What are your 6 year old boys getting?

DS is 6 in March but looking for christmas ideas that will last a while.

He's asked for a Nintendo DS. I think I'm going to get him an older preowned one as I can't justify £100 on one he might not look after very well.

I need to find a few games for him for it and some filler bits. DD (4) is getting a camera and a gardening kit (if I can find a reasonably priced wheelbarrow) and I don't want it to seem that she got loads more than him.

Lego! Ds is obsessed. I'm intending to get each dc lots less this year as they find it all a bit overwhelming and our house is groaning as it is. I know a few sets of lego will go down well and last years.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 13/09/2014 09:27

Lego and a bodyboard. A penknife engraved with his name (we do whittling when we go camping and he wants it ready for cubs).

New pj's on Christmas Eve

TheNightIsDark · 13/09/2014 09:30

We have loads of lego. I might get him a few sets. Just ordered him the avengers figures for lego off Chinese eBay (aliexpress) for £4 for 8 figures.

Ds is 5.3 so a bit younger but in year 1. He has no interest in Lego and hasn't yet asked for any electronic devices.

He's having lots of boards games and books and some Star Wars command stuff - which is like those little plastic soldiers but in Star Wars theme. He's also having a bug barn because he likes bug hunting, a sand art thing and some stilts.

Going to try and reduce the amount he has this year, it's getting ridiculous.

VashtaNerada · 13/09/2014 11:10

DD is getting a marble run, magic tricks, some Roald Dahl books and a Lottie Doll (they're bringing out a boy one soon if he prefers to play with boys).

DefiniteMaybe · 13/09/2014 11:13

Watching with interest. My ds is 6 in November, I'm struggling for ideas for his birthday never mind Christmas.
I'm thinking of getting him a game ot two for his innotab that he had last year, some lego sets and maybe some books and dvds.
Dd is only 3 and having a new big toy kitchen and I don't want his present pile to look rubbish compared to hers but I suppose that's just what happens as they get older.

Biffabin · 13/09/2014 11:17

Ds will be 7 just before Christmas. This year he's getting a bmx. Last year he got a remote control car. My dc just get one present they really want (plus a stocking) rather than a pile of stuff

MerryMarigold · 13/09/2014 11:21

Watching too. My ds is 6 in October. He would love a DS but there's no way I'd get him off it. At least if it is on the TV I can control the time a bit more. He wants Star Wars Lego, but it all ends up in one huge tub anyway in a load of tiny pieces. Both my ds are very into Star Wars atm so it will be something Star Wars, like a light saber.

They also want an Xbox 360, but there is NO WAY...(unless perhaps it is their birthday presents and xmas presents put together for both of them).

TheNightIsDark · 13/09/2014 12:05

He loves lego Star Wars. He's never seen Star Wars but has become entranced with the idea of it.

Thank you for the ideas. He's mentioned lego and a monster high doll he's had his eye on!

K'nex big starter box for my ds. He loved the chunkier Kid K'nex and is quite into lego. He still also loves play doh and marble run (a present last year)

TheNightIsDark · 13/09/2014 12:13

Oooh knex! Will add it to the amazon list. He's asked for real tools as well which should be interesting.

New scooter

Badvoc123 · 13/09/2014 12:18

It's his b day next week and he is getting a new bike and scooter from all of us.
For Xmas he is getting lego - lots if it :)
Books
DVDs
How to train Your dragon toys
Minecraft annual

Badvoc123 · 13/09/2014 12:19

Oh! And a lightsaber! :)
Have also got him the lego Star Wars advent calendar his year too

Patilla · 13/09/2014 14:28

I think that DS really has enough toys and doesn't always appreciate what he had because there is so much.

So for his birthday he's getting a maxi micro scooter.

For Christmas there is a Lego set we found from a range that he loves and is being discontinued. He doesn't know about this as its always been out of our price range until we found it half price.

Other than that my aim is to focus on "consumable" presents that won't ultimately add to the toy pile. So things like science kits or craft
Stuff.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/09/2014 14:45

There' same few ideas on this thread.

For Star Wars fans, the Disney Store has a new range - dressing up stuff, figures etc.

This is what ds will have. He loves Star Wars. He loves small plastic soldiers. Has to be a winner.

MerryMarigold · 13/09/2014 15:02

Oh yes. Ds2 needs a scooter! Thanks for reminder, patilla. I agree with the too many toys. The ONLY toys they play with are Lego, drawing stuff, the wii and swords (briefly, before they are put away again because it all got out of hand!).

atticusclaw · 13/09/2014 15:08

If he wants real toys I can recommend red toolbox. We bought the workbench and tools for the DSs last year (they were 6 and 8). They've been a real hit and the great thing is that there are lots of different kits and so if grandparents want any ideas its easy.

The tools are real tool just child sized. Clearly to be used under proper supervision only.

BikeRunSki · 13/09/2014 15:19

Ds was 6 last week. He got loads of Lego (again!) and a reconditioned Hudl (half price).

Massive hit was Angry Birds board game and Star Wars dressing up.

MokunMokun · 13/09/2014 15:21

Mine also wants a DS.

NerfHerder · 13/09/2014 15:30

Mine wants a camera and Star Wars Lego (well...and the entire playmobil catalogue contents but I have put my foot down and said 'enough ' playmobil!)

Badvoc123 · 13/09/2014 15:41

Ds2 will be getting a camera from pils at Xmas :)
All out boys seem to like the same things :)

o0 · 13/09/2014 16:18

Mine wants a big Godzilla toy.

Now have to find one. And hope it doesn't cost the earth!

He also wants some bigfoot/yeti documentary DVDs.

And a giant tub of sweeties all to himself. Grin

billiejeanbob · 13/09/2014 16:23

ds will be 6 in December. he is getting the new marvel infinity game for his birthday and extra characters for Christmas. Also lego and ninja turtle monopoly Smile
