You do realise that you don't even need to be a 'mum' or even a member of MN to view this thread though GrownupGoth?

WisemansBridge · 18/06/2014 16:39

I'm confused too (but that's easily done) Grin. Who is stealing/advertising/linking bargains and how do you all know?! Confused

JaquelineHyde · 18/06/2014 16:40

I'm still confused Goth, so you will happily benefit from the deals found and shared by other people, but if you find an amazing deal advertised on another site of any kind (HDUK, facebook deals etc) then you won't share that deal with us.

I share deals I find on here with other people not on this thread (on another mn group I am on, on fb, and with family and friends), should I not be doing that?

I apologise if I am being stupid/ignorant but I am bloody confused. To me a deal is a deal, share it far and share it wide, the more people that benefit the better surely?

GrownupGoth · 18/06/2014 16:46

I think it's transparency for me... I have never shared anything I found on an alternative site. If I did I would state that.

Of course I realise other people can see, like I said it's the being disingenuous. I'm not even remotely naive.

Maybe I'll start my own website? Eventually some make money.

YaMasYaDaWithAWigOn · 18/06/2014 16:49

Do FB groups make money though? I agree with the sentiment of sharing bargains far and wide.

LottieAndTheDinosaur · 18/06/2014 16:52

I'm a tad confused too Confused I'm not sure I understand whats being said?

So someone can make money from posting on here and giving a link to their FB page? disclaimer for being a bit dense - I'm not on FB so not sure how it works Blush

daddykyller · 18/06/2014 16:56

Big Sale at Tesco clothing / F&F
including a lot of jewllery on sale at from £2 and £4, including some really cool necklaces and earrings

Tesco FF clothing Sale

ipswichwitch · 18/06/2014 16:58

What's going on? I'm confused, is somebody making money somewhere they shouldn't?

TheOneWithTheHair · 18/06/2014 17:08

I thought it was the other way round? Someone has seen deals on here and then posted on a fb page?

Confused

Either way, I love this thread!

MayhemMostDays · 18/06/2014 17:09

The 'more the merrier' sentiment is daft. There are only so many of each item, so can only be bought by a limited number of people.

I'm loyal to this thread because I also feel like sending Thanks to Reastie everyday and we all help each other out.

daddykyller · 18/06/2014 17:11

Just been catching up on the last few pages of convo. The page I saw the beer on isn't my own page. It's a page I look at for some good deals, and there are other facebook chat/bargain groups I find deals on and then post here too- if it's a really good deal then why not? I can't see any problems with that?

The shopping bags on the page Goth was talking about - I think I had posted them in last years christmas thread too. (I thin it was just me and a couple of others keeping the bargains idea going on past Christmas, into January and beyond- hence this new thread now) If the deal is still around and still a bargain, then obviously other people are going to find out about them at some point, and share them on their groups and pages elsewhere. similarly, people will see them on there and then come here to share the good deals too. (We all had to find out about things from somewhere, right? and it's not always direct from the shops own website, or in store).

I don't really like hot uk deals any more myself, because as soon as anything good goes on there all the ebay sellers snap up all the stock, and normal people like us ( maybe I shouldn't call myself normal? lol) can't get it. So forums like this, and some of the groups on facebook are a godsend. The more we keep them shared among ordinary folk - and away from ebay traders just after a quick buck- the better.

JaquelineHyde · 18/06/2014 17:13

I don't get that, but maybe it's just me.

A deal is a deal, regardless of where it is found, website, magazine, direct in store, word of mouth etc etc I don't understand the need to give credit to a particular site or person for each and every deal that is posted.

Sometimes it is relevant to the post and so I do give the details ie my sis in law works at Debenhams and sometimes gives pre warning about deals, or if a store emails direct with an offer etc but other than that I just don't see the point, people can ask if they want to know where a poster found the deal but I can't see how it matters.

