21:36

Ours hang them by the fireplace and FC leaves them on the bed once they are full. As others have said I used to love to wake up with the weight of it at the bottom of my bed! :)

crazykat · 29/09/2014 21:37

We don't hang them up. We leave ours with the cookies for Santa. DH and I fill them and hang them off the kids beds once they're asleep.

waithorse · 29/09/2014 21:39

I CAN NOT WAIT FOR CHRISTMAS. Grin

MrsBungle · 29/09/2014 21:41

ME NEITHER Grin

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 29/09/2014 21:54

I'M BLOODY DREADING IT BECAUSE I'VE RUN OUT OF STOCKING IDEAS, AFTER 20 YEARS OF IT
Grin Grin Grin

(Once I've got my brain in gear for new ideas, I'll be fine. Honestly I will. Yes, I'll be absolutely fine, really. Truly, I will . . . Aaarrghh)

lucysmam · 29/09/2014 21:58

Grin Evans, I imagine my oldest will still be up super early when she is older as well. At least the random bits keep them busy Grin

Hmmm, do you not have them out with the rest of the decorations then?

(I too am looking forward to Christmas...main present buying this week and next!)

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 29/09/2014 22:03

No - having them on the end of their beds buys us an extra 15 minutes of sleep.
It is quite funny, as although they are now young adults, they still come running into our room and jump on the bed, yelling "Look what we got in our stockings"
Erm - yes, I know - I flippin' well put them there. Confused

missingwordsround · 29/09/2014 22:06

I buy these sticky removeable hooks

TheFantasticMrsFox · 29/09/2014 22:08

Here they hang by the fire until Christmas Eve. However our fire will be lit all night so full stockings need hanging away from the heat, or the chocolate coins would get ruined :(
We will probably end up leaving them on the coffee table instead.

This year there will be 5 human stockings, 3 dog stockings and 1 cat stocking :o

lucysmam · 29/09/2014 22:10

haha, that's the best bit of the day with my two (4 and 7 yo) Grin

(I didn't mean put them out with the decs full btw... just the stockings on display)

lucysmam · 29/09/2014 22:13

missing, thank you! I looked at those for something ages ago and didn't buy them for some reason. Will check wilko for them in the morning.

We don't put ours out with the rest of the decorations, they come out on Christmas Eve and get put on the ends of beds, waiting to be filled, so they aren't hing anywhere. It has never occurred to me to get them out any earlier than that. It is a bit nerve-racking for the 5 mins or so when I have them out of the room for filling, but I haven't been caught yet.

wfrances · 30/09/2014 08:18

same as above
they dont come out till xmas eve ,then hung on the bed posts.

MrsLindor · 30/09/2014 08:28

DD has had bunk beds this year, her stocking usually goes on the end of her bed Christmas eve, no idea what we'll do with it this year, might have to stay downstairs.

It will make the process of filling it easier, won't need to commando crawl into her room anymore.

MrsLindor · 30/09/2014 08:30

DDs and DDogs are hung up as decorations when the tree goes up.

princesscupcakemummyb · 30/09/2014 18:57

at the end of the bed i will pre fill then leave it their before i go sleep

Smilesandpiles · 30/09/2014 19:41

Usuallly our get hung on the fire place but this year I've made a busy long garland to hang on the banister...this year, the stockings (which I've made) are going to be part of that. I'm going to attach them with cable ties while they are empty, cut them loose to fill them and put them on the kids beds and on mine.

Yes, I have a stocking too. Blush
