Stockings in bedrooms or downstairs

DH and I had them in the bedroom when we were kids, and DCs have always had them in their bedroom. But as they are getting a bit older, they dont sleep so well on Xmas Eve and its stressful trying to creep in in the middle of the night.

Is it easier ( may be even better/more sensible) to put stockings downstairs by the fire?

We started putting them outside the bedroom door as DDs got older.

FortyMerryFuckers · 21/12/2013 23:23

We hang ours on the banister outside DS's bedroom

AnyFuckerWillDo · 21/12/2013 23:24

Always grew up with them by fireplace but my DC will be having then at the bottom of the bed. It's part of the magic x

Noggie · 21/12/2013 23:36

Downstairs! Think trying to creep in an not waken them would cause me blood pressure problems!!!

Wolfiefan · 21/12/2013 23:38

DS decided early on that a strange man creeping around his room in the dead of night was not on! Stockings on landing.

Geckos48 · 21/12/2013 23:38

On the doorstep of course!

Iwaswatchingthat · 21/12/2013 23:39

Hanging on the bedroom door. We have four stockings (no idea how we got so many). Two of each design. I had hoped they would choose different ones, but no they have chosen the same one. So my pre fill and switch plan has been thwarted.

You could still do this though.

IneedAsockamnesty · 22/12/2013 00:02

End of beds, and they always contain a DVD because I'm not fond of being woken up at 4am

TikkaTurkey · 22/12/2013 00:06

Stockings go in the fireplace downstairs.
Santa sacks go at the end of beds although that DEFINITELY doesn't do my blood pressure any good as I'm always terrified I'll wake them when I blunder in! Smile

OvO · 22/12/2013 00:10

Bedroom. They have a Christmas tree in there and the stockings go under it. I have never felt stress like it last year trying to sneak into their rooms and my eldest kept shifting in his sleep.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 22/12/2013 00:14

On the end of beds, it's how we did it when i was a child. I quite like the adrenaline rush of getting them out of the DCs rooms, into ours, packed and returned without anyone waking. 100% successful so far with DCs aged 9 and 7. Although i have learned never to buy anything that rattles, squeaks or has a bell in it!

I didn't know what to expect before I opened this, thought it might have been about spicing up your sex life Wink

sosadforhim · 22/12/2013 00:17

lol at peggyundercrackers

cupcake78 · 22/12/2013 00:18

Downstairs for us otherwise we'd be up at 2am and not be able to quickly shovel dc back to bed with a ' get back to bed quick incase he hasn't been yet'

OrnamentalAsAnything · 22/12/2013 00:18

Hung in the living room by fire, but placed at foot of bed when full. I used to absolutely love slinking down to the bottom of the bed and feeling the weight of a stocking on my feet.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 22/12/2013 08:14

Yes, that's why we do them on the bed, that feeling of a full stocking by your feet. One year DS decided to hang his on the door handle instead, so I put it back there, but in the morning he'd forgotten and I woke up to hear him crying because he thought Santa had been to his sister and missed him out (they share a room). It was heartbreaking!

TinselinaBumSquash · 22/12/2013 08:18

Ours are hanging on the banister and that is where they'll stay.

prettypleasewithsugarontop · 22/12/2013 08:23

Ours go downstairs :)

JingleJoo · 22/12/2013 08:42

I'm torn what to do. I've got a nasty feeling that 7yo DD won't go to sleep until past midnight (she has already declared that she isn't going to sleep!), and recently 'dry at night' 4yo DS has a bladder the size of a pea, so is bound to get up in the early hours for the toilet and spot the stocking.

We had them in our rooms as kids but think we are going to start DD with a fireplace stocking. This is her first year (nearly 3) of understanding it all.

pigsinmud · 22/12/2013 10:22

At the end of the bed.

trikken · 22/12/2013 10:28

When I was little we had them at the end of the bed. Now it is on the door handle as the kids don't have that type of bed and its easier to swap the empty stockings for the full ones.

AntiJamDidi · 22/12/2013 10:33

Dd2 (3) has declared that her stocking absolutely MUST be outside her bedroom. She does NOT want Santa to come into her bedroom, she would prefer him to stay downstairs and not come anywhere near her bedroom but if he really wants to put her stocking somewhere she can get to it easily then he can put it just outside her bedroom door. NO WAY is he allowed into the bedroom though, he's too scary for that.

Doshusallie · 22/12/2013 19:19

If mine had them in their rooms they would be tearing into them at 2am. They go by the fireplace downstairs.

bigTillyMintspie · 22/12/2013 19:21

Mine are now teens and we are going to have them downstairs this year as we are going to go to midnight mass rather than on Christmas Day and I cannot stay awake till they have gone to sleep after that!

DD would never have hers in her room as a little one as she was scared of Father Christmas coming into her room!