I would hate for every single post to have to have some kind of disclaimer about where the deal was found and Ii really don't care if deals I post about are shared elsewhere, the more the merrier I say. Grin

Mama1980 · 18/06/2014 17:15

Just been in Tescos their clothing sale had loads in at the moment got some real bargains .
Also whsmith in store have loads of science museum sets reduced from £10 to £2.49. Things like build a solar powered cart etc. my 6 year old loves the sets.

MayhemMostDays · 18/06/2014 17:15

I don't know if you can make money from fb pages .. or what other advantages (perks) there might be.

But why link to a bargain page you had just started, pretending it wasn't your page?

Seems dodgy to me.

JaquelineHyde · 18/06/2014 17:16

Lots of crossed posts there...Must learn to type quicker Grin

MayhemMostDays · 18/06/2014 17:18

Just because you don't understand it doesn't make any less a valid point.

JaquelineHyde · 18/06/2014 17:19

Mayhem how do you know that Daddykyller* owns that page and only started it a few days ago? Also can you explain why it would matter if he did?

Again I am sorry if I am being think but I don't get what could be dodgy about it Confused

daddykyller · 18/06/2014 17:26

Mayhem wants me to say where I found something, then not say if it happens to be a site I own myself? I don't know if I can handle knowing whether or not to say where I found something, just incase someone thinks it might be a page I made or a group I started lol.

Is there any point either way? People will just do what they feel is right for them. Others can then chose to read into that what they will. they can decide whether to follow that link or not. Or google the thing and find it themselves.

I mostly don't bother saying where it came from, but like JaquelineHyde if it seems relevant then I have said. A couple of the things I saw on the page in question had some things from on here from way back on it - like the finger lights. There were also things I haven't seen at all on here, but didn't think it was worth sharing.

Uptheairymountain · 18/06/2014 17:28

Frozen dolls are back in stock online @ Disney Store if anyone wants one.

daddykyller · 18/06/2014 17:29

Do we all need to list every facebook group we are members of, and every page we maybe have hit the like button on?

...just in case?

but in case of what?

I think most people would say if it's a good deal then put it on. If someone else has found something then I'd like to see it too, regardless of whatever other info they decide to share. Then, like I said above I can either decide to ignore it, click on the deal, click on where they found it to see what else is there, or google it myself. ...or a combination of all of that. It's up to each person.

JaquelineHyde · 18/06/2014 17:29

Mayhem all points raised are probably incredibly valid to everyone who understands them, but I don't which is why I have asked for some clarification because I am confused as to why this is such a problem.

Store releases deal -
customer buys deal and tells friend -
they tell another friend -
who tells work colleagues -
they tell friends -
friends post on webpages -
mner spots deal and posts here -
we all buy the deal (or not) -
some of us pass the deal on to other places -
and on and on and on -
deal ends.

Should we all be crediting every person in that chain and/or signing a vow of silence/secrecy abut what we read here and not passing a single deal on even to family members (last year I bought 5 mamas and papas racking reindeers for various family members which may have stopped a fellow mner getting the deal should I not have done that)

I am confused and probably being very thick, so please spell it out to me and I will be happy to apologise for my ignorance.

GrownupGoth · 18/06/2014 17:31

www.facebook.com/bargainsall?fref=ts

This page is here summarised.

GrownupGoth · 18/06/2014 17:33

No crediting... It might be too much, but acknowledgement perhaps.

Not that I'm overly invested, I'll just name change and stop posting.

daddykyller · 18/06/2014 17:36

So are we all supposed to go there and link everything that hasn't been on here and post it here too?

To even up the score or something?

Does anyone even care?

Maybe they got a few things from here.
And maybe we got a few things from there- I put at least one thing from there onto here. And from other fb groups I find something nice on- it might end up here too. The fact that is an open page that you don't need to join then get approval, before seeing the posts, tells me something anyway. There are a million bargains groups on fb, and a LOT of them are hidden if you haven't joined. How many more would you think look a lot more like this thread even?

I'd bet there's be quite a lot.

And that's because everyone is finding the same bargains then sharing them around. It's not rocket science.

GrownupGoth · 18/06/2014 17:38

Fair enough.
