Board game for me and dh

Hi

Can anyone recommend a board game for two adults? We have loads of kids and family games but I'm after one that me and dh can play. Good if it has the option of additional players too but must be suitable for two people. Dh is always complaining that we watch tv too much so it can go on his present list not mine!

Chess? Backgammon. Othello - I am not sure about that one. Is something like trivial pursuit boring with two?

I'd second carcassone. We have just got tsuro which seems good so far. Both are good with just two or with more players.

I was told Village but we got it and I think it will get a bit repetitive with 2 people. Might have to think up some extra rules Grin

Am getting him Pandemic for Christmas, so we'll see how that goes down.

Carcasonne is great fun and easy to pick up. We also have Small World which everyone (apart from DH) enjoys. DS is getting Settlers of Catan this year.

Tell me about Ticket to Ride - I've looked at it, but I can't see the appeal - why so you enjoy it?

On a slightly different tack we all enjoy playing Blokus. It's a colour strategy game and with 2 people you just use 2 colours each. Playing with children is great, but playing with adults is ruthless!

What about a good book of card games? It's hard to find goo dones for two players but Cribbage is OK but you'd need to buy a cribbage board. And this summer the children found a good card game .. they leanrt so many new ones I get in a muddle but I think it was called Dudak?

Ticket to Ride is totally addictive.

Simple idea. There's a map of somewhere with destinations marked on it. You draw tickets and have to complete a route from (say) Paris to Moscow via other places of your choosing in between. Each town to town route is a different colour. You draw coloured cards from a deck or the table and collect enough to complete a stage and them mark it with little train trucks. There are wild cards as well.

Each version is slightly different. When it's just the two of us we usually play the Nordic version.

Thanks ChristmasTat DDs birthday is in January so I might get it then - I've just always looked at all those little trains and imagined someone getting up nd knocking the board abd them all getting knocked out of line.... the idea of the ensuing uproar has put me off!

How about Rummikub? Like card rummy but with tiles, some of which are duplicates to make it trickier

I like the sound of Ticket to Ride, DH is a rail enthusiast and we like games. Knowing him I think he'd appreciate the "Europe" edition most, but it seems to be out of stock on Amazon. Do fans know if this is likely to be a temporary thing, or has the game gone out of print? Any other UK stockists have it?

If we can't get it, I might look at the Nordic one as it seems appropriately seasonal. Xmas Smile
