(Posting FellatioNelson's OP from previous years Thanks)
_

OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom. A bit like the war in Afghanistan, only with nicer food and sparkly shoes.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobsworth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapes and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessies' on the packet, this is not the thread for you.

Hello all! I dropped off this thread a while ago after a manic few weeks of moving house etc. I only managed to make some mincemeat (which I'm yet to use!) and Christmas cake, but I've officially done my first and probably only crafty ponce this year. I will try harder next year!

A stocking for my dd, and one for dp which will hold his presents from dd. He doesn't know he's getting a stocking so it's a surprise for Xmas day. I am pretty pleased with myself Smile

ethelb · 11/12/2014 22:04

Great sockings! Good size too.

MehsMum · 13/12/2014 09:07

DD and I made a wreath for the front door following the Mumsnet tutorial. It worked! We decorated it with a little clip-on robin and some jungle bells and are very pleased with ourselves.

ethelb no I mean this kind of thing www.partyblog.mygrafico.com/north-pole-breakfast-featuring-elf-on-the-shelf/ .

Put the Christmas tree up yesterday,DH and the 5DC have said it looks lovely(even though it did try to kill me)it took me 2 hours in the end and I nearly fell into it and knocked it down when I'd just finished dressing it.Instead threw myself the other way and managed to headbutt the wall! If any one was looking through the window when I was decorating the tree yesterday they would have had a good laugh! Grin

Hello! I lost you all.

Been a busy couple of weeks here. No poncing really but all decorations are up. We had a party on Friday night so I wanted it all done for that. Two trees - both fake unfortunately. Tree in living room has white, silver, gold and copper decorations on and I like it but DS moaned it had no red on. So tree in living area off kitchen is mainy red. Some friends accused me of having had my trees professionally decorated Shock Blush. A couple of friends said they had tree envy which as lovely. And then one friend claimed that my hall table full of Santas looks like a shelf in Home Sense. I wasn't impressed!

Kitchen feels a bit lacking so might make some paper chains to hang at the window.

I haven't written any xmas cards yet so am doing that today.

I love this thread; there will be loads of Christmas pinching by me this week, coupled with plenty of Xmas music. I will be making;

More chilli jam
Onion jam
Mince pies
Sausage rolls
Cheese straws
A gingerbread house
Painting a wooden train set in Christmas colours
Sewing a Lego ninjago serpentine with a Christmas jumper
Sewing a teddy bear
Knitting nordic themed teapot and mug cosies
And making some Christmas decs like this

FelixFelixNavidad · 14/12/2014 18:05

Buda your trees sound lovely.

Nic you're going to be busy Shock

Just made my first batch of mince pies with my mincemeat and was really disappointed. I expected it to be a lot boozier! Got loads left too Confused

ninetynineonehundred · 14/12/2014 19:23

Ooo just discovered this thread and want to boast because I've never ponced Christmas before and am feeling smug.

Strawberry bon bon vodka for dh stocking,
Toffee fudge vodka for, well, now actually,
Freezer is stuffed with homemade bits including flower shaped butter pats for lunch
Making hampers for friends including Christmas pudding vodka (can you see a trend here?), Christmas pudding truffles, three types of flavoured salt, various chocs including violet creams and lavender truffles and other bits.

And we made paper chains and snowflakes this afternoon.
Very excited

IssyStark · 19/12/2014 14:31

Right, second birthday out of the way and it's the last day of school today so we can finally get around to poncing properly! Tree is up but not yet decorated - we'll do that with the kids tonight.

Foodwise I made the custard for the Christmas pudding ice-cream this morning before work, will do the rest tonigh. Cake is to be marzipaned tonight as well.

IssyStark · 19/12/2014 20:31

Tree done! Now onto the ice-cream (must bag DH into making appropriately festive cocktail to sip while I work!)

How's the poncing going?

My nutcracker theme is going well. I made those Martha Stewart stockings and paper snowflake ballerinas. I've bought loads of nutcrackers and nutcracker crackers, chocolates and charms for the napkin rings.

I've also finally made a Brussel sprout and ivy wreath which looks fab.

I cut loads of fresh ivy to decorate the bannister and have a cloche with a deer tree and fake snow which looks fab.
