Erm...I have to entertain people too!?!?!?
We are having 9 people for dinner, I thought of going for a walk after lunch but only if it's not raining but not sure everyone will go anyway.

So then I thought about a quiz (with prizes) but that's been pooh-poohed too so what can we do? Board games?
The ages of everyone is 3, 8, 33, 45, 62, 63, 70, 75 and 79! They're all fun n game for anything but I'm struggling! X

Board games? (Monopoly maybe , but don't bother with things like "Sherlock Holmes Cluedo" unless you're a Real fan , it ain't worth the extra

We bought "Big Bang Theory" game last year.

You might find the 62+ will watch a film (and snooze if it's anything like my parents )

Get some films in case the rest of your guests don't want to watch Eastenders and Dr Who .

In our house the entertainment involves a dvd and a selection box! Surely you will all just be sat chatting? I would have suggested a quiz or similar. We did a family version of all star Mr and Mrs with couple friends on holiday once and thst was funny. Although you said a quiz was pooh poohed so I dunno!

We spend Xmas at my mum's with my sisters and their boyfriends, (I am the only one with DC)
After we eat we flop around the living room watching seasonal tv and snoozing. If we are feeling lively we watch Xmas TOTP and sing along.

Some sort of TOTP quiz? (Is there such a thing?)

But the Christmas Day flow: lunch, TOTP, Queen's Speech will be familiar to many. Quiz prizes should be Quality Street.

We play board games, watch tv, sing song round the piano or Karoake.
I have done a quiz before now.
One year when the wii was new the whole family played on this for ages, even the oldies

This year will be traditional with ils popping round for a while.
Then the usual sing song and games.
Then watching dd on Tv if I'm not too scared to look, had almost a year to wait and she is so different now.

Charades is a good game. You don't need to set anything up and everyone understands the rules, kids can play, etc.

Drinking games? Maybe with chocolate for the little ones... Or Film Bingo if you don't drink.
You can have a lot of fun watching a familiar film, with prizes at stake! We made up one for Lord Of The Rings... Every time you see a golden ring, take a drink! Or eat a chocolate... or both

Google has links to all sorts of games for all sorts of films - plus bonus, it is played inside, in the warm, in the comfy seats...

Who asked, a guest ? Outsource entertainment to them if they are that interested.

We did a version of pictionary last year, that worked well for a spread of ages, ours was 2yo to 80yo so similar!

Charades and Bingo always are hits in our house after Christmas lunch. Even the most reluctant join in and enjoy.

Charades, a chocolate coin hunt in the garden, old maid and cheat, jenga, we also open family presents after lunch to spread it out a bit.

If they are fun and game for anything, they'll go on the walk.

I've found that things that require gambling for 2p pieces works well though. Something simple like Shut the Box might work, it's easy enough for all ages and quick enough too. If you all chuck 2p in per round and keep doing so until someone actually shuts the box it gets quite competitive very quickly.

And this year I bought the Farkle dice set in The Works for £1.99 because I think people will like it.

For the last couple of years we've played a game that I read about on mn.
I buy a load of cheap small gifts. I usually trawl poundland etc. I buy some awful things that no one will want and a few better things.
Wrap them in cheap paper and put them in a sack/box. We take it in turns to roll a dice - if you roll a 6 you get to pick a present from the sack and unwrap it. If you roll a 1 you have to take a present from someone else. All age ranges love playing it here. You usually have something that everyone wants so it gets passed around endlessly.
The game ends when the last gift is picked and everyone keeps what they have at that time.

We do rock n roll bingo with a mix of songs from all different decades and age mixed teams.

You have song titles/artists instead of numbers on a bingo style sheet, and play snippets of songs that they cross off if they know what they are and have them in their sheet.

We've done it with TV theme songs before too.

we really like "Quelf" and also "Don't Panic" - check them out. Also, don't forget that not everyone will want to play games or have entertainment so there's no point in going to loads of trouble!

Articulate is a good game for a mix of different ages

Love the sound of that game snoozle, definitely going to play that this year.

Bingo - we have a set we picked up one Christmas with the proper pens to stamp your cards and the nicknames for all the numbers. That's a big hit here. Pictionary as well with a big group like that.

We all roll (literally as we're so stuffed) into the living room where we play board games, charades, watch a film on DVD and just talk for hours before watching a few christmas films on the evening.

5 yr old had labyrinth for Christmas last year and it went down really well with everyone from him to gp's. I even found some visiting late teenagers/early 20s carrying on playing it uber competitively after the younger ones had gone off to find other things to do

Having some nice Christmasy DVDs to stick on (- got several from the pound shop last year most of which were great, plus Arthur Christmas which went down well.

I second articulate... It's a brilliant game and from 2 - 90 in our house people can be involved in one way or another.

We also do a quiz or list games too.

Last year I chose a celebrity facemask for everyone, they had to guess who they were. We had my Grandad as Victor Meldrew, Nanna as the Queen, a couple of Big Bang Theory characters, the kids were pop stars. It was really fun and everyone got into it.

I'm going to try that game too Snozzle That sounds like a brilliant Xmas game!

Apples to Apples and Liars Dice are big hits in this house.

I'm planning that present/dice game too. We always play Teivial Pursuit. Might get Articulate for DS for Xmas. I'm struggling for ideas for him this year - he is 13.
